Alan: Hi, I'm Dr. Alan Weidner from 'Massage-Chair-Relief.com' and today is our biweekly massage chair industry update, and today is Wednesday, January 2nd, 2019. Happy New Year to you all, and I hope you had a wonderful holiday season. We had a good one, we had my oldest daughter and her family came in, drove in from San Jose, and we had family in from San Diego, and we just had a wonderful holiday here in Salt Lake City, even though it's been mighty cold, and I'll tell you, my California visitors sure look forward to going back home to California. But anyway, I hope you have a good New Year, and had some good memories from the holidays.
[SCREEN TEXT: Some Holiday Sales are Over; Some are Still Going!]
Alan: Alright, so most of the sales for the holiday season are over, and that includes the Infinity extended warranty offer, the Osaki price drop on some of their chairs, and the extended warranty offer, they are over and done with.

Alan: Tomorrow, the Ogawa sales, and which includes the Fujimedic Kumo, which is a chair that is – and I believe I mentioned this in the last update, they introduced the Fujimedic Kumo as a chair – they say made in Japan, a Japanese-made chair. The parts are exported from the East Pau factory in China, and that is the factory where the Ogawa and Cozzia chairs are made, and apparently, the Fujimedic Kumo has the, the Fujimedic brand is assembled and tested in Japan, and then shipped out from there. But the parts are the same parts, and essentially the same chair, but with the Japanese expertise behind it, as the Cozzia Qi SE, Q-I SE, and that chair is on sale. It's regularly $8999, and for the holiday, it's on sale for $6499, a great price on that chair, and it comes with a three-year parts-and-labor warranty, which the Ogawa and Cozzia chairs do not come with, but this, because of the Japanese input, and the Japanese testing, and whatnot, I guess they're increasing that warranty to three years. So, but that sale ends tomorrow, the 3rd. The sales that are still going on include the Luraco iRobotics 7 Plus having $500 off, that goes until the 29th, and then the Positive Posture Brio that comes with a free Positive Posture Sol chair, and that's S-O-L, that sale ends on 1/31, so January 31st. That’s a good sale, that bonus chair, and it's a $2000 – the Brio is $4999 – but the Sol that comes along free with it, is $1999. We've had quite a few people take us up on that offer, or take them up on that offer. And then also, we still have the Health Mate HM-5200 on sale for $500 off, and I believe that that is it in terms of the current sales.
[SCREEN TEXT: Inada DreamWave Back-Ordered in All Colors Except Black Until Late January 2019]
Alan: Now, I should also mention that, and I think I've mentioned this to you before, but the Inada DreamWave, what they are now calling the Inada DreamWave Classic is, they have been back-ordered for quite some time on that, and had some issues that are out of their control in Japan, but they have black in stock, and that color only. But apparently, in the later part of this month, the latter part of this month, they're going to have a new shipment in, with limited supply of other colors, but there will be other colors available. Now, I should also mention that – well, I'm going to talk about something else regarding Furniture for Life, which – Furniture for Life is the parent company over Inada USA, Panasonic, Positive Posture, and Varier, which is another, it's a non-massage chair line of office chairs, and whatnot.

Alan: But I want to talk a little bit about that later when I talk about CES, but we do have our pre-owned massage chair listings. And I know that people are always looking for good pricing, and good deals, and if you want a really good price on a chair, go to our pre-owned directory. And you can go to that on our website, and if you look across the navigation bar, across the top, there is a section called 'Current Deals,' and that’s dropdown menu, from new chair specials to the pre-owned directory. And in the pre-owned directory, we right now have – and this is a good time to get pre-owned chairs, because we sell most of – November and December are our busiest months of the year, and we have a certain rate of return. And so, if I have 10 chairs sold, then I, and I have 1 out of 10 that’s returned, well then, if I have 30 chairs sold, I'm going to have 3 out of 30 returned, if that is the rate of return. So, if we have, you know, 50, or 60, or 70 chairs sold, then we're going to have than many more returns, and those returns, unless someone else has already spoken for them before we post them on the website, will be posted on our pre-owned directory on our website, so take a look at it. Right now, we have the Ogawa Touch 3D, which is usually $3999, we have one on sale for $2499. We have an Ekon, the Ekon is a chair that was on sale for $5999 through the holidays, we have our floor model, a brown floor model, available for $4999. The Osaki Maestro, we have a brown one, it's a dark brown, like an espresso brown, we have that one on sale for $5499, and that chair is regularly $8999, like the Ekon is. But it has, this one was a return from a local customer in Southern California, and so, you get $5499, and even when we have it on sale it's $6499, so it's still a significant discount. And we have a Human Touch Novo XT2 in black, now, this chair, we had a return from a customer, because she didn’t want the chair and she thought something was wrong with it and didn’t want to get it fixed. Well, we brought it back to California, to our California showroom, and we went through it, and we called Human Touch to have them diagnose what the problem was, and they just said, just 'We'll give you a new, open-box chair.' So, we have a brand-new black Novo XT2, in perfect condition, that we swapped out for it. And this one's in the box, packed up, ready to go, for only $5999, and that chair usually sells for $7999, and that is one of our top-selling L-tracks. It's not a heavily discounted chair, but $5999 is a great price.

Alan: Now, another thing I thought I should mention to you is, and this is mostly just me kind of, I'm kind of bragging when I do this, and I don’t really like to do much of this, even though when I talk about my business, I do tend to brag a bit because I think we have a phenomenal business, but as you may or may not know, we donate a certain percentage of every chair to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and I've been doing this for a few years. As a matter of fact, I think I started it when I first started my website, and we donate a portion of every sale to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and you can go to, on my, anywhere on my website, on pretty much any page, you'll see a link to my donation page, and of course, you're free to donate any time you'd like. If you do, whether you buy a chair from us or not, but if you do buy a chair, a portion of your sale will go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Well, last month, we reached the $50,000 donation level, and they had, and I put this on my blog, but Mark Simonson from Make-A-Wish in Phoenix, their main office is in Phoenix, he flew out to Salt Lake City, and he brought me this beautiful award, and I hope you can see it, but it's in commemoration of a $50,000 donation, and this is a nice, this is not a plastic, I mean, this is a nice, heavy glass award. I'll be putting it in the showroom, in my Utah showroom, so people can see it. But I am very, very proud of this, because the Make-A-Wish Foundation is quite meaningful to me. I have a daughter who has type 1 diabetes, and that has been a thing in our family that has been a concern for our family for years, and I just might mention that this daughter is now 35 – no, no, no, just a minute, oh my gosh, and this is on record, this is on a public video, she was born in '86, so she is 32 – anyway, she could only have one child for the longest time, and Ivy, our granddaughter Ivy, and they were told that they couldn’t have any more children because of her diabetes, and some PCOS, and some other thyroid problems that she has as a result of diabetes. Diabetes is really a crippling long-term disease, it's not something that you ever get cured from, but and we've seen her suffer with some things, but she changed her diet significantly, and changed a number of things in her life to try to give her body the best chance of healing, and of perhaps getting pregnant again, and her husband wanted to have another child, and you know, and Ivy is 6 years old, she'll be 7 soon, and she found out last, or earlier, or I guess last year now, 2018, that she's expecting. And we are just so thrilled about that, but of course, we're worried about the health of the child, and the health of the mother, diabetics, type 1 diabetics that have children, it takes a real toll, pregnancy takes a real toll on their bodies, and of course, it goes without saying that I'm very concerned about my daughter, always. I always have been, and always will be. But anyway, we're excited that we're going to have, or she's going to have another baby in April. So, anyway, Make-A-Wish, even though my daughter's grown up now, and she's not a child anymore, we have dealt with this for a number of years, and I have a real soft spot in my heart for children, and having a number of grandchildren, it's just something that means an awful lot to me. So, I'm thankful to the Make-A-Wish Foundation for being so thoughtful to give us this award, and we will continue to save. I think we're up to $52,000 as of the end of the year, and so I'm just very thankful for those of you that have donated, those of you that have purchased from us and allowed us to donate from your sale, of your chair. But anyway, I just wanted to mention that, and then finally, I wanted to mention, oh, oh, a couple of things I forgot to mention about the DreamWave, and I'm going to mention it now.

[SCREEN TEXT: My Visit to CES on January 8 - 9, 2019]
Alan: Anyway, what I was going to tell you was, I'm going to this Consumer Electronics Show next week, Tuesday and Wednesday, and that is like the biggest electronics show probably in the world, and it's in Las Vegas, and I've gone the last few years, and I record, I usually record when I visit with the vendors, you know, our vendors, or people that we, our suppliers, and I will go there again this year, and see what's cooking. And there is some exciting stuff cooking. Infinity has a new model coming out called the Overture, which we're quite excited about, and we're going to get that in our showroom when it's available, but it's supposed to be available by the – oh, sorry, that will not be at CES, that will be at the Furniture Market later in the month – but in January, that Infinity Overture will be coming out. And but at CES, the Furniture for Life people that I talked about earlier, they have some wonderful things up their sleeves, and it has to do with the DreamWave name, and I was privy to a lot of it when I went to visit them a month and a half ago, but I wasn’t allowed to say anything about it. But this week, they're going to be revealing a new model, and anyway, I'm excited about that. And let's see, what else is cooking at CES that I've heard of? I'm not sure what else I've heard. I think Inada Japan is going to have a booth there, and they're going to be introducing a new model. I don't know if we're going to be getting it, or what the status is with that model, but we will hopefully know more about that when we go next week, but I will record everything, of course, and videotape it. And I will be also going to a cocktail event, that Tuesday night, put on by Luraco, and I will be meeting, that’s for all of their retailers in attendance at CES, they are welcome to this cocktail party, and I'm excited to go. And I remember when I was invited, they said, 'Well, we hope you don’t mind, Dr. Weidner, but a lot of your competitors will be there,' and I sure don’t mind. I enjoy making friends in the industry, and some of my competitors, I've already met, and have some association with already, and they're always very, very good experiences. Some of our competitors I haven’t met, and but I know of a lot of them, and some of them I've never met and never heard of them, but I'm looking forward to go, and kind of rub shoulders with other people in the industry, even if they are competitors, because it's always fun to talk business, talk shop. And when you're an island on to yourself as I am, I don’t really have a lot of people that I communicate with regularly about the massage chair industry, there's a few people I trust in the business, that I call if I need insight or input, or I need to find out what the heck's going on, but there's not many that I really trust in the industry to tell me things. So, I'm kind of excited to go, and like I say, rub shoulders with my peers. Anyway, and I will give out, put that report, once I do that, I'll put that report, or that video up on my YouTube channel, and you can see what's cooking at CES. But I think that’s about it for this week. The hubbub of that holiday season is over. As far as the massage chair sales go, it was a crazy season, it's crazy season, and it's busy. And I can't go anywhere without my phone, and I took my family, last Friday night, tubing in the snow, and I had my phone with me, of course, because I carry it with me everywhere, it's like my leash. And I found myself with my winter gloves, pulling a tube behind me up a tube lift, a ski lift thing, on the verge of answering a phone, when my wife said 'Don't you dare answer the phone now,' as we're going up to run down the hill in this tube. But needless to say, it is a busy time of the year, so I carry my phone with me everywhere I go, but anyway, enough of that.
