Inada Dreamwave Too Gentle? I Don’t Think So… And Here’s Why!

Inada Dreamwave

Inada Dreamwave

I recently had a customer call me up asking me for my opinion on the Inada Dreamwave and it’s ability to give a vigorous roller massage. He had tried it out at a local store and felt that it was too light or gently. You know, I hear this a lot and have even bought into it, to some degree. But, I had an experience today that got me straightened out on the matter rather promptly.

This customer wanted me to compare the roller massage intensity of the Osaki OS-3D Pro Dreamer to that of the Inada Dreamwave (by the way, starting tomorrow, Inada is changing the name of the Inada Sogno Dreamwave to just the Inada Dreamwave…too many folks struggled with the word Sogno and it’s pronunciation!). Since I have both chairs in my showroom, I offered to call him this morning and give him a “play-by-play” description of what I felt while on both chairs with their most vigorous automatic programs deployed.ย

I have always felt that the Chinese-made chairs were more vigorous than their Japanese-made counterparts. The Panasonic MA70 is pretty aggressive, but the overall experience has borne out that the Chinese chairs have a more intense default roller massage. This is particularly true of the Inada Dreamwave, as it’s default roller massage is more gentle than most any Chinese-made chair. Well, today I did the test, comparing the Dreamwave to the Dreamer from Osaki.

Here is what I did:

1. I removed the headpiece and attached back pad from the Dreamwave (I just lifted them over the top of the chair back so that they would not be in play at all during my session)

2. I reclined the chair to a near full recline.

3. I selected the “Morning” program, which is typically a more vigorous massage program.

4. After the body scan was complete, I increased the forward position of the 3D rollers so that they were protruding as far forward as they could go.

5. I then went to the Osaki OS-3D Pro Dreamer and reclined the chair to a full recline and also put the chair in the zero gravity position to ensure the greatest weight and gravitational pull on the my back.

6. I selected the “Wake Up” program, which, again, is a more vigorous massage program.

7. After the body scan and shoulder detection was complete, I increased the 3D rollers to their maximum forward position (there are 3 roller intensity positions in the auto programs and 5 positions in the manual settings).

Here is what I discovered:

1. The Inada Dreamwave roller intensity was far greater than that of the Chinese-made OS-3D Pro ย Dreamer in the mid back, upper back, and neck. I actually felt that it was too much during certain moments when the rollers hit the top of my thoracic spine and base of my neck because of the intensity.

2. The Dreamwave was strong in the low back region and sacral region (tailbone area), but there was additional padding in those areas that made the low back intensity feel less than that of the mid & upper back and neck regions.

3. The Osaki OS-3D Pro Dreamer was more intense and vigorous in the low back region. Although the rollers did reach the sacral area, they did not go quite as low as the rollers of the Inada Dreamwave. But, for the low back area that both chairs covered, the Dreamer had the upper hand as far as roller intensity goes.

All-in-all, I was quite amazed (and apparently had forgotten) how intense the Dreamwave rollers could be…particularly in the mid back, upper back and neck. And, although the Osaki Pro Dreamer won out in the low back roller intensity department, I was still quite pleasantly surprised by it’s ย intensity.

So, for those doubters out there who feel that the Inada Dreamwave is not intense enough, follow my protocol above and see what I experienced and tell me if you still think the same way about it. I think that lots of people try out the Dreamwave in local stores where the sales people are not well versed in the functionality of the Dreamwave (or any massage chair for that matter!) and therefore can’t provide this insight for the massage chair shopper. I hope this assists you in your search.

The great thing about the Dreamwave is that for folks who also want a gentle roller massage, this chair provides that by default. And, for those who want to get beat up a little (or a lot!) more, this chair has the flexibility to provide that as well.
