“Made in Japan” is a term you’ll often hear when shopping for massage chairs—but it doesn’t always mean the same thing.
There are several chairs that are marketed as “made in Japan,” but that designation can vary depending on the company.
In some cases, chairs are built in China, then exported to Japan, where they are assembled, tested, and programmed in a Japanese factory.
Other companies manufacture a portion—or even a significant portion—of their components in Japan, while sourcing additional parts from around the world due to the global economy. These parts may come from countries such as Malaysia, China, Taiwan, or Singapore.
The reality is that there is no such thing as a 100% Japanese-made massage chair. The same is true for Chinese-made or American-made chairs—virtually all of them rely on globally sourced components.
Some of the models we carry—or are at least familiar with—that are considered Japanese-made include the Fujiiryoki 5D AI chair, which is primarily built in Japan. The D.Core 2, D.Core Stratus, and other D.Core models are also considered Japanese-made.
The JP Medics Kumo is another example. It is labeled “made in Japan,” but like the JPMedics Kumo, the JPMedics M8, the Cozzia chairs, and the JP Medics Nexus (sold under Osaki), these models are built in China and then exported to Japan for final assembly, testing, and programming.
Panasonic is another well-known Japanese company. Their chairs are designed and engineered in Japan, but they are manufactured in China.
So, as you can see, the term “made in Japan” can mean different things depending on the brand. However, many of these chairs still benefit from Japanese influence—whether in design, engineering, assembly, testing, or programming.
