Manual settings let you choose point, zone, or whole-body selection. When you first turn the chair on, it defaults to whole-body mode and travels up and down your entire back.
If you select point, you can move the rollers to a specific spot and have them work only on that location. I especially need this for my suboccipitals—the muscles that connect the base of your skull to your spine. These muscles are often responsible for stress headaches and cervicogenic headaches. A large portion of the population experiences these types of headaches. Even some people who believe they have migraines are actually dealing with migrainous pain caused by tension in the head and the back of the neck.
You can also select zone, which typically covers about a 6-inch range. Different companies may use slightly different names, but in general:
- Point = one specific spot
- Zone = a short section (around 6 inches)
- Whole body = the entire back
Personally, I usually go straight to the neck and run a focused point massage on those suboccipital muscles.
