Massage Chair Industry Update – October 2, 2018 (Video)

Transcript of Video Titled “Massage Chair Industry Update – October 2, 2018”

Alan: Hi, I’m Dr. Alan Weidner from ‘Massage-Chair-Relief.com’ and today is our biweekly massage chair industry update for Tuesday, October 2nd, 2018.

Alan: We’re now in to the fourth quarter of the year, and this is typically the time when things start to get a little busy. Most of the new models have come out by now. There may be one or two that’ll still come out before Black Friday in November, but one thing I want you to be aware is that in the fourth quarter, as we get closer to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and the holidays, the greater the chance of stock not being available.

[SCREEN TEXT: Make Sure to Order Early Enough to Get Chairs for the Holiday Season!]

Alan: I mean, all the massage chair companies, for the most part, stock up pretty good for Christmas, but sometimes – well, not sometimes – every year, there’s some model or some color that goes out of stock, and it’s hard to get it before Christmas time, or during the holiday season. I got an email from Rachel at Osaki, and she gives some really good advice here, she says this: ‘I am not sure if you are aware of this, but the transportation industry, as a whole, is forecasting a 60% shortage in the number of trucks needed to move freight within standard time ranges in the fourth quarter of the year.’ So, OK, in the past, we could usually tell you a rough estimate of when a chair would arrive once you’ve ordered it. Now, it might get a little tougher with the shortage of these trucks, the alleged shortage of trucks, and the holidays coming, and of course, online ordering gets busier and busier, more and more things are being purchased that require shipment, like massage chairs, or larger items. It could be a crazy year as far as the number of chairs being sold, and if there is a shortage of trucks, well, this will impact, definitely impact the availability of chairs. Maybe not the availability of chairs, but the ability to get the chairs to you before the holidays. So, Osaki has mentioned that December 10th will be the last to place orders for delivery by Christmas. December 3rd will be the latest day for the white-glove delivery to arrive by Christmas, and these are – and most of the massage chair companies will give you definitive dates, and we will give you more of them as we get closer to Black Friday, and closer to the holidays – but those are general guidelines for definitive deliveries by before Christmas, for example. Some, if you’re local to the place where the chair is made, or imported to, like if you live in Texas, and you’re ordering a Luraco chair, or if you’re ordering an Osaki or Titan chair, and you live in Texas, you can still get the, a good chance you can still get the chair before Christmas if you order it later than those dates. If you live in Southern California, and you order an Inada chair, or a Human Touch chair, or a uKnead chair, or a Cozzia, or Ogawa chair, the chances of you getting them after dates like that are pretty good, but if you are ordering a chair from Southern California and you live in Maine, well, it’s going to take some time for that chair to get there, and the thicker we get in to the holiday season, the thicker the traffic and the use of these trucks to do the shipping, and maybe the greater the chance of you not getting your chair by such-and-such a date. So, anyway, the long and short of it is, I’m going a little bit off, a little long on this, but just prepare well in advance. If you’re thinking of getting a massage chair for the holidays, order well ahead. You don’t have to wait until the last week, or two weeks, or to the deadline, whatever deadline each company offers, I would just order as soon as you can, and have it shipped to like a neighbor’s house, or have it shipped to your garage, and hide it. It’s kind of hard to hide a massage chair, they’re big, honking things, and most of them come in two or three boxes. But you might want to start coming up with a strategy to make sure that you get a chair, plus the closer you get to the holidays, the less good stock availability, and so you’ll want to – and you know, if you order early, like October, or the beginning of November, before Black Friday – the chances of you getting your chair will be greater, much greater, than if you wait until after those dates.

[SCREEN TEXT: Luraco iRobotics 7 PLUS Features]

Alan: OK, I mentioned to you that, last time, and you may know this already, but Luraco, on September 1st, upgraded their iRobotics 7 to the iRobotics 7 Plus, and the Plus, you can read the differences in my blog, but the Plus includes a – the remote control is essentially – the interface is the same, but it has a pause button. It has some separate compression-intensity adjustments for the calves, separate low back roller intensity, it has better speakers, and a Bluetooth connection. Those are essentially the main differences, and the chair’s gone up $500 to justify those changes.

[SCREEN TEXT: Upgrade Your iRobotics 7 to the PLUS – Upgrade Kits Now Available]

Alan: Now, there is an upgrade package now that is available, and you can purchase, if you have an iRobotics 7, and you want to upgrade to the new iRobotics 7 PLUS, they can send you a new motherboard, a new remote control, and I believe they can also include – well, let me see here, it’s got – it includes the improved remote control, the added massage functions, and the cost on that would be $350, and $50 for shipping. It says here that this package does not enable the i7 to have the Bluetooth compatibility feature. That’s only available to the i7 PLUS owners, and if you don’t care that much about Bluetooth compatibility, or playing music over your chair, that’s probably not a big deal, but they do have an upgrade package now, and you can upgrade for $350 plus $50 for shipping, so $400 for that feature, or for those additional features. And they do have some videos to show you, or a video, for sure, that’ll show you how to upgrade the motherboard. I’ve actually done that on one of the i7s, and if I can do it, anybody can do it. It’s a relatively easy process.

[SCREEN TEXT: Pre-Owned Upgraded Luraco iRobotics 7 (Black) Now Available for $6990. Call 801-651-2026 if Interested]

Alan: Now, so, oh, and by the way, I have a returned Luraco iRobotics 7 that someone bought before the upgrade. We have upgraded it to have the new motherboard, and the new remote control, and all the new massage features, and we will have that chair up on our website shortly, but if want to get a good deal on a chair, I think we’re selling it for, I think, $6990, and the new ones are $8990, and this chair is not even a month old. So, if you’re interested in it before I put it up on the website, give me a call, you can reach me at 801-651-2026, that’s 801-651-2026, and we can get you that. I believe it’s a black one. Yeah, as a matter of fact, I know it’s a black, it’s a black iRobotics 7 with the upgraded package to the i7 PLUS functionality.

[SCREEN TEXT: Cozzia Qi – Things to Know]

Alan: Now, Cozzia, the Cozzia Qi is the top-of-the-line Cozzia model, and it’s a nice chair. It’s a sophisticated chair, its sophistication lies in its scanning ability and its diagnostic ability as a massage chair, and it is a pretty cool chair. Well, you can operate it through hand keys that are on – you know, what we call quick keys – but the full functionality is available through an iPad, and they send you a voucher for the iPad when you receive, when you get the chair, but the thing is is that voucher will only cover the iPad, it does not cover sales tax. So, I can’t remember what the price is, maybe $399, $400, and if you go to the Apple Store with your voucher, you’ll get the, you’ll – or where ever it is that you go for the iPad – you can get the iPad, but there’ll be a sales tax charge on to it for you locally, and you will have to pay that out of pocket, whatever that percentage is for your state. Also, a customer inquired about the memory function of the Cozzia Qi because the Ogawa Smart 3D, which is made by the same factory – and Ogawa and Cozzia are basically owned by the same company – the Ogawa Smart 3D has a memory function, and a customer purchased the Cozzia Qi with the understanding that the Cozzia Qi has a memory function as well, and it does not have a true memory function, like the Smart 3D. It also does not have a USB port like the Smart 3D. So, it is a more sophisticated chair than the Ogawa Smart 3D, but the memory function and the USB port that the Smart 3D has is not on the Cozzia Qi, and I think that is about it.

[SCREEN TEXT: Free Lifetime Labor Warranty & Free Returns for Massage Chair Relief Customers]

Alan: I want to reiterate to our customers that, or for people that are considering purchasing a massage chair, we at Massage Chair Relief offer a free Lifetime Labor warranty on any of the chairs that we sell. After the factory warranty is expired, or any extended warranty that you’ve purchased, we will provide a Lifetime Labor warranty for you. So, you get the part, we take care of the labor. Now, there are some conditions as far as distance going, and the travel surcharge, but you can read all about that on our website, and you can access, you can get to that pretty easily from any page on our website, and also, we offer free returns. So, if you get the chair and you don’t like it, you pack it up, keep the box, keep the box. You pack it up, and then we’ll pick it up and pay for the return shipping. You’re responsible for getting it ready, but we will take care of the return shipping. That’s free, and you will not be back-billed for the original shipping to you, like this is a true free return policy. Anyway, so if you have any questions about that, of course, you can give us a call any time.

[SCREEN TEXT: Brand Name vs. No-Name Massage Chairs]

Alan: One last thing I just wanted to mention is, as far as warranty goes, speaking of warranty, you know, sometimes, OK, there, I talk about name-brand chairs and no-name brand chairs. No-name brand chairs, in my mind, don’t mean chairs that you haven’t heard of the brand before, some people have heard it – but we kind of categorize no-name chairs in to – there’s some certain criteria that we use to help us define whether a chair is a, you know, what we would consider a no-name chair, or a chair that has a little bit higher risk for you, than a brand-name chair. And one of the things that we caution people is to make sure they understand the warranty of the chair they’re buying. So, sometimes when you go on Amazon, or eBay, or some website that has a chair that looks like a fantastic price, or even some chairs that are outrageously priced, make sure you go to their website and see the fine print, or even any print regarding their warranty. I know of one massage chair company that doesn’t even post a return warranty, or a return, or sorry, not a return policy, but a warranty, on their website. So, make sure that you understand what the warranty is. Do you know if it’s an in-home warranty? Do you know if parts and labor are included, or is it just parts? Do you know how long it is? Is it one year, is it one week, is it one month, is it 10 years, 5 years, 3 years, 2 years? It’s important that you understand what the warranty is before you buy the chair, because once you purchase the chair, and you’ve gone over the return period, and again, the return period is another thing you’ve got to watch out for. Some return periods are only 7 days, some are 90 days, some are anywhere in between that, but make sure you understand the return policy as well, because when the return policy is expired, and something goes wrong with your chair, and you call the company to find out what it’s going to take to fix it, now you’re going to find out that either you have to ship the chair back to have it fixed, or you’ve got to, the coverage is only 30 days, and now the coverage is gone, and you’re stuck, or you have to pay outrageous amounts for parts, and outrageous amounts for labor. So, just really make sure you do your homework. The price, have you ever heard that saying that, it’s something like the taste, or how does it go, the no, you know, it’s something about, the taste that poor service leaves in your mouth stays much longer than the taste of a good deal. So, getting a good deal on a massage chair online, or from where ever, and you have not done the homework to find out if A) they have a good return policy, or B) if they have a good warranty, let alone a warranty at all, that, it behooves you to do a little homework on that, and find out about it. Don’t get suckered in just by the sticker price, or whatever the sale is. Make sure that you have got support if something goes wrong with the chair, or if you want to return the chair, very, very, very, very, very important, and we have seen a lot of people burdened by that, by not following that advice, and getting chairs that have neither a good return policy, nor a good warranty, if any at all. So, anyway, a little word for the wise. I don’t mean to preach. I’m starting to do this almost every two weeks now, because I keep hearing of experiences that people have where they feel completely ripped off, or they feel like they didn’t understand, or didn’t know, when they bought the chair, what the deal was. Just make sure that you understand it, and if you buy a chair from us, make sure that we tell you what the return policy is, and make sure that you know what the warranty is, and you can ask us. A good retailer will be able to tell you what those things are.
