Alan: Hi, I’m Dr. Alan Weidner from ‘Massage-Chair-Relief.com‘ and today is our biweekly massage chair industry update for Tuesday, July 21st, 2020. Thanks for visiting today, a few things we need to go over.
[SCREEN TEXT: JPMedics Kumo Sale Over]
Alan: The JPMedics Kumo sale is over, that chair is typically, or regularly priced at $8999. It was on sale for $6999, and that sale ended a couple of weeks ago, or on the 6th, I think.
[SCREEN TEXT: Health Mate HM-5200 Price Increase]
Alan: The Health Mate HM-5200 chair price has gone up from $6495 to $7450. That is a 3D L-track with calf rollers and foot rollers. It’s considered to be made in Korea, as with the Japanese chairs that claim to be made in Japan, their components are typically made in China, but the programming, and the testing, and the assembly is done in Japan, same thing with the Korean-made chairs’ components are primarily made in China, exported to Korea for assembly, programming, and testing. So, anyway, that chair is up in price to $7450.
[SCREEN TEXT: Visiting Health Mate’s New Showroom]
Alan: I will be heading to Southern California on the 29th to visit my store, and make sure everything’s, you know, OK there. I haven’t been there in months since the pandemic hit, but I will be visiting Health Mate’s new showroom, which is in, I believe in Buena Park, fairly close to where our store’s at. So, I’ll hope to visit there and maybe I’ll have the camera with me and be able to take some footage of their new showroom.
[SCREEN TEXT: Covid-19 and White-Glove Delivery]
Alan: Speaking of the pandemic and Covid-19, white – OK, so, as most of you are aware, the Covid cases are spiking again, and there’s kind of a second wave, and of course, we’ve heard about this before, and it’s actually happening now – and because of that, the white-glove service is challenged. Now, as you know, curbside delivery is what most chairs will have. Well, free curbside delivery will come with pretty much every massage chair out there for sale. White-glove delivery is where they bring it in your home and set it up for you, and of course, as you can imagine, there is some hesitancy by companies, and by customers to have people come in to their home, or to go in to homes to set up chairs. So, white-glove delivery has been really compromised lately. So, for example, I just received an email from our contact at Human Touch saying that plan on four to six weeks for white-glove delivery. I had a customer in Iowa, Iowa of all places, you know, where it’s not known as a hot spot, we couldn’t even get chairs delivered within a month-and-a-half, so we had to make other arrangements with that customer. So, just know that if you want white glove delivery, most companies have some issues with the white-glove delivery in some zip codes. So, if you want to be sure if you can get white-glove delivery, contact us and we can do a little homework for you, based on the chair that you want, to see if that distributor has agents that are still doing white-glove delivery on time, or if you’re going to have to wait, but just plan on delays. As a matter of fact, Daiwa, which is the new chair company that we are carrying, for whom we are carrying their chairs, they are announcing no white-glove delivery, and they have nine locations around the country, kind of warehouses, or points of service, and they are not performing white-glove delivery out of any of those nine regions. So, it is truly something that’s hitting us hard now. Before, the concern was that it was going to slow down production in China, which it did, but now the production of the chairs is normal, but it’s our ability to disseminate the chairs, and get them to where they got to go, that’s where we’re having trouble, so anyway, just be prepared for that.
[SCREEN TEXT: Daiwa Pegasus 2 in our Utah Showroom]
Alan: Also, speaking of Daiwa, now we’re just still getting familiar with their chairs. We have the Pegasus 2 in our showroom in Utah, and it’s a nice chair. There was a little glitch with it at first, and we got that straightened away, and now I’ve been able to sit in this chair, and I really rather like it. It’s got calf rollers, it has side, arm, the side panels where the armrests and the shoulder airbags are, they move mechanically in and out, kind of like hinged at the front, the back part, where the shoulders are, go in and out. So, you can adjust the width of the chair for people. So, if you’ve got a really thin person, a very slight body shape, you can bring it in, and if you’ve got someone that’s broad shouldered, or a little larger girth, you can bring it out another six inches, so and it’s all done electronically. It has voice command so you can tell the chair what to do. It’s not like Alexa or Google-enabled, it’s just a built-in voice-response system, built in to the chair. It also has a memory program, which is unusual for a chair that’s made in the Rotai factory. I’ve not seen that before, but it has a couple of memory programs, so very interesting.
[SCREEN TEXT: Extended Warranty Options for Daiwa Chairs Must Be Purchased Directly from Daiwa]
Alan: But if want to get the extended warranty when you purchase that chair, they do not sell the extended warranty through their retailers, you have to buy that separately, through them directly, and we hope to have a link on our website, on each product page for the Daiwa chairs, so that you know that if you want to get an extended warranty, and I believe they have some options, like one year, two year, three year, four year extra warranty. You can get that, but you have to buy it from them.
[SCREEN TEXT: Unsubscribing from My Emails]
Alan: We have a, you know, some people sign up for my free report, my free report ’11 Things You Need to Know Before You Invest in a Massage Chair,’ and it’s a good report, it’s good information on there, but some people don’t want to have any follow-up emails. And you know, I send out my newsletter every week with updates in the industry, and current sales, and whatever’s going on. It’s maybe a little like this massage chair industry update, but in print, and in the form of, you know, a one or two-page newsletter. Well, some people don’t want that anymore, and I just want you to know, there’s an unsubscribe link at the bottom of every one of my emails, every one of my automated emails. So, if you ever want to sign up for my free report, and you get tired of my emails, you can go ahead and unsubscribe, there’s a link at the bottom of every email that’s sent out. So, we don’t want to be pests to you, we just want to be sources of information in that decision-making process. OK, so I guess that’s about it, you know, things are, the actual pace of sales are pretty good. Our stores, the Arizona store is very quiet, there’s not, there’s a big spike in Covid in Arizona, that may have something to do with it, but our California store is pretty steady, Utah store is kind of quieted down a little bit because of the spike. So, it’s definitely affecting business in the brick-and-mortar end of things, but online it seems like people are still looking for chairs quite a bit, and looking to supplement their previous therapy that they received at the hands of a licensed massage therapist, or a chiropractor. So, more people are looking for chairs to take care of them, and take care of their health to some degree, from home, during the pandemic. So, a massage chair is something that maybe you know, is good to be thinking about at this time of our world, and at this time of our country’s history.

Alan: So, anyway, we’re all, I’m still here, of course, we’re still here, and we still answer phones. You can call us at 888-259-5380, we’d be happy to answer any questions for you, and help you in your research process, your due diligence, and trying to decide what chair is right for you, and of course, use the website. The website has the five steps to selecting the right massage chair, and these are good resources there for you to use to help you figure out, you know, kind of sift through all the chairs that are out there, and know which one, or ones, might be the best options for you to look at. So, anyway, so that’s it for our massage chair industry update.
