Here’s a quick tip that can dramatically improve your massage chair experience.
When you sit in a massage chair for the first time—or anytime the chair performs a body scan—make sure you keep your head resting back against the headrest.
Why is this important?
During the body scan, the chair uses its rollers and sensors to determine the shape of your spine and locate the height of your shoulders. If you lean forward while talking to a salesperson, speaking with a family member, or looking down at the remote control, the chair may get an inaccurate reading.
Without proper contact from your head and shoulders, the chair may incorrectly assume that the top of your shoulders is the base of your neck. As a result, the rollers may not reach the correct areas of your back, leading to a less effective massage.
Most body scans take between 30 and 60 seconds to complete. During that time, simply sit back, relax, and keep your head against the chair. Once the scan is finished, the chair will typically indicate that the process is complete, and you can move freely.
If you ever feel like your massage chair isn’t delivering a proper massage or seems to be missing certain areas of your back, an inaccurate body scan is often the cause—and the most common reason is not keeping your head back during the scan.
This is a simple tip, but it can make a big difference in both the quality of your massage and your overall experience, whether you’re testing a chair in a showroom or using one at home.
