Every massage chair has motors, and those motors power the chair’s various mechanical functions.
Some massage chairs use a single motor to operate multiple systems, while others may have two, three, or even a dozen separate motors. I’ve seen chairs with as many as 12 motors.
A common question I get is: Is it better to have fewer motors or more motors?
The answer depends on how you look at it.
If a chair has only one motor and that motor fails, the entire chair may stop functioning. Since that one motor is responsible for multiple operations, a single failure can put the chair completely out of service until it’s repaired.
On the other hand, chairs with multiple motors distribute different functions across separate components. If one motor fails, other features of the chair may continue to work normally. In that sense, having multiple motors can provide a degree of redundancy.
Of course, there’s another side to the argument. Some people believe that more motors mean more components that could potentially fail. And technically, that’s true.
However, with fewer motors, each motor is responsible for more functions, so a single failure can have a much greater impact on the chair’s overall operation.
Ultimately, there isn’t a universal right or wrong answer. Both designs have advantages and disadvantages. For most consumers, it’s probably not something worth losing sleep over, but if motor count is important to you, understanding these trade-offs can help you make a more informed decision.
