Massage Chair Selection Variables: Size, Airbag, Heating, Recline

In part one of this multi-part blog series, we went over some basics on which factors to prioritize when choosing a massage chair. There are a huge range of options out there for your massage chair needs, and which you choose will depend on a few different variables.

At Massage Chair Relief, we’re proud to offer a wide variety of massage chair products and brands, including industry leaders like OHCO massage chairs and several others. What are some of the other important chair features and variables to be thinking about as you make your selection? Here are several.

Chair Size

Another of the initial areas you should be looking at closely is the size of the chair itself, and the dimensions of the features that make up your ideal massage chair. The reason for this is twofold.

First, finding a massage chair whose individual parts will fit in their designated places in your home or office space can be a tricky task. On top of that, since you’ll likely be using and enjoying your massage chair often, you’ll want a product that is pleasant aesthetically as well as effective to use.

In addition, if you have any specific height or weight capacity requirements, you should be sure that the chair you select is up to the task.

Airbag Considerations

Within your massage chair, airbags offer relief from tension and stiffness by supporting specific parts of your body, helping to release knots and trigger points in your muscles. Massage chairs have many different types of airbags among them, so it’s important to know which is the best choice for you.

For example, most massage chairs offer traditional airbags, which simply inflate when massaging occurs. Others may offer an airbag system that “bounces” or applies pressure and then releases, similar to the way a real massage therapist would work.

Heating Capabilities

Many of today’s massage chairs come with heating capabilities, which can be a great way to relax your muscles before or after your massage. The type of heating mechanism will vary chair-to-chair; some use infrared heating, while others use more traditional methods like a warming pad.

Which you choose will often depend on the purposes you desire heating for. If you’re looking to help limit arthritis or joint pain, infrared heating may be the best option for you. If you’re looking to simply relax and de-stress after a long day, then a more traditional warming method might be preferable.

Recline Function

All high-end massage chairs will have at least some amount of recline function. However, the amount of reclining will vary chair-to-chair. Some chairs allow you to lie completely flat, while others simply tilt into a more upright position.

If you know you’ll be using your massage chair to help with deep sleep or better breathing at night, be sure to choose one that is able to recline completely flat.
