Real-world massage is effective treatment for low back pain, study shows

Many people suffer from low back pain. Different options have been provided to patients, but one that seems to be quite effective is massage. Unfortunately, massage is not covered by insurance, so it can be costly. However, the results are encouraging. It seems to work well with the baby-boomer set. It does work initially with obese patients, but that benefit seems to decline over time. Those taking opioids for their pain don’t seem to experience benefits. It’s a valid option that more and more doctors are embracing. It also has the added benefit of not requiring the consumption of the addictive painkillers that so many people have to take for chronic pain.

Key Takeaways:

  • Research indicates real-world massage is an effective treatment modality for lower back pain.
  • The School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences has instituted the first study of its kind, specifically having to do with real-world massage efficacy for lower back pain.
  • This study gives credence to practitioners advocating real-world massage as an effective solution for patients.
