Lower back pain is a common reason that people miss work and have job related disability. The back is vulnerable to pain because it supports most of the body’s weight. Smoking, being physically inactive, and constantly lifting heavy things increase the chances of someone having back pain. Back pain is even associated with the chance of someone dying according to a 2017 study which claimed that those who were 70 and older with back pain had a 13% higher chance to die compared to those who did not have back pain. Back pain is often treated with a pain reliever, but it can also be effective to use a placebo according to studies.
