Back pain is experienced by many sooner or later but the generally accepted treatments are ineffective. The subject of the article, Cathryn Jakobson Ramin, experienced severe back pain which lead to her journey through the back pain industry. She wrote a book describing her experiences with surgeons, chiropractors, and others. Her advice is to stay away from surgery and manipulation and especially painkillers. Painkillers can bring a whole new set of issues, including inducing pain that is generated by the brain, detached from the original injury. The pros and cons of ergonomic chairs and standing desks are described. Ramin's conclusion is exercise and a new mindset about back pain are required. The body needs movement and proper alignment to be healthy and when there is pain, we need to keep moving and understand that having pain doesn't necessarily mean the body is being harmed. If we stop moving, the pain will only get worse!
