[SCREEN TEXT: Using the Rollers]
Alan: Hi, I’m Dr. Alan Weidner from ‘Massage-Chair-Relief.com’ with another in our series of short videos to discuss the functions and features of the Inada Sogno Dreamwave Plus massage chair, our favorite massage chair at this point, and one of the top-selling chairs in our company and in the world. Today we are going to talk about the rollers, and the rollers, there’s a number of different functions that the rollers can have, and a number of different features that accompany the rollers. And we’re going to have Stephanie Wistos, my commercial sales manager and a licensed massage therapist, discuss the effects of the rollers, how they work and the different features that work with the rollers. So Steph, we’ll turn the time over to you.
Stephanie Wistos: Hi, I’m Stephanie with ‘Massage-Chair-Relief.com’. Dr. Weidner mentioned that I’m going to go over the different roller techniques of the chair. In massage, there are a few basic modalities that are going to be, rolling, kneading, percussion, compression, and then usually a combination of the two.

Stephanie: Inada, on the Inada Sogno Dreamwave Plus, you can find, if you open up the remote down here, that you can specifically pick which modality you want it to do. They have a little bit of a different name for some of them, some of the modalities, but they’re the same thing. So, what it is doing, what I’ve done is I’ve gone ahead and flipped the pad that was on the front of the chair just over the back, so that you can see the rollers a little bit more in detail here. I’ll still be, kind of, manipulating the back here a little bit just so that you can have a better view of it. What this is on right now, this is called ‘Rolling’, and what the ‘Rolling’ technique is really good for is, you can see it’s really quite close together, it’s to warm up the muscles next to the spine, and just get the blood circulating a little bit more in there. If you go to a massage therapist, they will do similar strokes, just to warm the muscles up before they get in too deep. If you were to go too deep, too quick, you could actually injure the muscle.

Stephanie: So you can see it does this nice, rolling, it does actually have the ability to do partial rolling, which it will only, you can pick to have it just do a certain segment at a time, but right now we have it on ‘Full Rolling’. The nice thing about this Inada Sogno Plus chair is the fact that it has a very long track, as you can see, the rollers come all the way down here. When you’re sitting in this chair that goes all the way down in to your sacral area, and works those muscles for low back pain, and hip pain, things like that. So, this is ‘Rolling’. I’m going to take it in to a ‘Kneading’, and you can see the ‘Kneading’ is more of a traveling modality, it’s actually going to be going in and out, in and out, in and out, and it’s again meant to just relax the muscles, get the circulation increased.

Stephanie: You can probably see a little bit better when it comes up here in the black, see how it’s going in and out, in and out, so this one travels along the width of some of your larger back muscle groups. I’m going to do it, put it on ‘Human Hands’, and this just does a little bit differently. Now, I forgot to mention while it’s on ‘Kneading’, you can do forward ‘Kneading’ and you can do reverse ‘Kneading’; it’s just a matter of pushing the button once or twice, to put it in to forward ‘Kneading’ or reverse ‘Kneading’; it’s just a matter of, you know, how it feels, basically the same goal is achieved. It does also have a ‘Double Kneading’, which we’ll do that now. [pause] It’s a little bit hard to see, but basically, it’s just doing more of a grander stroke, it’s doing a …
[SCREEN TEXT: ‘www.massage-chair-relief.com’ 1-888-259-5380]
Stephanie: … see here, it’s going to go out a little bit wider and make a little bit larger strokes as it goes down your back versus just the first ‘Knead’. Now, you can also do the ‘Double Kneading’ in reverse, so ‘Kneading’, ‘Double Kneading’, you can do forwards or reverse. The ‘Shiatsu’ is another one, typically, as you can see here, the ‘Shiatsu’ is meant to get a little bit deeper in to the musculature, it’s going to do shorter, quicker strokes. It’s really nice if little knots or anything like that, it just helps to really loosen up those muscles. It does a little bit of what’s called ‘Cross-Fiber Friction’ on the musculature, which then also encourages those muscles to release. If your muscles have been in a holding pattern for a long time, sometimes it takes a little bit of prompting to get them to relax.
[SCREEN TEXT: ‘www.massage-chair-relief.com’ 1-888-259-5380]
Stephanie: Now, the next one that we’re going to do is called ‘Tapping’, you can see it’s a little bit more vigorous here. This is like the karate-chop movement that you would get from a massage therapist. [pause] Percussion is another thing, another name for it, but as you can see as it travels up and down, it just is going to stay a little bit closer to the spine, and do a little bit faster than the ‘Shiatsu’. The last one that we’re going to do is called ‘Knead and Tap’. This one’s going to be probably one of the more aggressive modalities, because it’s not only doing, you know, a movement and traveling, but it’s also doing the percussion as well on your back. So, it does feel very good and relaxing, as you can see, it goes a little bit farther out and then comes back in, but all the while, it is doing the tapping motion on your back.
[SCREEN TEXT: ‘www.massage-chair-relief.com’ 1-888-259-5380]
Stephanie: That really helps to get in deeper in to the musculature, and the deeper you get, the healthier your muscles will be, so that is a big deal. A lot of times our problems are deep rooted in the muscles, the trigger points, the knots, and things like that, so using your chair every day is going to help you considerably to loosen up those muscles and keep them nice and loose. Now, really quick, another thing I was going to mention, you can do the ‘Rolling’, on full or partial as I mentioned before, but also on some of these modalities, you can adjust the width of the rollers.
As you noticed before when we showed it, they were quite close together, basically right next to where the spine will be; however, if you want it to work a little bit farther away on the ‘Tapping’ and on the ‘Shiatsu’, things like that, you will be able to adjust the width. You can also adjust the speed, so if you feel like, you know, the modality is a little intense in the beginning, slow it down a little bit …
[SCREEN TEXT: ‘www.massage-chair-relief.com’ 1-888-259-5380]
Stephanie: … maybe make it a little farther away from the spine, but you can really customize this to get it to work the muscles exactly where you feel you need them worked, where they’re the tightest. So, again, those are the roller functions of the Inada Sogno Dreamwave Plus massage chair, and something that is very unique to this chair that’s actually a patented feature to Inada, is the fact that they do what’s called ‘3-D Roller Technology’. Basically, what that means is that it’s not only going up and down a track, but it’s pushing in and out, as you’ve been able to watch while I show you here on this chair. That’s very unique, because it feels a lot more realistic to a regular massage therapist, to human hands working on your back, and it’s able to get a lot deeper in to your musculature. You can actually increase that intensity or decrease that intensity here on the remote, of that ‘3-D Roller Technology’.
[SCREEN TEXT: ‘www.massage-chair-relief.com’ 1-888-259-5380]
Stephanie: So what you would do, if you wanted it stronger, you would hold down the ‘+’ button, and you can actually hear it adjusting here, but you can also see how much stronger it’s pushing out along the track, and it does get pretty strong. There’s a lot of people that have sat on this chair, who may think in the beginning that it’s not intense enough, but I encourage you to get on here, increase by pushing the ‘+’ button on the ‘Back 3-D’ roller, and even keeping this pad flipped over the back and recline it down and you will get a very strong massage. It’s still very relaxing and definitely therapeutic, but it can be as aggressive as you want it to be or it can be as gentle as you want it to be. The other thing you would do if you wanted to decrease it, is you would push and hold the ‘–’ button.
[SCREEN TEXT: ‘www.massage-chair-relief.com’ 1-888-259-5380]
Stephanie: And you can see on the rollers that it has significantly gone down again, the intensity. You can also adjust the roller height. I mentioned before, in the ‘Rolling’ under here, you can do ‘Full’ or ‘Partial’; however, you can use this ‘Roller’ button here to specifically put it on the body area that you want it to be. So if you put it on ‘Partial Rolling’, and you wanted it to work just the neck and shoulder area, you could do that, but then, you know, after 5 minutes if you wanted it to go down a little bit lower, a little bit lower, you would use this ‘Roller Positioning’ button here to do that. And that is the rolling function and the ‘3-D Roller Technology’ of the Inada Sogno Dreamwave Plus. Thanks.
