DreamWave 2_FM_3090Alan: Hi, I’m Dr. Alan Weidner from ‘Massage-Chair-Relief.com’ and today I’m going to demonstrate the trapezius massage, the trapezius muscle massage, on the Inada Sogno Dreamwave massage chair. Now, there are very few chairs that actually massage the traps. The traps are these muscles on the top of the shoulders. There are very few chairs – as a matter of fact, there’s only two that I’m going to talk about, or that we’re going to talk about in this video series – that talk about trap massage, and that do trap massage. One is the Inada Sogno, and what the Inada Sogno does, is it uses airbags to push down on the top of the traps. The other chair is the Panasonic MA70, which uses rollers to kind of hit the back of the traps before it moves on up to the neck. So, what I’m going to do is I’m going to turn on the shoulder, or the airbag massage, on the Sogno, so that we’ll be able to see how this feature works.

Alan: Now, trapezius muscles are typically very, very tight in people, especially those who sit at a desk, or use their arms a lot, like maybe drywallers, or painters, or electricians, or either desk workers or dentists, that are always, you know, working in mouths, and shrugging their shoulders to get in there, those muscles are tight. Yours are probably tight too. Well, that is one area of the spine that is neglected, or not well addressed by massage chairs, in general. Well, Inada came out with a chair – and you can see right here, you can see these airbags pushing down with the knobules – imagine that your shoulders are right underneath that, and this is digging in to your shoulders, and the Sogno does that through airbags, the pressure in the airbags. Now, you can adjust the pressure in the airbags to make them low, medium, or high, and we will retract them a little bit, and now it’s medium, and you can see them, now you see them pushing out again. I’m going to push it on to high now, and you’ll see them extend even further, and then they will retract, and then they will come, they will retract back in to the headpiece, and dig down again.

Alan: Now, you see, on this headpiece, it alternates between neck massage and the shoulder airbag. Now you see the shoulder airbags retreating, and in another moment, after the neck’s been massaged, you’ll see these airbags extend out again on both sides, digging in to the trapezius muscles. The way I like to describe this is if you were with a massage therapist, and they were using the elbows to dig down on your traps, that’s kind of how this feels, it feels like somebody is digging down with their elbow on to your shoulder, on to the traps of your shoulder muscles. So, let’s come back here, and I think we should be seeing these airbags inflating again, you see they’ve retracted now. Imagine that I’m sitting here, and I’ve got my shoulders right underneath the headpiece here, and as soon as this massage is done in the neck, we’re going to see the airbags inflate again. Just give it a couple of seconds, and with the Sogno, it also comes along with these little plates that have these nodules on them, so they can really dig in to those muscles.

Alan: For some people, that’s a little bit too much, and a little too intense, so you can remove those plates by tearing off the back – oh, now it’s inflating, I won’t mess with it – but you see how it’s inflating and pushing down now, and you can see the knobules from that plate underneath, digging in to your shoulders. That is the trapezius massage from the Inada Sogno. If I tear off the Velcro on the back, you can see the actual airbag with the little plate that has the knobules. If that’s too intense for you, they have another plate that comes with it, you can remove the ones with the knobules, and you can put on the flat one, and it’s not quite as intense on the top of the shoulders. So, that is the airbag massage of the Inada Sogno, for the trapezius muscles, which is, again, a very neglected area, by most chairs. So, I hope you found this video interesting and helpful.
