A group of researchers conducted a survey of two groups of people to try and establish a link between healthy lifestyle behaviors – including alcohol use, smoking, exercise, and diet – and the occurrence of lower back and neck pain to determine whether these behaviors reduced the incidence of pain in men and women. Through the use of a questionnaire, the researchers determined that there was a link between the two factors, and that these healthy lifestyle behaviors seem to be protective against lower back pain in men and neck pain in women.
