Thanks to technology, we have the ability to contact anyone at any time, from any where we are. Unfortunately that includes the added stress of annoying work emails from your boss or clients after work hours are already over. But that sort of work overload is about to get banned in Germany.
A health and safety expert for the Federation of German Trade Unions said that after hours work leads to increased stress which can result in health problems, decreased productivity at work, and psychological problems and pain. All of which led to more than half of German workers to apply for early retirement last year.
The solution may lie within the German Labor Minister’s proposed “anti-stress regulation”, which compels companies to reduce stress in the work place and also ban employers from contacting employees after hours. It is already against the law to contact employees on vacation.
