Covid & Christmas Delivery

What an interesting year, indeed! This Covid pandemic has turned our world upside down and the massage chair industry is no exception.

First, we had some logistics issues with getting some chairs from China since they were  shut down during the early stages of the pandemic.

delivery truckThen, we had some in-home delivery & set up slowdowns because there were some companies that would not do in-home deliveries, leaving the bulk of those deliveries to the remaining companies. That created delays for most of the country. Those delays added anywhere from 2-3 weeks on to the pre-Covid time frame of 2 weeks (we are still seeing these in-home delivery & setup delay time frames).

Then, we saw some slow downs in regular curbside deliveries because more customers were in the market for a massage chair (increase in demand). Since people could not or would not visit their massage chair therapists during the pandemic, the demand for massage chairs in the customer’s homes increase substantially. However, the amount of truck drivers and trucks remained the same or even decreased a bit leaving less drivers available for delivering on the increased demand for more massage chairs.

Now, we are seeing delays at the port. China production is in full swing, the increased customer demand for chairs in the US has not slowed down, and truck driver availability is down, leading to a 1-2 week delay at the California ports.

You can see that it is a multi-linked logistics chain that can be pretty sensitive to demand, supply, and availability of transportation…causing a domino effect.

The bottom line is that shipping deadlines for Christmas delivery (December 25th) have been moved way, way back from what we have been accustomed to in previous years.

For example, deadlines for in-home delivery & setup orders (aka White Glove Delivery) have been moved back to the end of November by most massage chair companies.

Deadlines for national curbside delivery have been moved back to the first week of December.

But, here are some exceptions that you need to be aware of:

  1. If your chair is back-ordered and expected to arrive at the port at the end of November, the chairs may not get to the massage chair company warehouses for 1-2 weeks after that because of the port delays I mentioned above. Then even curbside shipping by December 25th may be a challenge, depending on where you live. White Glove delivery will probably not happen at all by the 25th, unless you live near the Southern California warehouse of one of our massage chair suppliers.
  2. If you live near the warehouse of one of the massage chair suppliers, i.e. Southern California, and your chair is in stock, you can probably get your chair delivered without much problem at all up to just days before Christmas. Our Southern California white glove delivery team will make sure that you get your chair picked up from one of those warehouses and delivered to you by the 25th…and that even includes white glove delivery! If you find yourself pressed for time for a Christmas delivery, you may want to check out the models of the companies listed above. If you order a massage chair model from one of these companies, AND IT IS IN STOCK, you will most likely get your chair delivered to your home or business by our white glove delivery team the week of Christmas.

I hope this helps in making you very aware of time constraints this holiday season, thanks to Covid-19. By the way, if your chair is back-ordered, pre-order NOW. Don’t wait for the chair shipments to come in, because the whole shipment may have been spoken for by customer pre-orders. We have seen this happen in the past and are currently seeing this with some Panasonic, JPMedics, and OHCO order. Plan ahead on the getting the best gift anyone would want!!
