Comparing Massage Chair Features? Consider These Options

Comparing massage chair features is necessary if you’re going to find the ideal model for your needs and budget.

But, with potentially hundreds of options to choose from, the process can quickly become overwhelming. The easiest way to pare your choices down to a manageable number is to start by establishing a budget and looking only at the models that fall into that range.

Next, establish your list of “must have” features. For most buyers, that includes items such as neck massage, calf rollers and technique options like rolling, kneading, tapping, compression and shiatsu. You probably also have a good idea what color you want your chair to be and what kind of upholstery you prefer.

Before you make any final choices, however, be sure to compare your options based on these criteria.

Warranty

The warranty coverage you get with a massage chair purchase can vary widely between manufacturers and models. You will typically get between one- and three-years’ coverage for parts and labor and, in most cases, some period of in-home warranty repair. Because you can’t easily pack and ship the chair somewhere for repair, the in-home aspect of the warranty may be especially important for you.

User Weight & Height

Manufacturers rate massage chairs for an ideal range of user height and maximum weight. Most chairs are rated for users between 5’2” and 6’4”. However, you can find models that expand that range in either direction. If you’re especially short or tall, this will be an important consideration. Likewise, most models max out at a user weight of 265-285. However, you can find chairs that accommodate users who weigh more, including some that range up to 350 lbs.

Foot Massage Options

Many massage chairs include foot massaging features. However, this can be done via air bags, rollers or alternatives like air-propelled shiatsu balls. If you’re not sure which type is right for you, you may want to visit a massage chair retail store in your area to experience each type.

Space Saver Options

If your space is limited, you may want to select a model that offers a space saver option. This means you can position the chair closer to the wall than other models and recline without bumping into the wall behind you.

Connectivity & A/V Options

Although most massage chairs being manufactured today offer Bluetooth connectivity, not all models do. Likewise, music systems and, in some cases, video display, are also common but not ubiquitous. If these features are important to you, be sure to compare these options.
