What does zero gravity really mean in a massage chair?
The term zero gravity comes from NASA. As defined by NASA, the ideal zero-gravity position places the seat at approximately 30 degrees above horizontal, with an angle of about 128 degrees between the seat and the chair back. Some sources cite a range of 124 to 128 degrees, but those are the key measurements that define the position.
The concept is simple: the chair reclines while the seat tilts upward, allowing your body weight to be distributed more evenly.
When you’re sitting upright in a traditional chair, much of your body weight compresses your lower spine. In the zero-gravity position, that weight is spread across a much larger portion of your back, reducing pressure on any one area of the spine.
Many people describe this sensation as feeling “weightless.” You’re not actually weightless, of course, but because your weight is distributed more evenly, you don’t feel the same concentrated pressure that you experience when sitting upright for long periods.
That’s one of the biggest benefits of zero gravity. It helps reduce spinal compression, increases comfort, and allows you to relax more completely while enjoying your massage.
