American stress is on the rise – New York Post

Fifty-seven percent of those polled said that the current political situation is a significant source of stress, and 66 percent said that the nation’s future is a significant source of stress. Young Americans continue to report higher stress levels than older generations, and Americans with lower incomes report more stress than those with higher incomes.

Key Takeaways:

  • American stress levels rose from 4.8 to a 5.1, on a 10-point scale, between August 2016 and January 2017.
  • National stress levels had steadily declined since 2007 to 2012, with most Americans citing money, work and the economy as their biggest stressors.
  • Thirty-four percent of Americans claimed to be significantly stressed over personal safety this January, compared with 29 percent in August 2016.

“National stress levels had steadily declined since 2007 to 2012, with most Americans citing money, work and the economy as their biggest stressors. This year, the APA pins the stress increase on America’s political climate.”
