Zebrafish and humans have the same mechanisms to regenerate and repair but humans have lost the ability to do this. Scientists are studying the developing backbone of Zebrafish to determine the repair response for back injury and even how chordomas, spinal cancer cells form. In Zebrafish, nucleotide molecules trigger a repair response. The study suggests that release of these nucleotides can trigger the repair response found in these fish and could also work for humans.
