Countless people suffer from chronic pain and are turning to alternative therapies. Doctors are supporting their patients' decisions to find safer, more effective treatments. Emerging research in pain management endorse the trend towards drug-free treatment. Those treatments include acupuncture, physical therapy, mindfullness training, etc.
While studies advance the acceptance of alternative therapies to treat pain, they are not always covered by insurance. This forces patients to choose between a traditional pharmacological treatment that is covered but may not be appropriate or an alternative treatment paid out of pocket that may be more successful. As study after study proves the effectiveness of alternative therapies, their acceptance by insurance companies will increase giving consumers more options.
