Sadly, certain jobs put people at higher risk than most for suicide. The study in the article looks at the morbid subject, and reports statistics on the rate of suicides for every one million people. 1.5 suicides occurred in the workplace for every million workers, that’s just over 1,700 people in the course of ten years.
144.1 per million suicides took place outside of the workplace but were said to be due to work-related issues. Sadly, there are consistent trends in certain jobs that show some are at higher risk for suicide.
Topping the list is police officers, followed by farmers, medical doctors, and soldiers. It’s a very sad thing to hear, especially when those are the occupation of people we need most to run the economy.
