Stressed out Workers Have High Risk Factor for Stroke

A new study has found that people who work at high stress jobs are 22% more likely to have a stroke than those that do not. Although the exact nature of the link is unclear, researchers have theorized that the correlation exists because people who work in a high stress jobs tend to have higher than normal body mass index values. Additionally, workers whose jobs cause them to feel excessive amounts of stress also tend to contract metabolic disorders at higher rates than their less stressed counterparts. As job stress is an unfortunate but unavoidable part of life, we all have to find ways of relieving the strain work places upon us.

One quick and relatively inexpensive way to deal with work stress is massage. By getting regular 15 minute massages from a qualified therapist or a massage chair, you can greatly reduce the effects of work stress. Through the calculated exertion of pressure on your muscles, massage relieves muscle tension. Massage also increases blood circulation, which promotes good cardiovascular health. And, when you receive a massage, your body releases a host of stress busting hormones in your bloodstream, which can have the effect of breaking up the fatty deposits that are commonly responsible for stroke-inducing illnesses such asatherosclerosis.
