A new study shows that serious life events in childhood (such as death or illness in the family, divorce, a new child, etc.) can triple the risk of subsequently developing type 1 diabetes. The actual causes of T1D are unknown, but both genetic and environmental factors are involved. This new study aimed to examine whether psychological stress in terms of serious life events, along with parenting issues and social support during a child’s first 14 years, may be a risk for developing T1D.
