Although the sample wasn’t random, researchers found that there was a relation between severity of PTSD and decreased cognition in people who were responders to 9/11. Although the people were only around 53 years old at the time of response if they were smokers and had lower education jobs and had the stressors they were at risk for developing more cognitive decline and Alzheimers symptoms. Doctors will need to be aware if people have experience PTSD when they examine people for cognitive declines.
