Chronic back pain is defined by lasting more than three months and can be caused by conditions such as disk ruptures, spasms, or sprains. It can also be caused by medical conditions such as arthritis, scoliosis, or stenosis. Acute pain will often improve with a self-care routine of movement, rest, heat and/or cold packs, and OTC anti-inflammatory medications.
