Alan: Hi, I’m Dr. Alan Weidner from ‘Massage-Chair-Relief.com‘ and today we’re going to talk about neck pain. Neck pain is a very common complaint of people who are shopping for a massage chair. That may be the reason why you’re looking for a massage chair.

Alan: Neck pain that is caused by muscles is where a massage chair can really benefit you. If it’s a neck pain caused by a tumor, or a growth, or a cyst, or bones, you know, locked up joints, things like that, the chair typically does not help much with those things, unless the muscle component is involved. So, or maybe you’ve had a surgery in your neck, and a fusion of the neck. Now, it will not help the fusion. It won’t help the surgical procedure at all, but it will help break up scar tissue, and break down muscle spasm that’s surrounding that area where you may have had the surgical procedure done.

Alan: So, anyway, you’ve got muscles that run from the base of your skull down to the base of your neck, and now there’s various muscles that are involved. There’s the suboccipitals, which are the muscles right under the base of the skull. These can cause headache problems, and we’ll talk about that on a separate video. You’ve got part of your levator scapula muscles, and your trapezius muscles that come off your shoulders and come up your neck. So, the massage chair will help those as well, but that – we’ll talk about shoulder pain in another video because there’s different causes of shoulder pain, and when people say shoulder pain, it could be – you know, what part of the shoulder? Is it the deltoid, is it the front of the shoulder, is it the back of the shoulder, is it the top of the shoulder? But anyway, for neck pain, there’s muscles that run down the top to the bottom of the neck. We call them paraspinal muscles. They are typically the muscles you go to rub when you’re sore after sitting at a desk, or at a computer all day. This kind of stuff a massage chair can do wonders for.

Alan: And so, sitting in a massage chair for sometimes just as short as 10 or 15 minutes, with the rollers focused on the neck, you’ll notice a difference in the way that your neck feels. So, for neck pain, massage chairs can do fantastically, so long as it is – as far as we know – so long as it is a muscle pain that’s causing you your discomfort, and not something more sinister, or more visceral, or something more, a little deeper than that. So, neck pain, well served by massage chairs, the rollers do a wonderful job on the muscles of the neck, and it’ll help you get out of pain.
