Investigators noted that the lymphatic massage was the most effective massage for those with fibromyalgia. The lymph nodes sometimes swell up, and the need to relieve this swelling is due to the lymph system’s importance in maintaining fluid balance in the tissue system. The lymph system does not actively push this fluid; rather, the contracting of the muscles around it push the fluid. If there is no movement, the lymph builds up, and swelling occurs. The massage is said to help open the ducts and allow easier movement of the fluid.
