Have you ever sprained your ankle or wrist? You know that moving the foot or hand associated with the sprain is going to hurt like heck if you move it, so instead you might just try not to and just let the sprain heal instead. Well, if you’ve ever done that, than you’ll know how much more it hurts moving the joint after letting it rest for so long with no movement at all. This is what having a fear of movement relates to, and it’s actually quite common in people who have back pain. They fear that they will make the pain worse, or are just trying so hard to avoid it, that they won’t stretch or exercise, which tends to lead to the pain getting worse.
