How a Healthy Diet Can Lower Your Stress Level

While we tend to think of stress as being psychological in nature, it has a profound impact on our physical health. It can cause our blood pressure to rise, it can cause us to experience intense pain in our throughout our bodies, and it can make us feel exhausted, even after a good night’s sleep.

Since it is as much a physical ailment as it is a mental one, it makes sense to treat stress in two ways. To treat the psychological effects of stress, you should listen to soothing music, sleep at least 8 hours a night and practice breathing exercises or complete a few adult coloring books.

To fight stress physically, you should regularly engage in aerobic exercise, spend some time every week in a massage chair, curtail your alcohol and tobacco intake and maintain a healthy diet. That last stress fighting measure is especially important as a poor diet can play a major role in your overall stress level. Making unhealthy foods and drinks like candy, greasy fast food and caffeine packed energy drinks and sodas a part of your diet will only serve to exacerbate and perpetuate the effects of stress.

However, as this blog post explains, eating health and nutritious foods like Greek yogurt, oatmeal and berries can play a big role in keeping your stress level nominal.
