We’re seeing more and more of these. They’re often called “walking” footrests or walking leg massagers.
A typical massage chair has a foot and calf well for your legs. The two sides sit next to each other as one unit, so when the legs go up, they go up together, and when they go down, they go down together.
Now, we’re seeing chairs with what they call a walking leg massager. I’ve talked about this before. These systems can move the legs up and down together, but they can also move them independently of each other.
The idea is that this movement can help stretch the iliopsoas, or hip flexor, muscle. I’ve sat in a couple of chairs that have this feature, including the Phantom Rovo by BODYFRIEND and the Trion by Osaki. We have the Trion in a couple of our showrooms.
However, I wouldn’t consider the movement a true stretch of the iliopsoas or hip flexor muscle. I think of it more as a mobility feature that allows your legs to move independently of each other, introducing movement into the hip joints and pelvic area.
It’s pretty cool, and I think it’s a great feature. But based on our experience, it hasn’t been quite as popular as we initially thought it would be when we first heard about the technology. I thought the technology was fantastic when I first saw it. BODYFRIEND actually came out with it first.
Anyway, I hope you found this video helpful. I’m Dr. Alan Weidner from Massage Chair Relief, and I’ll see you in the next video. Bye-bye.
