As you search for a massage chair, I strongly encourage you to sit in the actual chairs you’re considering. You’ll discover that some chairs are very strong and intense, while others are much softer.
Your preference for a gentle or firm massage is very personal. What feels strong to you might feel weak to someone else—and vice versa.
You’ll also find that every chair feels different. Some will naturally feel stronger; others will feel more relaxed. Most 3D and 4D chairs allow you to adjust roller intensity so the rollers can dig in more or less, depending on what you want.
But here’s the mistake many people make:
If you choose a chair that feels soft today—because you’re tender or you feel a little sore after trying chairs—you may think you need a gentler massage chair. The problem is that if the chair you buy doesn’t have the ability to go stronger, you may quickly outgrow it.
Here’s what happens:
You go to a showroom, try a chair, and think,
“Wow, this feels too strong for me.”
So you pick a softer chair instead.
But once you buy it and start using it regularly, your body adjusts to that intensity. Very soon, you might find yourself thinking,
“Hmm… this isn’t strong enough anymore.”
If that chair is already operating at its maximum intensity, you’re stuck—you have nowhere to go. You’ll be left wanting more strength than the chair can provide.
So here’s the bottom line:
When you test a massage chair, make sure it has a little more strength than you can comfortably handle at first. If the lowest setting feels a bit strong, that’s actually okay—you’ll adapt to it quickly, and you’ll eventually want more intensity.
If a chair feels too strong right away, you can always soften it. Just use a back pad or, like we do in our showrooms, fold a throw blanket lengthwise a few times and drape it over the backrest for extra cushioning.
It’s far better to get a chair that’s initially a little too strong—because you will grow into it—than a chair that’s too soft, because you’ll grow out of it.
