Last year we began carrying the Daiwa brand from USJaclean. I was familiar with USJaclean for years as they had traditionally distributed their chairs via trade shows, conventions, home shows, etc. When we used to do the local Utah home show back in 2006-2008, we would frequently see their booth. I knew nothing of their chair models, their business model, their warranty, or the quality of their customer support.
In January 2020, I was invited to their display at the Las Vegas Furniture Market to meet with USJaclean’s then-vice president Hide Yoshida. They were looking to expand their distribution channels to include retailers, such as Massage Chair Relief. I have been asked before to represent massage chairs, but have become a bit leery because of the quality of the chairs and support.
But, since I go to the Furniture Market regularly, I agreed to meet with them. I immediately recognized the chairs and the factory where they were built, as I had visited that factory in China a couple of years before then. I knew they were good chairs just because of that. Mr. Yoshida showed me many of their models, but I was impressed with their Supreme Hybrid prototype, which they were introducing at the Market. We discussed their business model, warranty, and 9 service centers around the country to simplify logistics and customer support. I was very impressed. Though I didn’t become a dealer at that moment, the bug was in my ear and I knew that I would eventually carry their chairs, especially when the Supreme Hybrid came to market, which it did at the end of last summer. And, so began our professional relationship with USJaclean and, I must say, it has been a great association.
Fast forward to this last week when I was visiting my California store. We had an appointment to visit the Daiwa/USJaclean headquarters in Gardena, CA. Although Mr. Yoshida has since left the company, we had the privilege of visiting with Lex Gonzalez, one of USJaclean’s sales executives, and Michael Kogure, the president of USJaclean. We had a wonderful visit, chatting about their chairs, the industry, and his over 40 years involvement in the massage chair industry. He spoke of their philosophy and business model and then provided us with a tour of their very large multi-building facility. It was a very impressive visit. We discussed doing an online video interview in the not-too-distant future so that our viewers and customers can get a better feel for who this company is and what they represent.
