Hi, I’m Dr. Alan Weidner from Massage Chair Relief, and I’d like to welcome you today to an interview with our customer, Arthur, who is the owner of an Infinity Luminary Center D massage chair.
Arthur, thank you so much for being here. Welcome.
Arthur: Happy to be here, Alan. Great to be talking with you.
Dr. Weidner: I really appreciate you making the time. I know time is precious, so thank you for being here. Arthur, why don’t you tell us a little bit about how your search for a massage chair began? Had you ever owned one before?
Arthur: No, I hadn’t owned one before. I may have tried one in an airport a few years ago, but I didn’t know much about massage chairs. About six months ago, I visited a friend who had what I’d describe as more of a vibrating chair than a real massage chair, but it intrigued me. It got me thinking about what might be out there.
I started doing some research online and discovered this whole world of massage chairs. I came across a lot of “Top 10 Best Massage Chairs” lists, and many of them offered a lot of features in the $2,000 range. But I knew I wasn’t going to buy anything until I could try chairs in person.
I live in San Francisco, so I visited a few stores around the Bay Area, but I didn’t find the staff particularly helpful. After more research, I came across your showroom in Fremont. What really intrigued me was that there was an actual doctor associated with the business. For me, this felt like an investment in my health and well-being, and I liked the idea of talking with someone who wasn’t just a salesperson, but someone who understood the human body.
I also liked that I could make an appointment. So I scheduled one with Ian, who runs your Fremont showroom. It was over an hour drive for me, but it was absolutely worth it.
Ian was very low-key and let me explore the chairs at my own pace, explaining differences when needed. That visit was very helpful. There were a few chairs I liked, but I hadn’t made a decision yet. I went home, did more research, and then scheduled a follow-up visit.
On my second visit, I narrowed my choices down to two chairs: the Infinity Luminary, which I ultimately purchased, and the Osaki Duo Max. I was torn between the two. I initially thought I might go with the Osaki, but after thinking it through more at home, I realized the Infinity was the right chair for me. That turned out to be a great decision.
I have some medical issues—problems with my left hip, leg, and glutes—so I wanted a chair that really focused on the waist, hips, and glute area. Of all the chairs I tried, the Infinity provided the best massage for those areas, at least for my body.
I also really liked the extension program—one of the massage programs is called “Extension,” and that’s one I use frequently.
Dr. Weidner: That’s the stretch program.
Arthur: Right, exactly. I was also looking for a strong zero-gravity feature, which this chair definitely has, along with an excellent foot massage. One thing I liked about the Infinity is that it doesn’t have an enclosed foot compartment. It’s easier to get in and out of, but still provides a great foot massage.
Dr. Weidner: I remember we spoke on the phone before you made your final decision, and you shared some of those concerns. Ian mentioned you might appreciate talking with me about your situation.
One thing that always amazes me about massage chairs isn’t just that they help, but what they help. People report fewer headaches, better sleep, deeper breathing, lower blood pressure. In your case, with hips, glutes, and sciatica, it really seemed like a good fit.
Arthur: Absolutely. My muscles tend to get very tight, and I sometimes get leg cramps at night. I’m always looking for ways to relax those areas, and this chair helps a lot. I use the night program every evening before bed, and I’m sleeping better. It’s a great way to relax at the end of the day.
Dr. Weidner: Are you fairly active?
Arthur: I do a lot of walking because I have a dog, and I’m the designated dog walker. I probably don’t stretch as much as I should afterward.
Dr. Weidner: That stretch program on the Luminary is pretty strong. Do you find it intense?
Arthur: I love it. Some aspects of the chair are actually a bit too strong for me, so I usually dial the 4D down to level one and reduce the airbag strength from three to two. But I like knowing there’s room to increase intensity as my body adapts.
Dr. Weidner: And that chair includes extra padding.
Arthur: Yes, I use all of it—the full back pad, half back pad, and neck pillow. I like the intensity, and I’ve tried many of the programs. Each one feels different, and I’m learning which ones work best depending on the time of day and how my body feels. I use the chair at least once a day, sometimes twice.
The foot massage is great, especially with the foot pads and wearing socks. The calf massage is excellent too. Sometimes the arm massage feels strong, but adjusting the airbag intensity helps.
Dr. Weidner: You mentioned sleep improvement. Have you noticed changes in your range of motion?
Arthur: Yes. This chair was actually my 70th birthday present to myself. I feel more limber, walk more comfortably, and my hip and leg muscles don’t hurt as quickly. Overall, I just feel more flexible.
Dr. Weidner: That’s wonderful. Massage chairs are increasingly being used for recovery after exercise.
Arthur: Yes, there’s a post-workout program I use that’s very helpful.
Dr. Weidner: Is there anything you’d change about the chair?
Arthur: It’s a bit harder to customize than I expected, and I wish there were more memory buttons. I haven’t used features like the ionizer or lights much, but I do connect my phone to the speakers and play relaxing music. One thing I really value is that it’s 20 minutes of uninterrupted downtime—no phone, no TV. It’s almost like meditation.
Dr. Weidner: That quiet time is incredibly valuable.
Arthur: And you can’t scroll your phone when your arms are locked in the chair!
Dr. Weidner: For people shopping for their first chair, what advice would you give?
Arthur: Find a reputable dealer. Try chairs in person. If you can afford it, spend a little more for quality. I paid more than I planned, but I don’t regret it. The service, warranty, delivery—everything was seamless. It’s a very personal decision. The chair has to fit your body.
Dr. Weidner: That’s exactly right. No one chair fits everyone.
Arthur: There’s so much adjustability—foot length, back length, zero gravity positioning—it really allows personalization. I’ve been very pleased.
Dr. Weidner: I’m glad to hear that. We recently filmed new Luminary videos and I was reminded how much I enjoy that chair.
Arthur: One piece of advice Ian gave me was not to treat it like a TV recliner. We ended up placing it in our living room, and it looks great. There was some negotiation with my husband, but I think I won.
Dr. Weidner: That’s very common!
Arthur: He’s tried it once or twice. He’s not a big massage person, but maybe he’ll come around. I’ve always enjoyed massage, but it’s hard to make time to leave the house regularly. Having this at home is a real blessing.
Dr. Weidner: Absolutely.
Arthur: The only thing I’m unhappy about is that we kept the box—it’s taking up half our garage.
Dr. Weidner: Send me an email and we’ll see if our delivery team can pick it up.
Arthur: That would be great. Thank you.
Dr. Weidner: Arthur, thank you so much for your time and for sharing your experience. Your insights are personal, and that’s exactly how massage chairs should be viewed.
Arthur: Thank you. I really enjoyed the conversation.
Dr. Weidner: Likewise. Take care.
Arthur: Bye.
