There is something in our industry called a failure rate. A failure rate refers to the percentage of massage chairs that experience problems or require repairs over time.

When I first started in this industry, I was told that failure rates were very low—typically around 2% to 5%. However, after more than 20 years in the business, and through our direct experience servicing chairs under our lifetime labor warranty, I’ve learned something important:

You truly get what you pay for.

For chairs priced under $5,000—typically in the $2,000 to $5,000 range—we commonly see failure rates between 10% and 25%, depending on the quality of the chair and the factory that manufactures it.

In the $5,000 to $10,000 range, where quality is generally higher, failure rates tend to fall between 5% and 10%.

For premium chairs priced above $10,000, especially those built in top-tier factories with high-quality components and strong quality control processes, failure rates are typically 5% or less.

The reason is straightforward: lower-priced chairs often use less expensive components and may not undergo the same level of quality control testing. As a result, they are more likely to require repairs over time. Higher-end chairs are built with better materials, better engineering, and more rigorous testing standards, which leads to lower failure rates.

This also correlates with longevity.

• Lower-priced chairs often last between 2 and 8 years.

• Mid-range chairs in the $5,000 to $10,000 category typically last around 10 years, sometimes longer.

• Premium chairs can often last 15 years or more.

So again, in this industry, you get what you pay for—both in terms of failure rates and overall lifespan.
