Daiwa Supreme Hybrid X Review: What’s NEW & Is It Worth the Upgrade?

warranty

This is Dr. Alan Weidner from Massage Chair Relief, and today I’m going to introduce you to the new Daiwa Supreme Hybrid X massage chair. This is an upgrade from Daiwa’s very popular Supreme Hybrid, which we’ve been selling since 2019.

In fact, the Daiwa Supreme Hybrid was the first split-track, dual-roller-mechanism chair in our U.S. market. Since then, the technology has exploded, and now virtually every company has a split-track and dual-mechanism chair, or at least one or more chairs with that type of design.

The Hybrid has now been upgraded to the Hybrid X, and here are some of the differences.

It still has two rollers in the upper mechanism and four rollers in the lower mechanism, with both mechanisms working simultaneously. The upper mechanism is now 4D. I can’t remember if the previous model was 3D, but the new one is 4D. The lower mechanism is 2D, which means the rollers move up and down and side to side.

The 4D mechanism adds forward-and-backward movement, as well as the ability to adjust the speed and rhythm of the rollers throughout an automatic program.

Another new feature—and we just learned about this one—is aromatherapy. There’s a small metal insert with magnets attached to it, and you place one of the included scent cartridges inside. The chair comes with four or five different scents. We have the citrus scent in this one.

You simply plug the cartridge back into the module, and the magnets hold it in place. On the tablet remote, you can go into the settings and select the aromatherapy feature to turn it on.

However, there’s an important detail: the aromatherapy feature works in combination with the ventilation feature, which is also new on this chair.

If you look at the seat, you’ll see small pinholes throughout the surface. When you turn on the ventilation feature, there are three settings. Fans inside the chair blow air through those small holes, helping to ventilate and cool you while you sit in the chair.

That same ventilation system also pushes the aroma from the aromatherapy module into the air around your face. The scent is subtle rather than overpowering, and you don’t feel a strong stream of air blowing directly at your face. It simply distributes the scent gently into the air around you.

The citrus scent we tried smells fantastic.

The chair itself looks almost exactly like the previous model. It’s still a wall-hugger, and it still has a one-year labor and five-year parts warranty. It also retains the quick-access keys on the side.

You still have foot rollers, but the calf massage has a slightly different configuration.

On the old model, the calf airbags were positioned on the sides and squeezed your calves. On the new model, they’ve added a separate mechanism with a rubber nodule. When the air inflates the mechanism, it pushes that rubber nodule against the back of your calf.

So, it doesn’t have a traditional calf roller. Instead, the rubber nodule presses into the back of your calf, which can feel very good, especially if you’re on your feet all day or do a lot of running, cycling, or other physical activities.

What else does this chair have?

We’ve already talked about the ventilation and aromatherapy. Another major difference is that there are now 24 automatic programs instead of 12, so they’ve doubled the number of programs.

One of those programs is a wellness program. There’s a small sensor on the chair, which you may have seen on other massage chairs that offer wellness, health, or “chair doctor” programs.

You place your finger on the sensor, select the wellness scan on the remote, and the chair performs a scan. It then creates a massage program based on the findings of that scan.

That’s a relatively new feature.

The chair also retains the HyperFlex stretch, which is one of the great features of this model. Even after all these years, the HyperFlex stretch remains one of the best stretches you can get from a massage chair, whether it uses an S-track, SL-track, or split/flex track.

I’ve explained those different track designs in previous videos, so you can go back through our YouTube videos or social media for short tutorials about those terms.

The HyperFlex stretch on this chair is still one of the best, even among other split-track chairs.

Another significant improvement is the ottoman.

The chair was designed to accommodate people up to about 6’5″ or 6’6″. It did a great job of massaging the neck on taller people, but the old model had one problem: the legs didn’t extend far enough.

One of the challenges with massage chairs is that the rollers don’t always reach high enough to massage the neck properly. That’s why the published height range isn’t always enough to determine whether a chair will actually fit you.

A manufacturer may say a chair fits someone who is 6’4″, 6’5″, or 6’6″, but you won’t really know how well it fits until you sit in it and see whether the rollers reach the right spot on your neck and whether the leg length works for you.

That’s another reason why trying a massage chair before you buy it is so important.

People have different body proportions. Some tall people have long torsos and shorter legs, while others have shorter torsos and very long legs. I’m not a particularly tall person, but I have a relatively long torso and shorter legs.

The old Hybrid didn’t extend very far, so some taller customers would sit in the chair with their knees raised because they couldn’t extend their legs any farther.

Daiwa has redesigned the ottoman on the Hybrid X, so the legs can now extend farther than they did before.

And if the extension still isn’t quite long enough, you can lower the ottoman, which brings your thighs farther onto the seat and helps accommodate your body.

Overall, the leg extension is much better than it was on the previous model. That was one of our main criticisms of the old chair for taller people—the legs simply didn’t extend far enough.

Now they do, while you still get that excellent neck massage from the rollers, even if you’re taller.

I think that’s just about everything.

The warranty remains the same, and there are several color options. This particular chair is black, but the black version is being discontinued. They also have a gray-and-black version, similar to the old Hybrid.

The exterior has a gray or silver, slightly shiny finish, while the interior is black.

There’s also a chocolate color, which Daiwa calls “Choco.” It has a two-tone brown exterior and interior.

And there’s a cream version with a cream exterior and a light beige or light-brown interior.

Those are the three colors the Daiwa Supreme Hybrid X comes in.

Another difference is the price. The new model is about $2,000 more at list price than the old Hybrid. The old Hybrid was around $13,500, while the new Hybrid X is around $15,500.

Of course, we have in-store specials if you happen to stop by one of our showrooms and decide you like the chair.

There’s also a charging station for your phone, including a USB port, and the chair has the same wireless tablet remote as the previous model.

When you’re not using the remote, you can place it back in its holder, where it can charge.

I think that’s just about everything.

The Daiwa Supreme Hybrid has remained one of our favorite and most popular models over the years, and the Hybrid X continues that tradition. There’s a lot more competition now than there was when the original Hybrid came out, but it’s still a great chair and remains one of our favorites.
