Alan: Hi, I’m Dr. Alan Weidner from ‘Massage-Chair-Relief.com’ and today is our biweekly massage chair industry update, and today is Thursday, October 26th, 2017. Thanks for stopping by for a visit.

[SCREEN TEXT: Stock Status]

Alan: As far as stock status goes, I think – let’s see, let me think – I think everything’s in pretty good stock right now. I don’t think I’ve heard of any chairs being back-ordered. No, no, I take that back, the Infinity 9800 is back-ordered until the beginning of December. I have heard rumors that that chair has been discontinued, and I’m not sure about that. I know that they still have ‘Black’ and ‘Brown’ colors available, according to my sources there. But anyway, that chair is back-ordered, that, and the – oh my, the other chair that’s back-ordered, oh the – not back-ordered, but the uKnead Lohas, which is a brand-new model, they’re expecting their first shipment in at the end of this month, the end of October, so it should be any day. That is an interesting-looking chair, I like it, and we have the prototype, or the beta-testing chair, one of the beta-testing chairs, in our showroom in Utah, and it’s a nice chair. It looks kind of like a taller version of the Novo XT. It’s got Bluetooth, it’s got eight programs, I believe, eight or nine programs. It’s a smaller-footprint chair, it doesn’t take up a lot of space, and it’s a space saver, so you can put it up against, close to the wall. Anyway, but that chair, their first shipment, I believe, is coming in the end of this month.

Alan: Now, speaking of other new models, I mentioned to you that we have the Johnson 6800, 5800, and the 5600 now available. I’m just putting some finishing touches on the 5800 and 5600 as far as features go, but that’ll be up today. We also have the Inner Balance Jin, which is a chair that’s from Inner Balance Wellness, and Inner Balance, and Synca are all part of Johnson Wellness. And so, the new Synca CirC, C-I-R-C, and the Inner Balance Jin, those chairs, we should have those all tweaked and ready to go by the end of this week.

[SCREEN TEXT: Synca Wellness CirC Model in Our Utah Showroom]

Alan: The Jin is an L-track, the CirC is an L-track too, but it’s a tiny little thing. I think I have – yeah, I wrote about it on my blog – it’s a small little chair. I took a picture of it next to the Lohas, and the Lohas is a small chair, but the CirC is a tiny little thing, but it has an L-track that extends from your middle back down to your buttock. There’s no leg or foot, there’s no arm massage. There is a waist, kind of a waist/hip airbag, and the rollers don’t reach up to your neck. It’s 34 inches long, but it’s an L-track, so it covers your mid and lower back, and your butt, but it does not cover your neck, nor does it have any leg, or foot, or other extremity airbags. It won the ‘Good Design’ award for this year, it’s a cute little chair, I would call that a gamer chair, much like what we used to call the iJoy chairs from Human Touch. It’s a small chair, not ideal for older folks that have to bend down, like me, with a little bit, you know, maybe beat up and repaired knees over the years, but it’s a great chair for smaller bodies, and younger people, and it’s a nice looking little chair, too. I’ve had a number of comments about it, especially from younger visitors to the website over the last couple of weeks, since we have the chair in our Utah showroom. My delivery guys, who are both in their early 20s like the chair, the kids of some customers that came in, that were teenagers, they loved that chair as well. So, anyway, cool chair, it retails for $899, so if that’s something that interests you, it might be a nice Christmas gift for someone, for one of your kids, or whatnot.

[SCREEN TEXT: Human Touch Opus – Costco Exclusive]

Alan: The, and now, Human Touch also has a new model out called Opus, and now this is only a Costco chair, you know, and I don’t carry it, but the reason I’m mentioning it is because Costco, or this chair, I’ve had a few calls on it, and it is a, as I had it described to me, it’s a bit of a dumbed-down version of the AcuTouch 6.0, and the Bali, the AcuTouch 8.0. Now, we never carried the 6.0. They used to sell that through Costco as well. We carried the 8.0, this is a lesser version, a less-expensive version, less features. I think it’s going for $2995, something like that, but that’s only a Costco chair, we don’t sell that, it’s an exclusive. But anyway, let me see if I’ve got anything else on here that it says about that, five – yeah, it’s got, hmm, I don’t even know, man, I can’t even read my own writing, I’m embarrassed to say – oh, ZeroG, oh, it has the ZeroG 5.0 remote control. So, it’s got, it looks, it kind of looks and feels like an AcuTouch 6.0, but it has the remote control and functions of the ZeroG 5.0, which is another $2995 chair that they have, which is not an L-track, from Human Touch, it’s not an L-track, and neither is this Opus. It’s not an L-track, it is a traditional S-track.

[SCREEN TEXT: S-Track vs. L-Track Stretch Programs]

Alan: Now, speaking of S-tracks and L-tracks, I wrote an article last week describing the differences in the stretch program, between the L-tracks and the S-tracks. A lot of people like stretch programs and they want stretch programs, and you know, there are some chairs like the Infinity IT-8500, or the Luraco iRobotics 7, or the Inada DreamWave that are S-track chairs. In other words, the rollers come down and follow the curve of the spine, but end at the top of the buttock. The L-tracks continue on down under the seat. Well, the stretches on the L-tracks are not as effective as the stretches on the S-tracks, because the S-track can flatten right out, and the chair can recline to 170 to 180 degrees, the ottoman can drop down, and the airbags hold on to everything. It’s really pulling your body apart, or stretching your body. Pulling your body apart is a little dramatic, it’s not pulling your body apart, but it feels like it’s kind of elongating the spine. Well, the L-tracks, you have that L-track-shape, and you can’t flatten that out, so you cannot recline the chair to 180 degrees, you can’t drop the seat down flat. So, you’re kind of in this L-track-position reclined, so your thighs are up a little bit in the air, and then the ottoman will extend a bit, and then pull down. It’s not the same feel as an S-track stretch. So, if you want an awesome stretch, you’ve got to go with an S-track. If you want L-track, which is pretty awesome, and can live with a lesser stretch, it’s still a decent stretch, but not as good as an S-track. So, if you’re familiar with an S-track stretch, which a lot of people are, and then they call asking for an L-track that has an awesome stretch, expecting that kind of stretch, they’re not going to get it. So, now that I’ve thoroughly confused you, call me if you have any questions, and I’ll answer that for you.

[SCREEN TEXT: White-Glove Delivery Alternative Suggestions!]

Alan: Finally, I got an email from a customer of mine who ordered a Novo XT, which I might add, has become an extremely popular chair for us. It’s a very nice 3D L-track chair, top quality. And the 3D represents the ability to adjust the depth of the rollers, forward and back in the z-axis. All chairs have rollers that go up and down and side to side, that’s the x- and y-axes, those are the x- and y-axes. Well, the 3D chairs move the rollers forward in the z-axis, if you get my physics jibe, and it can increase the depth of roller, the roller’s depth in to your back, or retract it from your back, to make it more or less intense. Well, the Novo is a good 3D L-track chair. Anyway, where was I going with this? Oh, anyway, this fellow had ordered a chair, and he lives outside of Butte, Montana. Now, Butte, Montana alone, it’s a city, but it’s kind of far removed from the capital, which is Helena, and far removed from Great Falls, which is I think farther north. We drive up that route every year to go back home to Canada. But anyway, he lives outside of Butte, and he sent me an interesting email that I think might have application to those of you that live in rural areas, and this was his observation: He said there’s only one company that does the white glove in Montana, in that part of Montana, and they sent two guys that kind of go on this circuitous route, and it takes them about three days. They stay in hotel rooms, and they book all these outlying deliveries on this three-day venture. Anyway, he said the guys that came were just two guys that weighed 90 pounds soaking wet. And he said, so he was saying maybe out in the rural countryside, you might get a little bit less professional white-glove delivery than you would in the city. And I get what he’s saying, but I would not agree with that, only because I have seen bad white-glove delivery in the city as well. So, it’s not exclusive to rural areas, but the issue with the rural area is that you’ll get, it’s harder to get the white glove out to you, so you might have to wait an extra week or two for them to come out to your area. It also means that you may – oh, oh, and he also thought with these two guys, they could have used a third guy – so, white-glove delivery, for most people, is really an issue of having help lifting the chair up in to the house, upstairs, downstairs, whatever, through doorways, through hallways, and in to the room that you want the chair put. That’s where the manpower is needed, assembling the chair is not always that big of a deal. As a matter of fact – and I’m not a fixer-upper guy, and I have no problem admitting this, but I am useless when it comes to fixing things, and being – I’m not a fixer-upper guy, or a guy that can build houses on his own, or even repair houses on his own, but I can put together these chairs, for the most part, it’s not a big deal. Some of them take a little bit longer, you know, maybe 45 minutes to an hour, instead of 30 minutes, but I can do them. So, if I can do them, anybody can do them. So, what this customer is suggesting is if you’re trying to decide whether to get a white-glove delivery, and you’re living out in a rural area, rather than waiting the extra time, maybe not having – oh, and here’s the thing – if they have come out there, and they’ve taken a day to come out there to deliver the chair, and there’s only two of them, and they can’t lift the chair because it needs three, they’re going to have to go back to where they were, reschedule for the next week, and it might be a bit of a bother to get your chair in a timely fashion. Well, what his suggestion is, which I think is a great suggestion is, if you can go get the chair from the terminal, like let’s say you live in – let’s say you do live in Butte, and you have to go to Helena, or Great Falls, to pick up the chair, or wait for the chair to come – go drive there, if it’s an hour away, go pick up the chair, get in a truck, most rural people have a truck, he says, and I would agree with that, coming from in-laws that have farm, a lot of farm. They have trucks, and they live out in the country, all farmers have trucks, a lot of the rural people have trucks too, that just live out in the country, and work in the city. But anyway, I’ve got verbal diarrhea, and I’m going off, but what I’m basically saying is, his suggestion is just go in and get your chair. I mean, you’ll get it in a week. You don’t have to for a week or two for it to be delivered, and to be scheduled by the rural white-glove company, and them deliver it, and then maybe even not have enough people, so they have to come back later, and delay it even longer. Go out and get it, and you know, maybe get some three neighbors, or kids, or whatever that can help you lift the chair in to the truck, and then in to the house. That is a good suggestion. Another suggestion we make for people that, even people in the city, or wherever, if you don’t want to pay that extra $200 for white glove, and you’re not worried about assembling the chair, when the regular delivery people come, it’s curbside delivery, right, so they’re going to deliver it to your curbside. That could be literally the curbside, it could be your driveway, it could be your porch, it could be on the front walk, but what I would say is, and I’ve told this to countless people over the years, and it has worked, I would say, 100% of the time for people that did it, ask them if they can bring the chair in the house. If your chair is on the main floor, they might just bring it right in the front door, and put it in the living room, where you want to put it. If it’s got to go farther back on the main floor, you know, maybe pay them $20. If it’s got to go upstairs or downstairs, offer them $40, and have them bring it up or downstairs, to wherever you want to go, and that will usually work. And then that way you save, you know, $160 to $180, maybe $200, and you can then put the chair together yourself, once it’s in the room, because that’s really, the hardest part is lifting the bloody thing. They’re not light, they are 250 to 300 pounds, most of them.
