Panasonic MA73

Alan: Hi, I'm Dr. Alan Weidner from 'Massage-Chair-Relief.com' and today I’m going to introduce you to the new Panasonic MA73 massage chair. The MA73 is a step up from the MA70, which was a popular chair, but did not accommodate a larger body frame. So, the MA73 has been designed to accommodate people up to 6’ 3,” 6’ 4,” and as short as 4’ 10,” 4’ 11,” 5 feet tall. Now, the Panasonic is a fairly easy chair to assemble, not a big deal, it's got two armrests that have to be attached, but it's not hard, you slide them on, and attach a screw at the back of each one, very easy to do, and then of course, you attach the remote control pedestal, and that's very simple to assemble. Once it's assembled, this chair can go through pretty much any door. It's not like some of the other chairs, like the DreamWave, or the Infinity, or the Iyashi, where you have to take off one of the armrests to get it through a door, once you've got it assembled in a room. So, it's a fairly easy chair to move – but let’s talk about – let's discuss a few things about it that are kind of interesting. One of the things that was a highlight of the MA70, and which is also a highlight of the MA73, is how this chair can double as a regular recliner. You do not have to use it strictly as a massage chair, none of the chairs you have to use strictly as a massage chair, but this one’s designed to be more comfortable when used as a regular recliner. Some of the things that make it look less like a massage chair, and function less like a massage chair, would include the ottoman.

Alan: So, the foot-and-calf airbags are located in the ottoman, but you can lift the ottoman – you can rotate the ottoman under – so it hides the calf and foot wells from view, so it doesn't even look like a massage chair when you look at the bottom. That's usually the first give away of a massage chair is the foot and calf wells. People can look at that, and go immediately, immediately know that that is a massage chair. The other thing that it has is these armrests that look like regular armrests, but they lift up, and underneath you have airbags that compress your forearm, and your hand, and your wrist. Now, this, you would never guess that there were airbags underneath this, when you just look at the chair as a regular chair. And one thing I should mention about this chair, which is an improvement over the MA70 – two things, from what we've already discussed, the airbags – there's a more comprehensive, sophisticated airbag system in the arms, so you get a better hand, wrist, and forearm massage on the MA73, than you did on the MA70. And also, the foot massage does not have foot rollers, but it has a knobule that sticks up in to the arch of the foot, and when that's combined, pushing up, with airbags pushing down on the foot, it kind of gives you this piston motion – it mimics this piston motion – of this thing pushing up in to the bottom of the arch. And again, it's not a mechanical foot roller, but it is an airbag mechanism that does massage the soles of the feet, kind of cool. Another thing that this chair has, which helps it double as a regular recliner, is this big, old back pad. When you're using this chair as a regular recliner, you lift that thing up and over the back of the chair. It attaches through a zipper at the top, and you also have a little cervical pillow that you can use if you want it, or if you don’t, you just have to take it off the Velcro.

Alan: But massage chairs, because of the mechanics, and the physics, of having a massage chair roller system, you've got a cavity here, and this is just a blank space, where the rollers go up and down. Well, if you’re not using it as a massage chair, and you just want to sit back in the chair, there's not much support there at all. So, what Panasonic’s done is they've given you this back pad, which can flip over, and it gives you cervical support, thoracic support, and lumbar support. And you can see the width of the foam down here in the lumbar, that gives you some good support in the low back, and some support in the thoracic, or mid back region, and support in the neck region. So, that is another tool that they've given, to help you have a chair that does not look, as overtly like a massage chair as most other chairs do, so it's kind of a nice feature. And then, of course, we also see other typical, more traditional massage chair features in here, like the shoulder airbags, which inflate to pin the upper body in, so when the rollers go up and down, you get a little bit more intense massage. You also have waist airbags here, which inflate, and in concert with the rollers, you can do a little twisting of the upper back, and of the torso, nice feature to have. You also have hip and thigh airbags, and in some chairs, the hip and thigh airbags are used to compress the hips to hold them in place, so that when the rollers go up and down, the body stays in place. Well, in some chairs, like this chair, and like the Inada DreamWave, or like the Osaki Dreamer, these airbags actually inflate, and dig in to the iliotibial bands, which are the muscles on the sides of your thighs.

[SCREEN TEXT: 'www.massage-chair-relief.com' 888-259-5380]

Alan: And if you've ever had back pain, or hip pain, or knee pain, these muscles can be compromised, and can be quite tender, and you don't even know they're tender, until a chair like this inflates and starts digging in to those thigh muscles. And it's painful, and they're not comfortable muscles to work on, but it's very therapeutic, and it will loosen up your whole lower locomotion setup. So, you'll be able to move better, you'll have greater flexibility, and you'll have less discomfort in the long run. So, these airbags are quite helpful in that that respect, there's also seat airbags. The roller track is – this is a regular S-track – there's not a L-track associated with it, so they use airbags in the seat, and that's pretty much it for the Panasonic MA73. It’s a very easy chair to use, my next video will discuss how to use it the first time, how to get started on it, it's very easy. The chair is also not a huge chair, once it's assembled, it'll slide through most doors, you can put it back on the rollers, and roll it through a door. A lot of the newer chairs, like the DreamWave, like the Dreamer, like the Infinity IT-8500, or the Iyashi, or the Luraco iRobotics 6SL, they're large chairs, they're wide, and the armrests come in a separate box to assemble, and you have to take an armrest off to get through some doors. Well, you don’t have that problem with the Panasonic MA73, it'll fit through most doors, it's a more compact, more traditional looking massage chair.

Alan: And one thing before I forget, it does have a pedestal remote control, and the pedestal has to be screwed on by you, if you're buying the chair, but it has a very simple, very intuitive massage chair remote control, very easy to use. It has a voice guidance system also, that you could turn it up, and there's a female voice that tells you what the chair's doing to you, and what you can do if you want to change something. It's a very, very easy chair to use, very easy remote control to use. Well, that's it for the Panasonic MA73, I hope you found this video helpful.
