Did you Pull a Muscle in Your Back

If you’re experiencing back pain but not entirely sure what caused it, you could have pulled a muscle in your back while doing a physical activity. But what exactly is a pulled muscle? It’s a colloquial term for a minor injury to any of the muscles, tendons, or ligaments in the back, and can be extremely painful, especially if mistreated or untreated.

A pulled muscle might require medical care in order to fully heal and if you ignore it you could risk further injury or permanent damage. Although the name “pull” implies that the muscle is out of its proper place, that is rarely the case. Most of the time, symptoms are caused by small rips in the muscle chains, which causes general discomfort and heightened pain upon movement.

There are very few cases in which the muscle actually pulls away from its attachments or winds up out of proper placement, although there is a chance it can occur. Muscle sprains typically heal on their own, however it’s advisable to take care of your back and resist engaging in any strenuous activities.
