Many men skip stretching and working on their mobility. This can be detrimental to their workout as stretching helps in arms like recovery time and allowing the muscles to take on more strain. One type of stretching is dynamic stretching, in which you gradually work to stretch muscles over a series of smaller movements. Another type is static stretching, in which you stretch and hold the position. Several stretches include: tricep stretches, shoulder stretches, quad stretches, hip flexor stretches, single-leg hamstring stretches, and glute stretches.
A static stretch is pretty much exactly as the name implies, a stretch that is held for at least fifteen seconds.
A static stretch lasts until the muscle is tight and then released for a short break.
When one starts the next set of static stretches the goal is invariably to stretch just a little bit further than before.
“Dynamic stretching consists of movements with a progressive range of motion each time.”
This topic is a bit mundane, but it is something that comes up quite regularly when discussing new massage chairs with customers. This is something that no one really thinks about until a new chair is received and/or a warranty issue arises with a new chair…THEN it’s important!
Every chair we sell comes with a “factory” warranty, which is not really a factory warranty but actually warranty coverage offered by the US distributor of the chairs, be it Osaki, Infinity, DreamWave, Panasonic, Human Touch, etc. Each company assigns a warranty period to each model they carry.
For pretty much every company we represent, your receipt from us (or from whatever retailer you decide to purchase your new chair) acts as proof of warranty. Some companies will also send out a postcard with their chairs that you are asked to fill out and send back to them, or will include a link through which you can register your chair. And, I do recommend that you fill out those cards and follow the registration link. But your receipt from the retailer will serve as verification of your warranty.
When you call to open a warranty ticket for a chair problem, you may be asked by the distributor for proof of purchase. That would be the receipt you received from your retailer. They will also, most likely, ask for the serial number of your chair (which can be found at the bottom of the back of the chair). If you purchased your chair from us and have misplaced the receipt, let us know and we can send you another copy. This would be a good time to remind you to keep your original copy of the receipt from your purchase!
One of the areas of concern for customers is when they purchase an extended warranty in addition to the factory warranty. Most companies do not send out any verification of the extended warranty purchase. Once again, your receipt that shows an included extended warranty purchase will serve as your proof of purchase of said extended warranty. Your retailer should also have a receipt from the distributor showing that they purchased the extended warranty for you.
So, in summary, the bottom line when it comes to massage chair warranty registration is:
Keep your receipt from the retailer at the time purchase.
If you purchased an additional extended warranty from the retailer (you do not, and, in most cases, cannot purchase an extended warranty from the distributor), make sure that it is included on your purchase receipt.
If you receive a warranty registration postcard or link from the distributor with the delivery of your chair, fill it out just to cover all your bases.
This would be a great place to mention that if you have a chair problem, and require warranty support, you ultimately must call the massage chair distributor to open a “ticket” for parts & service. You can call us for the right phone number or for any input on what your chair is doing wrong, but it is the distributor that takes care of the warranty support.
Once the factory and extended warranties have expired, you will still be covered by our own Peace of Mind Lifetime Labor Warranty. In the event that you have a problem with your chair at that time, you should give us a call but you will still call the distributor for diagnosis of the problem and for parts (again, contact us if you need a phone number to the distributor of your chair). Then, once you have the parts in hand, call Massage Chair Relief to get a tech sent out to do the work. That is how our Lifetime Labor Warranty works. Because you purchased a chair from us, you are automatically covered for that warranty. We just have to verify that you are one of our customers when you reach out to us.

If you have read any of my articles or watched any of my Massage Chair Industry Update videos in the past, you know that there are certain things that I consider my “pet peeves” in the massage chair industry. Topics like 4D vs. 3D massage chairs, chromotherapy, and no-name brand marketing tactics. Well, the subject of “FDA Approved” massage chairs is another one.
FDA & Medical Devices Background
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has specific grading standards and protocols in place to determine if a new medical device or product, that claims a health benefit, is a Class I, Class II, or Class III product and, thus, requires FDA approval of that product for the US marketplace and consumer. Of course, these grades and approvals are designed to make sure the products are safe and do not pose a potential danger or threat to the American consumer. They are in place to protect you and me.
According to www.fda.gov, examples of Class I devices present minimal potential harm to the user and include products like “enema kits and elastic bandages.” Examples of Class II devices include “powered wheelchairs and some pregnancy test kit” and have a higher risk. Class III devices usually sustain or support life, are implanted, or present potential unreasonable risk of illness or injury. They can include products like “implantable pacemakers and breast implants.”
95% of Class I devices are “exempt from the regulatory process” and, thus, do not require FDA approval. 10% of medical devices are considered Class III do require the FDA approval. 43% of medical devices fall under the Class II category. Some of them require FDA approval and some don’t.
What Does FDA Approval Entail?
Approval involves notifying the FDA with the intent to market a Class III and, in some cases, a Class II medical device. Those companies seeking approval must first submit a PreMarket Approval (PMA) application or 510(k). The FDA will determine if the medical device seeking approval is “substantially equivalent (as safe and effective) to a device already on the market.” If the device is considered “substantially equivalent”, then the manufacturer can market the device. If it is not, then the approval process continues.
Massage chairs are considered Class I devices, therefore they DO NOT require FDA approval. They do not require a PMA or 510(k) application. If you see any advertisement from any massage chair company that says “FDA Approved”, rest assured you are seeing a classic example of false advertising!!
FDA Approval vs. FDA Registration (a big difference!)
Now, let’s talk about “registration” of a product with the FDA, which is not an “approval” by the FDA. From what I got in my research (online search and phone conversation with an FDA medical device rep), any medical device can be registered by a manufacturer or a US rep for a foreign manufacturer. Registration is a simple process that involves divulging information about the company submitting the registration, submitting the products that are being registered, and an annual renewal fee.
I went through the www.fda.gov site and searched for massage chair company registrations. I saw Family Inada, Human Touch, Luraco Technologies, Infinity, and Osaki Titan as listed massage chair companies. I also saw the manufacturing plant for the Cozzia and Ogawa (and, I assume Fujimedic) massage chairs. So, from what I gathered by reviewing those registrations, either the US distributor of the massage chairs or a US contact person for a foreign manufacturing facility can register the medical devices.
The Bottom Line
The bottom line is this: there are no massage chairs that are FDA Approved for the simple reason that they are Class I medical devices and do not require FDA Approval to be marketed in the USA. However, massage chair companies can and do register their company and their medical devices with the FDA by paying a fee and renewing that fee annually. That DOES NOT mean their chairs are FDA Approved. They are quite simply just registered with the FDA. I would say it’s safe to say that most, if not all, massage chair companies in the USA are registered with the FDA. So, when you see a company state that it and it’s products are FDA registered, know that most are and it is nothing unique to that company or products.
So, if you see an advertisement of a massage chair that says “FDA Approved”, just know that it is false advertising and completely misleading. Don’t be afraid to call out companies that do that! Also, if you see an advertisement of a massage that says “FDA Registered”, know that most, if not all, already are. If you doubt the veracity of their claim, just ask for their registration number and you can look it up on www.fda.gov.

If you have followed my Massage Chair Industry Update videos for any amount of time, you know that I have some pet peeves about my industry that I believe need to be resolved before we have optimal credibility among our customer base. One of my pet peeves has been, and will continue to be, fake massage chair reviews.
Are Reviews Important?
For most customers, reviews play a critical role in the decision making process. Have you checked out reviews before purchasing a product, massage chair or not? Of course you have. The consumer trusts the reviews implicitly. I also used to trust the reviews I read. Well, I learned in this industry that fake reviews are rampant and they are influencing how you spend your hard earned money. The interesting thing is that you most likely have no idea if a review is real or fake or paid.
I’d like to give you a dramatic example of how important customer reviews are to product retailers. This story was relayed to us by one of our customers. This customer purchased a chair from us after having left a small deposit on a chair from another massage chair company that imports and carries it’s own brand of chairs. After having paid the deposit, this customer decided to do an online search of the company to which she was about to pay thousands of dollars.
A Perfect Massage Chair? No Such A Thing!
Her search led her to a bunch of reviews about the company and their chairs. Review after review touted how great the chair was. She didn’t find one negative review about the chair or the company. Every model, and every feature, were perfect. That was her first red flag. I have to agree with her. I sell some of the finest massage chairs in the world, like Inada, Panasonic, and Luraco and I have yet to find a chair that pleases everyone! Most folks love their chairs but, if you read our reviews, you will see that there is not one chair that pleases everyone 100%. There is always one thing that the customer doesn’t like about their chair or wishes it had. Since I started Massage Chair Relief in 2004, I have learned that there isn’t a chair that makes everyone happy all the time.
Fake Reviews = Red Flag
Well, this red flag motivated my customer to look further into the subject of product reviews and how legitimate or trustworthy they really are. She found out that there are companies out there that will write fake reviews that look real as though they are written by real customers. This ploy is done to boost review ratings on a site like Amazon or Yelp. Her search also led to FakeSpot, a free app designed to grade reviews and let you know what percentage of reviews of a product on Amazon and Yelp are perceived as fake or paid. It also gives the product and company a letter grade. I don’t know how the app actually does what it does or what it’s algorithm involves, but I’ve tested it and seen how well it works.
She was shocked to find that 97% of the reviews of the company and it’s chairs, from which she was about to commit thousands of dollars, were either fake or paid and that they were graded an F!
What Will A Retailer Do To Prevent A Negative Review?
Here is where the story gets good! Once my customer decided that she didn’t trust the company that sold her the chair, she called to cancel her order and get her deposit back. The company tried to tell her that her deposit was non-refundable, although that was never mentioned to her when she originally paid it. The conversation led to an argument because the rep claimed he had told our customer that the deposit was non-refundable at the time of the order. Our customer did not recall that at all (by the way, the deposit was only $100, a relatively small amount compared to the $8000 price tag of the chair). He told her that it was “[her] word against his.” The rep went on to say that if the customer wrote a bad review, that “you’d be sorry”, which our customer felt was some form of a threat. She eventually got her deposit back.
But, wait, there’s more! Our customer actually did decide to write a review on Yelp sharing her experience. Shortly thereafter she received a call from Yelp saying that someone had contacted Yelp to tell them that our customer was basically a shill from another massage chair company trying to destroy this company’s reputation by writing a negative review. They called her to find out if it was true. Of course it wasn’t.
Here’s the kicker…someone from the company eventually called her to apologize for all the hassle and offered her a free chair if she would just remove her negative review. That didn’t help the situation at all for our customer. It infuriated her even more because she felt that the company was trying to censor her real life experience and manipulate the review results.
I share this example to demonstrate how important reviews are not only to you the consumer, but to us the retailers. But, we need to encourage and appreciate truthful reviews and deal with the negative ones in a positive way. During my 14 years in this business, we have received a few negative reviews which, quite frankly, actually led to corrective measures in my company to prevent those issues from ever happening again. The lesson for businesses from this experience is: rather than deny accountability and coerce the consumer to remove their review, listen and learn and make the changes in your company to never receive that type of review again.
I just read an interesting news article discussing how the FTC is cracking down on fake and paid reviews to protect the consumer. Good stuff!
People are looking for new ways to deal with physical problems. The truth of the matter is that we have to figure out the cause of these problems. Rare genetic mutations may be a very big reason for the extreme problems, and the truth of the matter is that we need to keep that reality in mind. If people don’t look at these mutations, then they won’t be able to get to the root cause of many kinds of physical issues.
Physical problem sensitivity is something that we all have to deal with as it can make it very difficult to walk.
Physical sensitivity can make it harder for people to do basic things like writing as well. This also makes it harder to type.
People want to be able to find a way to make sure that they can get everything set up and try to find a way to make sure that they can manage all the medical accounts that are tied to physical problem management.
“One such area of research is congenital hypoalgesia, an inherited disorder which causes patients to have a severely reduced capacity to detect damage to their body that would usually cause extreme pain, such as biting off fingertips, lips and the tongue, and frequent bone fractures. Patients with such pain insensitivity are being assessed in the hope of identifying novel analgesic drug targets.”
The fight or flight response initiated in response to stressors in our lives is not suited for the modern lifestyles of most people. The stress we experience is normally not able to be resolved by fighting or fleeing. This results in constant stress reactions in our bodies that can have very detrimental effects. Chronic stress can influence symptoms of chronic disease such as diabetes and asthma as well as causing separate negative reactions such as gastrointestinal symptoms, fatigue, insomnia, weight gain, and many other possible symptoms. The solution is to find coping strategies to deal with stress and realizing each person is different. Each one of us must find the coping skills suited to our individual needs. The article goes into detail and provides an excellent description of analyzing individual stressors and developing appropriate strategies.
Stress has numerous triggers from including financial, work related, family related, and performance related worries. We often try to ignore stress and can overlook its effects on our health.
Stress occurs when we are required to adapt to changes in our surroundings. It releases hormones to help you protect yourself from danger. When we’re not in physical danger stress stays internalized.
Stress can aggravate conditions like asthma or cause them like headaches, and depression. Chronic stress can affect diet, appetite, and weight, poor sleep patterns, pain, and blood pressure.
“Feeling stressed can aggravate symptoms of asthma or diabetes, but it can also trigger other issues like headaches, depression or anxiety.”
Health officials and professionals are increasingly warning of the negative overall health consequences that result from spending too much time in a seated position every day, as most individuals working in office settings are prone to do. One common consequence of sitting is poor posture, which can lead to negative side effects of its own, including symptoms of chronic pain. Data shows that the majority of chronic pain sufferers also hold jobs that require them to stay seated throughout the day.
According to leading health officials, having a desk job could be destroying your posture and causing you significant back pain.
Even people with more physically active jobs who do not sit at a desk or computer experience work-related upper back and shoulder pain.
Even if you exercise regularly, prolonged sitting at your job can be detrimental to your health and well-being.
“Five out of ten patients suffer from joint pain caused by long hours of sitting in front of computer or other work related incorrect postures, says a top health official.”
Individuals suffering from debilitating, disruptive, and stubborn chronic pain are increasingly finding a respite in the Chinese art of acupressure. The theoretical base of the treatment puts forth that all human bodies encompass meridians, through which channels of certain energies flow. Acupressure works to target these meridians and ensure their optimal functioning. When it comes to alleviating pain symptoms, certain acupressure locations are of more importance than others. These include the center of the forehead, the pericardium, and the tops of the ears, among others.
For headaches, massage the hand between the thumb and index finger for a few minutes
Due to multitasking and stress one may feel pain the middle of the head, simply press your middle finger between your eyebrows for relief
Massage of the sacral points above the tailbone can relieve menstrual cramps and back pain
“Acupressure involves use of fingers, palms or elbows to apply pressure on the meridians, and massaging them in order to rejuvenate the energy.”
Bowen Therapy is similiar to getting a massage done. People go in for their appointment and then the Dr asks them where they are having issues and then they use different rolling moves that are performed at different pressures, speeds, and directions. The appointment lasts for about 45 minutes to an hour. Between each set of moves the Dr is performing the Dr will leave the room. This is so the body can integrate the effects of each set of moves.
Bowen Therapy is a holistic procedure that consists of performing rolling moves at different pressures and speeds on small areas of the body
These rolling movements trigger the brain to let go of tension, emotions, and stress
Each treatment will involve lying down for 45 minutes to one hour as the therapist works the body with frequent breaks
“As well as neck and back pain, migraines and their body’s alignment – the common complaints of a desk-bound office worker – Bowen can help treat issues in their joints, respiratory and digestive systems, as well as fertility issues.”
It makes a lot of sense to avoid stress and anxiety if people can do so. The stress and anxiety can cause larger health issues for them in the future. People want to try to be able to sleep in the future. They are going to deal with larger health related issues if they do not get to sleep at the right times. People have to be able to find a way to make smart decisions as many times a day in order to avoid major healthcare issues.
Stress and anxiety can trigger chronic pain, which is why it is so important to work to resolve one’s stress as much as possible.
Poor sleeping habits are linked to chronic pain, which is why it is critical to maintain a healthy sleep routine.
Inflammatory foods such as those containing caffeine, gluten, and MSG can all contribute to chronic pain.
“Chronic pain affects a massive number of people. In fact, according to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, it affects more Americans than diabetes, heart disease, and cancer combined, and is the most common cause of long-term disability.”
Modern technology has created a very precarious situation for those people interested in preserving the health of their spine. When we are using our smartphones it is almost ‘natural’ to create a rounded shape with our spine that arcs our backs in a way that is unnatural. We are furthering the damage to our backs by sitting hunched over day in and day out. While at work especially, it is important to remain aware of what our bodies are doing, and straighten our backs to further the health of our backs.
If yoga class isn’t someone’s thing but they still want to reap the benefits, there are poses they can do right in the hone or office to alleviate pain in their shoulders, neck, and back.
According to New York City yoga instructor Deborah Wolk, people can correct poor posture and a bent upper spine that comes from handheld device use by practicing simple yoga poses.
In addition to yoga, limit the time spent in any one position, including on the phone, reading a book, or typing.
“While the public appetite for essays reflecting on what all this phone time means to our relationships and social lives has been exhausted (because really, what can we do but adapt?), far fewer words have been dedicated to what it has done to our skeletal architecture, and specifically the health and strength of our necks and upper spines.”
Back pain is best dealt with using old-fashioned treatments. Smartphone apps that claim to treat ailments have been proven ineffective from a recent study from the University of Sydney showing it is still best to see professionals. The treatments suggested by mobile apps are unregulated and quality of information quite low. None have been tested to gauge effectiveness and lack customizable features that would be needed for individual treatment. App developers need to work closer with healthcare professionals in the future to produce more effective apps.
Apps that claim to help treat back pain proved to be less effective than seeing a medical professional
Researchers reviewed 61 apps finding that many provided questionable content with no benefit to patients
Experts suggest that developers work closer with healthcare professionals to improve the apps
“Though the majority of the apps used guidelines suggested by Australia’s top health officials, the quality of the information shared by developers were low, in general.”
Many are aware of the “S” shape in the human spine. Because of evolution from walking on all fours to an upright position this curve was created as a result of the transformation. This curve in the spine which helps to support the upper body in an upright fashion however was not originally designed this way and creates undue pressure on the lower back and spine. This pressure may cause lower back pain in aging results that at times can be very painful.
Back pain can have a variety of causes but the most common are muscular strain, disc prolapse, or a combination of both conditions.
The good news is that up to 90 percent of acute back pain resolves itself within six weeks, with or without treatment.
Should one’s back suddenly give out, try over-the-counter anti-inflammatories such as ibuprofen and a heating pad to relieve the pain.
“Having evolved from ancestors that once walked on all fours, when we moved on to just two legs our large heads then had to balance precariously on rather ill-equipped apparatus.”
When people think of back pain, mostly they think of muscle or ligament strains, arthritis, herniated disks…but the culprit could be sacroiliac joint dysfunction. It usually causes pain on one side of the back and radiates down the leg. People’s SI joint serves as shock absorbers for the middle of their bodies, and patients normally complain of SI joint pain with standing or first standing up from lying down. People who exercise less are affected more often, as is having a swayback posture. In order to treat this, doctors recommend performing core exercises to take pressure off their backs. Surgery is generally only recommended in rare cases, such as after a fracture.
While back pain is associated with ligaments and arthritis, an unexpected cause can be what is called sacroiliac joint dysfunction
Sacroiliac joint dysfunction will result in lower back pain that radiates through the thigh, groin, and foot
Sacroiliac joint surgery is turned to only in rare cases, and physical activity is the usual recommendation for relief
“If it turns out that a sacroiliac joint is responsible, Flechtenmacher recommends exercise: “The most important thing is to strengthen one’s abdominal muscles in order to take pressure off their backs.””
Very few people ever spend much time thinking about their postures, despite the importance it plays in the overall well being of the body and mind. Postures will often vary from one individual to the next, but there are some ways of standing that are proven to be harmful in the long term. It is important to take notice of one’s own form and determine whether adjustments must be made in the interest of one’s own health. There are day-to-day habits that impact our postures, and some may require changes accordingly.
Posture varies from person to person, however, there are definitely some stances that can lead to poor patterns of movement and pain.
If one does have a posture problem, it’s important to figure out what may be causing it, in order to address it correctly.
Posture problems can be caused by muscle imbalances, overtraining in the gym, or wearing high heels, to name just a few.
“Our bodies on which we depend for a lifetime of service are seldom taken for check-ups until they’ve almost broken down.”
Last month, Masaka Hospital began hosting Chinese doctors who specialize in acupuncture, a traditional Chinese medical treatment. Practiced for many years, the procedure involves stimulating specific points on the body by inserting needles through the skin. Research has shown that this can reduce nausea, vomiting, correct neck problems, fatigue, and chronic headaches. It can be used in place of surgery and carries fewer risks. Acupuncture is even claimed to improve pregnancy chances as it increases blood flow to the uterus and used as an alternative to in-vitro fertilization.
Research shows acupuncture reduces nausea and vomiting after surgery and may aid the activity of the body’s pain killing chemicals
The therapy can keep a person looking young, with wrinkles on the face improving with time
Cupping is also used as part of acupuncture treatment, which helps stimulates the body’s natural energy
“Physicians also say acupuncture is useful in correcting problems of the neck, shoulders, nerve problems, fatigue, back pain, osteoarthritis, and chronic headache, among others.”
There is a definitive link between high levels of stress and new or exacerbated symptoms of back pain. If the pain in someone’s back is severe enough to disrupt their ability to fall or stay asleep, then common knowledge dictates that it is likely linked to stress. Unfortunately, inadequate sleep is a cause of stress in and of itself. In order to combat this destructive cycle, patients should seek out natural supplements to improve their sleep. During waking hours, patients should practice mindful breathing.
If the pain in someone’s back is so severe as to disrupt their sleep cycle, then the pain is likely linked to stress.
patients should seek out natural supplements and find dosages and combinations that work for them to improve their sleep.
During their waking hours, patients should practice mindful breathing in order to minimize the harmful presence of stress
“Stress plays a huge role in not only causing back pain, but even managing back pain.”
There are many who are aware of the effects of different types of cancer and the pain the body can be in from this dreadful disease. Appointment after appointment, chiropractors and pain medication all seem to fit in somewhere many would say. There is an alternative being suggested here. Acupuncture techniques have been around for centuries with many published results. This article provides a clear unbiased look at this pain reducing techniques and the clinical results derived from treatments of patients and considerations of this remedy being used more frequently.
Through 39 clinical trials researchers were able to determine that pain relief obtained through acupuncture continued over time with only a 15% decrease in effect after one year.
Researchers were also able to determine that a placebo effect was not a factor in acupuncture treatment.
Due to the quality evidence produced through modern research acupuncture has become a recommended clinical guideline treatment for back pain.
“Acupuncture is effective for the alleviation of musculoskeletal pain, headaches, shoulder pain, and arthritis related pain.”
Chronic pain is no joke. Losing sleep over the fact is no laughing matter either , as it leads to numerous and serious health conditions in as little as three weeks. There are some things people can do to help relieve the stress of pain. Make sure to eat a healthy diet, avoiding processed foods, refined sugars and processed grains, as they are generally unhealthy and contribute to inflammation. Let’s get physical is not just a song, it is an effective tool in relieving stress and pain. Finally meditation can improve things drastically by helping to manage the mental stress caused by chronic pain.
According to a Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine study, there is a correlation between stress due to pain and insomnia.
If people want to get a good night’s sleep and prevent insomnia, it’s important to address any pain they may be feeling in their back, neck and other areas.
One way to reduce physical pain is to avoid being sedentary and focus on improving one’s mobility, which has been shown to ease some symptoms of pain.
“Sleep disturbance due to pain is not an innocent event; try to manage the stress, but seek help from a professional if one can’t soothe the pain and increase one’s sleep within three weeks.”
Many factors contribute to back pain, and for those who are suffering through the pain of an aching back, alleviating some of the pressure is important, since back pain can affect someone’s quality of life in many ways. People can prevent back pain if it is not already bringing them down, but if it is already affecting their lives, there’s numerous ways to cope with the pain that they feel, including by using exercise and toning techniques, releasing the endorphins, and getting proper sleep.
know what causes back pain and how to avoid those triggers.
get enough exercise, it strengthens core muscles and releases endorphins that block pain
Get enough sleep, it is during sleep rhythms that the body repairs itself
“For many of us, back pain is something that we’ve just learned to live with. However, there is relief in sight!”
It’s holiday time and that means baking and other treats from the oven. Cookies are the regulation dessert to make, decorate, and share and there are so many good ones to choose from, it’s hard to find a specialty. In the ultimate cookie list, one will find caramel squares, traditional chocolate chip, cookies with fruit and others with Nutella. Peppermint is also the flavor of the season and can be made as its own cookie or sprinkled on for flavor. One is bound to find a favorite for everyone on one’s list.
Sleeping in a neutral position of the spine on one’s back can reduce pain
It will take time to adjust to sleeping on one’s back and one must be patient–it will become more comfortable
Maintaining the right and natural curvatures of the spine has significant impact to holistic health outcome
“Sleep is when the body heals and grows. Sleep is when the body has the opportunity to offset or externalize stress. If one tosses and turns all night, one carries accumulated stress into the next day, weeks, months and years ahead.”
Fallen arches is a condition that is quite common and can cause a variety of physical ailments including back and hip pain. There are quite a few causes of fallen arches which often occurs when the ligaments holding the feet in the correct position loosen up and can’t maintain the correct position anymore. There are quite a few reasons that this might happen but incorrect footwear can be a major cause. There are some treatments for flat arches the newest most popular treatment is chiropractic care.
Many people don’t realize that a common foot problem, fallen arches, often can be the cause of another common problem, lower back pain.
Fallen arches can occur when the 100+ ligaments and muscles that stabilize the bones in the foot stretch too much and are no longer able to provide proper support.
Treatment for fallen arches can include NSAIDs, surgery, or non-invasive chiropractic care, which will address the whole body and any related risk factors.
“Recognizing the symptoms of fallen arches and knowing that one has a problem can help to prevent the pain but can also arrest further damage to the foot.”
It doesn’t matter what age the calendar says someone is, yoga is a forgiving and beneficial routine that anyone can do. In age, the body tends to have accumulated stresses and damage. And some people are using yoga for the very health reasons that have sprung up due to the aging cycle. While yoga will help these issues, injuries can occur more readily in older populations. Make sure one’s instructor is experienced and know the difference in types of yoga. Follow a few tips in the right practice and one will feel better, not injured, in a new regime.
Research suggests that practicing yoga, with its benefits for both mind and body, is key to aging well.
Many people don’t realize that 38 percent of yoga enthusiasts are over the age of 50.
While there are substantial benefits to yoga, individuals 65 and older are more susceptible to injuries from practicing.
“positive changes in biological markers of aging and stress in people who do yoga”
Stress affects every aspect of one’s life. It especially affects one’s physical health. Some stress can be good like the type of stress that motivates someone. The bad stress that causes one to worry can be very damaging to one’s physical health. Although stress may not cause one to have certain diseases they may definitely increase the severity of them. It is very important that one finds healthy coping mechanisms to deal with any stress.
Stress is a biological response that helps us get into fight or flight mode, but that mode is not helpful in every situation.
Chronic stress takes its toll on our bodies and minds more than we realized.
Each individual can create a way to mitigate stress and combat the negative effects.
“Although stress may not cause these problems, it can contribute to them.”
There is a new and less invasive treatment for chronic low back pain caused from a herniated disc. A CT machine guides a needle and probe into the effected area where a pinched nerve has not responded to traditional medical treatment. The probe gives electronic pulsations and promotes healing. The once pinched nerves have more room. Some patients respond very rapidly while others need a second treatment. The results lasted for up to a year and more invasive surgery is avoided.
A new study shows that a ten minute radio-frequency treatment can reduce and eliminate the pain caused by a herniated disk in the spine.
For most people suffering from this kind of back pain, the discomfort is gone in about six weeks, but 10% of sufferers need enhanced treatment.
The CT-guided pulsed radio-frequency treatment is less invasive as surgery.
“For 90 percent of people with back pain because of a herniated disk, symptoms will pass within 6 weeks. But for the remaining 10 percent, it is unlikely that current medical treatments alone will alleviate pain”
As a human being we are created very different and also extremely unique. We all experience problems within our flawed bodies, but lower back pains affect some people a lot worse than others. The strenuous activities and duties that we must do negatively affects our lower back region in fact causing pain. Although lower back pains seems to be incurable while going through the pain there are ways to effectively relieve lower back pain and live a happier life.
The greater the degree of curve in the lumbar, increases the amount of stress placed on the human back.
If one’s core muscles are weak, then back problems will be more persistent.
Most back pain issues will resolve naturally in under 6 weeks, but more severe cases will require care from a specialist.
“Most acute back pain (up to 90 per cent) will resolve within six weeks and most people will not need to be off work for more than a month.”
This article is all about acupressure. It tells the difference between acupressure and acupuncture in the beginning of the article, stating plainly that acupressure is simple applying pressure versus acupuncture which is breaking skin. It goes into details about how acupressure can be different for some people due to the varies pressure point. It also states how ancient the method is and how beneficial it can be. Lastly, it tells a compelling list of common pressure sites that can be used during this method
Useful in the areas of stress and pain alleviation, acupressure and acupuncture are healing methodologies that originated in China.
The systems foundational belief rests in the idea that there are 12 meridians in the human body, connecting all the inherent organs, and assisting in,maintaining body balance throughout.
To alleviate menstrual cramps and lower back pain it can help to massage the sacral points, which are located a few inches above the tailbone.
“The practice of acupressure involves use of fingers, palms or elbows to apply pressure on the meridians, and massaging them in order to rejuvenate the energy.”
This article talks about the stresses of the holiday season in which it then list ways as to how to survive it. The article talks about not over doing it as well as exercising to stay focused. Within the article is a list of cheap options to rejuvenate and stay on track during the holiday season in which it encourages readers to take advantage of. Overall, the article complies of tips that can keep someone ready for the season
Set a schedule for completing some of your holiday tasks, and delegate some of one’s tasks to others.
Regular exercise during the holiday season can reduce stress and help burn all the extra calories coming in with holiday eating.
If one is grieving the loss of a loved one, feel free to take the year off from the holiday.
“It can be difficult to maintain a healthy diet during the holidays, with holiday treats around every corner. While it’s OK to partake, don’t overdo and try to eat right the rest of the day.”
A sedentary lifestyle in a workplace leads to neck and back pain. The corporate culture of sitting at a workstation for extended periods of time has lead to employees physical aliments. Neck and back pain can be a serious consciences of sittinng in the same position for 8 hours a day. Based on the research, there seems to be long term consequences to a sedentary working environment. Regular breaks and exercise and needed for employees not to permanently damage their necks and backs.
Dr.Trebinjac works at a rehab center and finds that many of his chronic pain patients have desk-work jobs as a common feature.
Add in a tendency to not exercise with a sedentary job and the recipe for an unhealthy lifestyle is complete.
One corporate Wellness CEO found that almost seventy percent of his employees had at minimum one episode of neck pain within their last twelve months.
“The way one is sitting at one’s desk could lead to joint and muscle problems”

The holiday season is one of the most stressful times of the year. People face an increased amount of stress due to time restraints and obligations. As a result, people get less sleep, have less time to exercise, and eat more unhealthy food. During the holidays, there are five things that can help lessen stress and help people manage the holidays better than normal: sleep, do less, exercise, simply life, and just slow down. Using these tips, people have a better chance of getting through the holidays with stress taking less of a toll on one’s body.
Therapist, Cheryl Simmons, emphasizes that holiday stress management starts with managing one’s expectations and keeping them in check.
Learn to let things go when it becomes clear they will not be finished within the hoped-for time framework.
Simmons suggests making two lists, specifically the ‘must happen’ items and the ‘would be nice if they also happened too’ items.
“Holiday decorating, shopping and partying can all lead to less sleep, less exercise, and eating too much unhealthy food. Add to that the emotional overload of family visits and you have the perfect recipe for holiday stress.”
One person tried Bowen therapy and it changed their life. The modern malady spans everything from the physical to the mental. It is almost impossible to find a treatment that will aid each and every one of them. Bowen Therapy could be the right fit. Bowen Therapy is a very holistic technique that consists of many different rolling moves that are performed at different pressures and speeds and directions on very small areas of the body.
Holistic approach that treats different parts of the body and mind.
Treats mental, physical, and emotional stress. Also treats pains that cannot be fixed with modern standard medicine.
Treats pains such as headaches and also body aches from sitting along time at work.
“Put simply, Bowen initiates the healing response in the body”
Chronic pain is actually excessively common in Americans. The problem with chronic pain is that it is very difficult to diagnose and even more difficult to treat. Sometimes the only real treatment could be simply avoiding the triggers that seem to worsen the pain. For one thing, avoid anxiety and stress, since they can send people spinning in a cycle of sleepless and painful nights – which are clearly undesirable. Make sure they treat themselves to a proper amount of sleep every night. Temperature swings can be a trigger as well, but unfortunately there is not much we can do about that. Overexertion, whether in exercise or at work, can also increase people’s likelihood of triggering their pain. Lastly, there may be some inflammatory foods that trigger people’s pain attacks. These would be different for everyone, so there is no definitive list of foods to stay away from.
FIVE COMMON CAUSES OF CHRONIC BACK PAIN TRIGGERS AND WAYS TO AVOID THE TRIGGERS. ANXIETY AND STRESS, BAD SLEEPING HABITS, TEMP SWINGS, OVEREXHAUSTION, INFLAMMITORY FOODS
THERE ARE WAYS TO AVOID THE TRIGGERS OF CHRONIC BACK PAIN, AND EVERYONE SUFFERING SHOULD TALK TO THEIR DOCTER AND FIND WAYS TO AVOID THEM
MANY AMERICAN SUFFER FROM THIS, AND ITS HARD TO DIAGNOSE AND EVEN HARDER TO TREAT. AS WELL AS CRACKDOWN ON THE MEDICATIONS USED TO TREAT THIS AVOIDING TRIGGERS MAY REDUSE SOME PAIN AND PROBLEMS
“I’ve learned there’s a broad range of triggers that tend to apply to a lot of people, but also that chronic pain is a uniquely individualized problem”
All children at some point carry a backpack to school or events. Most carry them every day. Since kids’ skeletal system is growing rapidly, it’s important to make sure that backpacks are carried correctly. Make sure it’s the right size and weight for one’s child. Buy one with padded straps and ensure it’s snugly fit to the body for good posture. When packing it, make sure the heavier items are going to be carried closer to the child’s back to keep the center of gravity balanced and avoiding strain.
Childhood back pain has 2 mechanisms at work: posture and the increasing weight being carried inside of a backpack.
Choose a backpack that offers the best ergonomic benefits to your child and teach them to pack the heaviest items closes to their bodies.
Children shouldn’t carry more than 15% of their weight on the backs. If the load is heavier, communicate any concerns to the teacher to see what can be done.
“As a chiropractor one of the most common problems 1 see in my office are back pain, neck and shoulder pain, and headaches. Over the years it is not surprising that patients with these types of problems seem to be getting younger and younger. One of the most obvious reasons for early onset of neck and back pain is the increasing weight and size of children’s backpacks.”
A new therapy tested at the Sapienza University of Rome was able to relieve lower back pain in subjects who had herniated disc pain. The procedure is minimally invasive and involves a micro needle injected near the bulging disc. The needle houses a component that sends radiofrequency pulses to the nerves and muscles around the disc. The pulses change the nerve conductivity, leading to lessening of pain. After treatment, more than 80 percent of subjects were pain free and most remained so in followup.
A new radiofrequency therapy may relieve back pain from herniated discs, which is one of the most common causes of debilitating back pain.
The CT-guided procedure is minimally invasive, inserting a probe that delivers an electrical current to relax the muscles and correct the vertebral distance.
More research is needed to prove the radiofrequency therapy’s validity, and it still should be coupled with physical therapy for treatment.
“A group of researchers from Sapienza University in Italy believe they have found a solution to at least one form of debilitating back discomfort after their tests left the majority patients free of pain.”
A new treatment for the lower back pain associated with herniated discs has been successful in trials in Italy. Researchers at Sapienza University, Rome, used a pulsed radiofrequency probe to stimulate the muscles around the disc in a small study group. After only ten minutes of treatment, more than 80 percent of subjects were pain free and remained so after follow up. The probe is encased in a micro needle providing minimally invasive treatment for this common pain disorder.
Inflammation and pain go away sand the distance between vertebrae returns to normal
The pulsations do not touch the disc and heal the herniation.
One single treatment of no longer than 10 minutes helped 80% of the patients treated.
“Researchers found that the majority of patients were pain free after receiving the new image-guided pulsed radiofrequency treatment for low back pain and sciatica for just 10 minutes.”
Is there a link between physical pain and emotional pain? According to researchers at the University of Kentucky, there certainly is. Furthermore, there studies show that the active ingredient found inside Tylenol, a brand name pain relieving medication, can help alleviate some of the signs of hurt emotions. The original study was published in Psychological Science in 2010 but since that time, many studies have backed this one and provided the same amazing results for those with hurt feelings.
Reduces experienced emotional pain caused by others in individuals taking Acetaminophen
Reduces personal criticism following mistakes made by individuals taking Acetaminophen
Not certain whether these results are positive or negative at this time.
“Through reducing our attention to the outside world, acetaminophen appears to nudge us into a more psychologically insulated state”
Back pain is a simple phrase but it encompasses a range of intensity and causes. It can come from damage to the upper or lower back, which is how it’s categorized by doctors. It can also be the product of other factors such as genetics and primary diseases like cancer. Acute back pain is short lived, in the order of three months. Anything longer is considered chronic and although both should be addressed, chronic pain should be taken seriously and in consultation with a doctor.
Back pain afflicts more than twenty five percent of all Americans, either occasionally or chronically.
Back pain often occurs when muscles or soft tissues in and around the spine are strained or damaged.
Age typically plays a role in back pain; as we age it becomes more likely to experience back pain.
“Work that requires lifting, pushing, pulling or twisting the spine can lead to back pain. Likewise, those who are just sitting at a desk all day may experience back pain due to poor posture.”
Taking a canabis tablet every day around 9am has changed a man named Jerry’s life and has greatly reduced his pain. This tablet is a more natural and better way to help treat pain than am opioid pill. Opioid addiction kills millions of Americans each year amd this would be a great alternative to introduce to millions of other people suffering from pain. It could save a lot of lifes and prevent a lot of opioid addictions.
The rising prominence of the opioid epidemic in America has prompted many to turn to alternatives for pain management.
Cannabis oil like Royal CBD’s capsules are providing pain relief for many who are hoping to avoid using addictive drugs to treat their medical issues.
Medical marijuana laws have enabled many new developments in how cannabis can be offered to patients beyond just smoking it.
“Alarmed by the epidemic of opioid abuse that has killed tens of thousands of Americans in recent years, medical professionals are rethinking how they treat pain.”
Choosing a physical therapy who has the expertise to ail the back to good health is an imperative part of the rehabilitation process. Some physical therapists are eager to see that they make a full recovery in as short a time as possible and those are the professionals that they should work with. Use these details to find that physical therapist who will go above and beyond to take one back to the best health possible.
A common recommendation physical therapists suggest is to focus general exercises on strengthening one’s core.
It’s important to meet with a physical therapist and to agree on a timeline for how one’s recovery should progress.
The therapist should have specific experience with one’s particular issue, and be familiar with techniques for treating it.
“One wants to make sure that one’s physical therapist has one’s best interest in mind, and that involves using one’s time wisely.”
Golf is a very popular sport in Florida, especially during the Winter months. In the winder you will want to protect your golf cart from any weather. More than one third of the people that partake in this sport are over 50 years old and that means back pain is a common issue that they all have to deal with. It is true that normal aging and the usual wear and tear can cause back pain in people, but golf is one thing that can have a big impact on back pain as well.
While golf can be a good low impact source of exercise, it can still but strain on the back.
The twisting and body positions can often cause spine damage if the player’s posture isn’t good during the swing of the club.
Even with the potential for long term problems, staying active is better than giving up exercise.
“Treatments for facet joint issues may include a course of spine-specific physical therapy, medication, injection therapy, or minimally invasive surgical intervention as a last resort”
It can be the little things that add up to back pain. Long periods of inactivity, such as when one sleeps, can cause the spine to settle. The discs can even bloat up some, so it’s critical to move with care when one first gets up. When sitting or driving, use proper posture to avoid straining muscles and joints. And when lifting heavy weights, don’t use the back to move the mass. And the newest problem; don’t scrunch the neck down while staring at a phone.
When one sleeps, the spine settles and bloats a little; moving quickly after first getting up can cause injury.
Bad posture even while standing passively to do simple tasks can put stress on the back.
Sitting slumped in a chair or hunched behind the wheel of a car as a habit often leads to back problems.
“Bending one’s head over a tablet or phone strains the neck muscles,” says Sammy. Studies show that for every inch the head is angled forward, 4.5 kgs is added to its weight (and the average head weighs 5 kgs). So, if one bends the head three inches that puts about 19 kgs of load on the neck — increasing the risk of injury”
For people who have to drive long distances and have chronic back pain, there are several things they can do to reduce the discomfort behind the wheel. These people could invest in a ventilated foam seat cushion, lumbar support and a heated seat cover. The latter helps relieve muscle spasms. Driving an automatic transmission and using cruise control can reduce pressure on their lumbar and distribute their weight more evenly. It’s also good to sit upright and keep the seat closer to the pedals.
While people might be working to avoid long periods of sitting, that’s hard when they’ve got a long drive ahead.
Invest in seat cushions that not only supports their body, but allow it to breathe, while they’re on the road.
Technology can help; utilize cruise control and automatic transmissions to allow them greater flexibility behind the wheel.
“Thousands of people deal with chronic back pain every day and sitting for extended lengths of time can exacerbate it.”
Aerial Yoga may help heal one’s body from emotional trauma as well as physical pain. Originating in the circus arts aerial yoga is practiced on a hammock that hangs from the ceiling. According to Stephanye Evans an aerial yoga specialist there are certain triggers associated with traditional yoga poses while aerial yoga gives more privacy allowing survivors of trauma the ability to disassociate from their bodies as a protection method. Classes are also offered to veterans suffering from PTSD. The suspended poses have many physical benefits for one’s nervous system which helps those whose nervous system is in disarray.
Aerial yoga offers the benefits of traditional yoga, but with less stress on the body.
Aerial yoga offers a lot of flexibility to the traditional yoga poses that staying on the ground doesn’t.
Many adherents of aerial yoga find it relaxing and safe to be cocooned inside the hammock.
“While traditional yoga poses are performed on a mat on the floor, aerial yoga is practiced on a silk hammock that hangs from the ceiling”
There’s a new treatment for muscle pain that involves a system called dry needling. It works by inserting needles into what is known as a trigger point which is a painful knot type sensation in the muscle and fascia. Although it seems similar to acupuncture, it does not target meridians but instead releases tension directly in the pained area. The treatment can be painful like massaging a knot would be, but the results seem to indicate it’s fast acting. Research suggests it’s good for headaches, and multiple areas of pain on neck and back.
Acupuncture and dry needling seem similar, but the later is a modern treatment rather than an ancient technique.
Dry needling focuses on inserting and manipulating needles directly into knots of muscle tension, rather than acupuncture points.
With dry needling, physiotherapists manipulate these areas of muscle tension to relieve stress and pressure.
“By the next morning, it was a nagging ache, and eventually, the headaches were gone – from just one session.”
Most of us know smoking, poor diet, and heavy drinking can cause serious health effects. Not as many people are aware that long periods of sitting, especially as a habit, can be just as damaging to the human body. Humanity was not designed by nature to be sitters, yet in the modern era we spend an ever increasing amount of time planted in chairs. Some exercise can help blunt the health effects, especially some small but regular stretch or brief walk breaks.
The human body is designed for activity, not sitting; long stretches seated can cause serious physical problems.
The inactivity of sitting drops one’s metabolism, and the lower energy level can lead to heart and cardiovascular issues.
Poor posture while seated can often lead to pain in the neck and back as your spine is slowly damaged over time.
“Though people may do some physical activity in the morning, but they too are not out of danger if they sit for long time.”
Cycling is both fun and also stellar exercise. But people can actually overextend the neck and create stiffness in the tendons when riding for long periods. People will want to raise the handlebars to prevent this. Make sure the angle of elbow to hand is correct, with a slight bend to ease pressure on neck muscles. It’s common on some bikes to ride with the head tilted backwards which fatigues the trapezius muscle forcing it to be sole support for the head. Take the time to adjust the handlebar properly for a pain free ride.
The neck is the spine, and the muscles surrounding it, that support and direct the head.
When riding a bike, the neck is often extended and tilted in abnormal ways that can cause physical stress.
To avoid neck pain while riding, make sure people change hand and body positions regularly to ease the stress.
“Over time, cyclists can develop stiffness and pain in the upper trapezius and neck muscles.”
4 M’s that can help lower pain levels are mindfulness, magnets, massage, and music. Mindfulness helps with pain by helping to think about what’s happening now instead of the pain that has happened in the past. Meditation is a form of mindfulness. Massages help by targeting area of pain to help lower it. Music helps the brain and also copes with certain moods a person might be feeling. Magnets help improve blood flow and helps treat ailments.
Being mindful is about staying aware of what people are experiencing, rather than pulling back from it, so they can manage it.
Magnet therapy is an ancient technique, and is both cheap and almost effortless; simply wear something magnetic.
Music can soothe and stimulate, and is an excellent method of managing sensations that could otherwise be overwhelming.
“My massage therapist told me that even a single massage session has been shown to significantly lower heart rate, cortisol and insulin levels — which reduce stress.”
It turns out that stress and obesity both go hand in hand. Work related stress is leading to obesity problems all across the country. People are trying to cope with tough deadlines and in order to deal with this, they are turning to food in order to make them feel more calm. Short term stress does not cause this issue, long term stress does. If one experiences short term stress, then one will not have an appetite.
Medical professionals say stress, from any source, is a common cause for weight gain.
Hormones, which are affected by high stress, can be further manipulated by certain foods; which can lead to relying on them to feel better.
Doctors continue to teach the best way to deal with both stress and weight gain is exercise and a healthy diet.
“In order to cope with tough deadlines and competitive environments, more and more people are resorting to foods like ice creams and chocolates”
Holiday exercise can help to reduce stress in someone’s life. November and December are the times of year when people throw their exercise routines to the wind. They start to buy presents for people and put together parties and make tons of good food and this can make exercise seem like a thing of the past. But, exercise can do a lot for people and help them get rid of some of that holiday stress.
Taking time out during a busy holiday schedule to exercise can keep one relaxed and recharged.
Treating oneself can be indulgent and fun, but set limits so one can keep from letting guilt overwhelm someone.
Stick to one’s health and weight loss goals so one doesn’t reach the New Year struggling to recover lost progress.
“Balance is key when it comes to the holidays. Too much of anything, whether presents or food, can become problematic.”
A lot of people are experiencing what is known as a holiday hangover. Thankfully, there is a way to bounce back from all of the food and booze and emotional stress that the holidays bring with them. The holidays are filled with foods that are very high in sodium. If someone has too much sodium in a meal, it can make the heart work harder. The next day, people should cut their sodium intake in half and drink plenty of water.
High levels of salt intake can cause health problems, both temporary and long term, so keep an eye on what’s in the food.
Sugary treats are sweet, but they load people up with empty calories and can cause the dreaded sugar crash afterwards.
Christmas cocktails can be a tradition, but over indulging can cause a headache when the alcohol dehydrates people.
“Whether someone is a sucker for the dessert table or spends the holidays dodging underhanded insults from their mother-in-law, stash these tricks in the holiday survival toolkit.”
Low back pain is something that has been commonly treated at the doctors for quite some time. Now, if people visit the doctor, they might be surprised to see what has changed. Instead of prescribing the usual pain medications, doctors are now turning to alternative strategies such as yoga, mindfulness and various other types of treatment for their lower back pain. This is due to research indicating that the pain medications are not working as effectively as intended and due to our recent opioid crisis. Alternatives to opiods are often the best choice for people suffering long term. A change in the culture regarding this is truly needed.
Treatment regimens for lower back pain have changed quite a bit in the last few years.
Doctors now suggest yoga, mindfulness, and therapy instead of opioid pain medications or invasive procedures.
Though these treatments may prove helpful and affective for many, the cost of these therapies may negatively affect some patients.
“If people visit their family doctor with low back pain (LBP), they may be surprised at the treatment options they suggest now.”
Research has shown that back pain is a greater economic health burden than cancer, heart disease and diabetes combined. On top of that, back pain is the most common source of pain that effects eight out of ten of us during our lifetimes. Back pain can be split into two groups: non-specific back pain and mechanical back pain. Mechanical back pain is caused by the movements of the spine, whereas non-specific back pain has no known root cause.
People can have back pain that is non specific. That means that people just hurt but cannot attribute the pain to any one thing.
Pain triggered by movements of the spine is considered mechanical back pain.
Walk at least twenty minutes a day and this will do wonders for the back! Try to walk hard enough to elevate one’s heart rate and breathing
“One that the best (and cheapest ways) to prevent back pain that he tells his patients is to simply walk at least 20 minutes a day.”
For people who stand on their feet all day, back pain can be a major problem. These people probably suffer from a constant aching pain radiating from their low back. Long hours on their feet can cause muscle tissue to tighten and become compressed. Low back pain is a growing complaint of many in the health care profession. Luckily, there is an innovative and easy to use solution to their low back pain issues. Foam rollers can help relieve pain, improve recovery time, and decrease exercise related injuries. Adding 15 minutes of foam rolling into a daily routine can take low back pain out of the equation.
A foam roller can be used for self massage and self therapy to relieve tightness and tension in the back or elsewhere.
People want a high density foam roller, with a pleasant texture, so it will hold up during the workout.
Pain in the back can radiate toward the spine from other areas of the body, so their workouts should target more than just the spine to get the most relief.
“Here, I’ve rounded up three videos that will show people how to use a foam roller to reduce or eliminate back pain.”
Life can take it’s toll on our backs. Long hours on our feet, plus the process of aging are key ingredients to creating an aching back. Older men are the hardest impacted by this radiating low back pain. People suffering from this condition are looking into alternative solutions to help relieve their symptoms. The American Chiropractic Association focuses on manual pressure to mobilize aching joints. Chiropractic care uses these techniques to manipulate the spine of those seeking relief from low back pain.
The American Chiropractic Association uses manipulation techniques to create greater mobility.
Those suffering from low back pain are seeking relief through alternative solutions.
Low back pain episodes are a common complaint of older gentlemen.
“Spinal manipulation (or adjustment), as described by the American Chiropractic Association, focuses on using manual pressure to mobilize joints.”
Researches at MIT have theorized that if people are stressed out they are more likely to make stupid choices. It is being suggested that if they have had a stressful day that they are more likely to make a bad choice versus a day when they weren’t under as much stress. The researches found this out after testing mice in a maze. The stressed subjects made bad decisions to get good rewards and the less stressed made good choices. This is how they think addictive personalities may work. The researches also found out they could make the mice more impulsive by triggering a circuit in the brain. Now they are wondering if they can make them less impulsive and do the same for humans.
Stress is often distracting, but new research confirms that the ability to make rational decisions is affected by it.
A scientific study used mice to explore their decision making while stressed or not, and found that under stress they made riskier choices.
The research also found certain neural pathways in the prefrontal cortex linked to impulse control were affected by stress.
“People who suffer from addiction, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder sometimes experience impulsiveness and difficulty making rational decisions.”
Getting injured or being in pain to begin with can be very uncomfortable. When seeking medical attention, hospitals can seem scary. Especially with all of the new technology and even the MRI’s. Sitting in a MRI can be disturbing and nerve racking. It’s oddly very quiet but not at the same time. It is a very painless procedure which can take a few minutes. Keeping a calm state of mind is key. Also, no metal objects are allowed in the MRI room, especially if they’re on or inside of someone.
If back pain continues to persist, it might be time for advanced diagnostic techniques such as the MRI scanner.
While the MRI scan itself is painless, patients must be very careful about their medical history; including if they’ve ever had metal implanted in their bodies.
Even though the MRI machine is loud and can be extremely distracting, it’s better than suffering through constant pain of an undiagnosed injury.
“Like thousands of Peterborians I suffer from backpain. For me, it’s a relatively new phenomenon brought on by foolish behaviour in an adventure playground.”
Stress is present in anyone, but women take it to heart more than men. Researchers have studied the relationship between obesity and life events in middle-aged or older women. These women were also researched depending on the type of stress from traumatic events or negative life events that have happened in the past. It showed that the women who had a least one traumatic event had at least a 11 percent increase in obesity compared to women with no traumatic events.
As women age it is natural to gain weight along the way. The hard part is maintaining the weight so one does not become over weight
The stress of family and work can cause weight gain. We have to monitor what goes in our mouths.
Being unemployed and being rejected for numerous jobs can cause a ice cream binge. It imperative to eat heaalthy snacks
“Women who experience more stress from major life events are at a higher risk of developing obesity than those who do not face any stressful events, a study has found.”
Keeping the relationship with one’s romantic significant other going can be difficult sometimes. Couples that stay together are often the ones who are willing to acknowledge there will be ups and downs, and that sometimes there will be things that have to be faced. Money is an obvious pitfall that pops up. Children are another. And both tend to be something that can get in the way of sex, one way or another. Therapists recommend communication as the key to staying connected and content.
Having children can cause strain on a relationship. It can become very stressful.
The majority of relationships become stressful because people stress wanting the relationship to work.
We must all learn to soothe things out. Accept one’s partner for who they are.
“The key lies in knowing which pitfalls commonly derail couples so that people and their significant others can prepare themselves to sail through them rather than abandon ship at the first sign of trouble.”
The holidays can bring stress, and food can pile atop the crush of events and family and social occasions to keep people’s tensions high. Avoiding excessive fat and sugar can help quite a bit, particularly since heavy foods can stay with people, and sugar inevitably leads to an energy crash once the rush of sweets wears off. Plan for some healthy options in and around the big event meals, such as cereals, whole fruits, or even some simple mashed potatoes to stay ready for a busy schedule.
A quick and easy, but substantial, snack when the holidays are keeping people busy is jam toast with egg.
Breakfast cereal is simple and a snap to dig into, at any time of day or night, while remaining filling.
Fruits and peanut butter can combine to provide fresh tastes and protein with next to no preparation required.
“While I’m slicing my fruit into equal-sized pieces, it’s nice to pretend for a hot second that cutting away responsibility from my life would be just as easy.”
Stress can manifest symptoms in many different ways. Some are less obvious than others, but they can all add up and make something tough that much harder to deal with. One in three Americans say stress is placing a burden on their daily health, both mentally as well as physically. Some stressed individuals will break out in hives, or experience ups and downs with their weight. Headaches are common, or difficulty concentrating. Stress is even something that can impact people’s immune system, making them susceptible to minor illnesses more frequently.
Stress can cause an outbreak of hives, or lead to weight fluxuations, both of which can create further stress.
Headaches and a tendency to come down with minor illnesses are a common side effect of being stressed.
Stress can lead to hair falling out, or even acne; but neither is permanent if stress levels can be reduced.
“Stress triggers the release of the hormone cortisol, which impairs one’s body’s ability to process blood sugar and changes the way one metabolizes fat, protein, and carbs, which can lead to weight gain or loss.”
Breastfeeding demands certain techniques and practice, and can be difficult to learn during the initial stages of getting to know one’s baby. Some new mothers experience muscular pain in the back and neck due to bad posture as they adjust to holding and positioning both themselves and their infant during breastfeeding. To minimize discomfort, sit with back support to ease lower back, and make sure the shoulders are back to avoid stress on the arms and upper back. Don’t hunch, and make sure one is not dropping the head awkwardly during breastfeeding to avoid neck pain.
Make sure one is sitting in a good, supportive position that protects one’s back while breastfeeding.
Keep one’s shoulders squared and back to avoid pain developing in one’s neck and upper back.
Avoid slouching or contorting when bringing the baby into nursing position, as this can lead to pain over time due to bad posture.
“mothers still endure neck and back pain that arises from nursing in hunched and awkward positions”
Case study reveals that being pregnant can be a real pain in the back. Hyperlordosis is the technical term for those suffering with lower back pain while pregnant. There are several pain management options available to helping cope with this condition. Doctors recommend such treatments as, osteopathic manipulation, physical therapy and even acupuncture. Maintaining an active lifestyle also brings a chance of relief for those suffering from hyperlordosis. This lumbar back pain can cause distress to many pregnant women. It is very important that they seek medical advice when dealing with hyperlordosis.
Pregnancy can induce many changes upon the female body, some of them discomforting or even painful.
Pain in the back or spine often causes patients to shift or move around awkwardly, which usually worsens the pain.
Focusing on maintaining good posture, even during mild back discomfort, can reduce the instances of severe spinal pain that occur.
“It has been postulated that there are two patterns of common back pain during pregnancy: lumbar pain (LP) and posterior pelvic pain.”
Exercise keeps people fit and healthy and feeling their best, but there’s even more reason to work-out if they have back pain. Anyone who’s ever experienced back pain can attest to the extreme pain that it brings, sometimes affecting a person’s quality of life. But, when people exercise, the back pain that they feel could be gone forever, or at a minimum less severe so that it does not impact their lives in such a negative manner.
when patients are given information about back pain, and they exercise, their chances of developing low back pain are reduced significantly.
exercises such as strengthening, stretching, and aerobics can lower the risk of developing low back pain.
exercise is a more effective deterrent to avoid back pain than other tactics such as specially designed mattresses or shoes.
“Compared to people who didn’t exercise, those who did were 33 percent less likely to develop low back pain, the analysis of data from 16 previously published studies found.”
It may not come as a surprise that chronic pain is one of the most common health concerns in America. With about 1 in 3 of Americans living with some form of pain whether chronic or severe, it’s certainly not hard to understand opioid dependencies and overdoses rising to an all time high. Even with pain being a common complaint amongst most patients most find it difficult to find relief. Some patients falling victim to the stigma portrayed by the media and skepticism from healthcare providers. This can leave patients feeling lost, upset, and even angry at the fact that they are misunderstood. It is often hard to comprehend the complexity and challenges of what someone with chronic pain go through every day. According to Cindy Steinberg, the national director of policy and advocacy at the U.S. Pain Foundation and chair of the Policy Council of the Massachusetts Pain Initiative, the media and politics have added to the hardship these patients face because they cannot find help. This has just compounded the issues caused by the widespread use OxyContin for pain. President Trump has also declared the opioid epidemic a public health emergency, and while no one disputes the dangers of the drug, these patients still need relief. Patients that do find a provider who will listen often find new hurdles from their insurance companies. Truthfully, patients will not find relief until the medical community truly becomes educated on the topic and these patients are heard and given alternatives that work.
high rate of over 100 million Americans with Chronic pain without proper treatment lead to increase overdoses and addictions to drugs like Opioids.
Opioid abuse now believed to be the greatest threat in drug epidemics in the history of the US, leading to deaths of about 33,000 in 2015.
Pain prescriptions not providing enough relief to the patients but still are #1 way, long term resolution requires individualized care that doctors cant provide or lack the knowledge or time to do so.
“Because of some healthcare workers’ attitudes toward opioids and media coverage of the opioid epidemic, when patients bring up the fact that they live with pain, they’re looked at with skepticism, questioned relentlessly, second-guessed, and judged.”
A new study on using pregabalin for chronic and acute sciatica has had some disappointing results. Previously indicated as a good treatment for neuropathic pain, the study found no decrease in symptoms and multiple side effects in using it for sciatica. The study was done on more than 200 patients, most of whom completed the study. In comparison to the placebo group, the pregabalin group saw no improvement in symptoms, leaving the drug out of the running for sciatica treatment.
Description of pregabalin’s use to combat various degrees of sciatica
pergabalin is shown to be a safe treatment when a test was conducted by an Australian trial
The article describes how the study was conducted and on what types of people
“Although previous research has found pregabalin to be effective against some types of neuropathic pain, this study suggests that pregabalin is not appropriate for the treatment of sciatica”
Back pain effects one in ten people and is a leading cause of missed work. Many try alternative treatments such as medication, chiropractic, physical therapy and the like. But now doctors are looking to provide spinal fusion surgery as an option when other treatments fail to relieve the pain. This can result in limited movement in some patients with a long lead time for healing. Artificial discs are now being created to replace the damaged discs similar to replacement knee or hip joints.
As people get older the discs in their backs can bulge and the spinal nerves compress
While past traditional fusion surgery resulted in limited successful movement, a new method developed at spine Surgery in Georgetown University Hospital in Washington DC appears to be more successful
The new method is to enter from the front then inserting a device that has a coating that bonds to the bone creating a new disc and allowing free movement
“In the past, fusion surgery was the only option, but that led to limited movement. Now surgeons and patients have a potentially huge new option for a pain-free life.”
People don’t have to wait for debilitating back pain to visit a chiropractor. These practitioners can help with a variety of needs particularly when looking for a holistic approach to health. The ability to re-align vertebrae and relax tense muscles makes chiropractic excellent for reducing stress. The straightening of the back also leads to better posture which can help with digestive disorders. Sometimes migraine and headache sufferers do better after a visit with them too. Even if people don’t have severe back pain, consider a chiropractor if they are in need of these health aides.
Visiting a chiropractor leads to decreased stress levels thanks to the release of tension from muscles, better circulation, and more
People’s gastro-intestinal health benefits from chiropractic work as well, and it will facilitate smoother digestion
Chiropractors can help to reduce frequency of headaches and migraines and lessen joint aches
“While chiropractors are typically known as doctors who heal back pain, I can attest—from personal experience—that chiropractors do that and so much more, addressing not only physical symptoms, but also the underlying issues contributing to any pain, illness or disease”
Pain in the back is one of the most frequent factors for why employees miss work across the world, and one of the most common causes of disability. Slouching and bending badly, prolonged sitting in an awkward position, can affect the spine quite a lot. These habits can increase how rapidly joints degrade and cause stress to rapidly accumulate. The issue can even lead to heart problems. A study in London over twenty years showed men who reported chronic bad posture or height loss had a nearly two-thirds greater chance of coronary disease.
One common cause for back pain may actually be poor posture. But one London study suggests that poor posture could have other effects.
Posture deviation may take place among men who commonly have poor posture. They might also experience height loss over the course of their lives.
These men were also at a higher risk of developing coronary heart disease too. The London study followed thousands of men over the course of 20 years.
“A London study followed 4,000 men for 20 years and found the men who experienced posture deviation and height loss had a 64 percent higher risk of developing coronary heart disease.”
Sleep is necessary, but just laying down and closing one’s eyes isn’t enough to ensure one gets good sleep every night. How one’s sleep, the body position one sleeps in, plays an important role. For those worried about lower back pain, there are some sleep positions that can alleviate the problem, according to Healthline. Curling up in a fetal position before drifting off, or arranging a pillow between the knees and laying on the side are their recommendations.
A proper night of sleep is crucial because it encourages the formation and retention of memories, as well as muscle development.
For those experiencing back pain, sleeping on one’s side helps because it creates more space between the vertebrae, which causes the spine to curve.
Studies have shown that many couples fight in bed due to poor sleep. Obtaining more rest by sleeping on the side may help to mitigate those instances.
“sleeping on one’s side with a pillow between the knees, or sleeping on the side in the fetal position, is pretty good for people.”
Everyone has to face aging. The body will begin to feel the pains and aches of sore joints eventually. Past medical procedures can begin to add up, as well as old injuries. For this reason, a former Wall Street worker has embraced increased physical activity in his 70s. He found age was taking a toll on his body, and embraced statistics that showed those 70 or older were often likely to live into their 80s. Since he wanted to make the best of those years, he added some exercise and activity to his routine.
Aging doesn’t mean one can’t get or stay active and enjoy the health benefits of exercise.
Working to maintain good physical health through activity can help one stay independent.
Some doctors recommend pain management medication, even marijuana, since it is important for patients to not stop exercising due to pain.
“every older adult, even the most gifted athlete, has at least one painful or tight issue to work around”
A hospital in Illinois offers free massages and other holistic treats for people who are dealing with. The massages have been found to greatly decrease the anxiety of patients staying at the hospital. The hospital has been giving these massages for 10 years. Reducing one’s stress will greatly improve one’s life and one’s health as well. Stress has been negative side effects that show up physically in the body as well as mentally in the mind.
The SwedishAmerican hospital has a holistic health team that helps patients deal with stress
Stress and anxiety are common for patients staying in a hospital
Hospital supervisors say that the free massages are very effective in managing patient anxiety
“If a long week at work has us feeling a little extra stressed, National Stress Awareness Day gives us another excuse to relax and unwind”
Considering that the majority of people own smartphone devices, and roughly one quarter of people suffer from one or more problems related to mental health each year, smartphone apps dedicated to mental wellness are growing increasingly popular and common. Recent studies have indicated that these apps can indeed have a positive impact on mental health. Three of the best apps include Headspace, which focuses on meditation practices for beginners; Soar: Tree of Life, which is a game designed to reduce stress and anxiety; and What’s Up?, an app that utilizes tenets of cognitive behavioral therapy to help users develop positive and healthy thought patterns.
Well-being apps that lead us to focus on taking time for ourselves really do help decrease stress.
Using guided meditation, the Headspace app offers 10 free lessons to help beginners learn the basics (and beyond) of meditation.
Soar is an inventive adventure game set on a color-depleted island. To relieve stress, players explore 7 levels, each designed to re-color the landscape while lowering blood pressure and heart rates.
“Learning to pay more attention to how we feel at certain moments throughout the day can really help when it comes to reducing stress.”
Being an adult is stressful and a lot of us adults don’t take stress seriously or the effect it has on our body. Stress can show up on the body through skin diseases and rashes. It also shows up in one’s digestive system causing constipation and diarrhea. People should never tell a person who is stressed to just relax because that never works. They should also never tell a person who is stressed that they have nothing to be stressed about.
Stress is an unavoidable part of modern 21st century life, and it’s something we often disregard as unimportant
Stress is significant enough to result in physical illness which consequently can be remedied by relieving stress
Paying attention to one’s diet, enforcing one’s own relaxation time and confiding in one’s friends are effective ways to manage stress until it passes
“The thing about stress is that those who struggle with it often don’t seem like the types to crumble. Indeed, as soon as someone tells someone else they’re stressed out, they’re often met with ‘but there’s nothing to be stressed about”
Did people know that its a fact that stress can actually kill them? It actually takes away people’s life force and weakens their bodies. Stress also messes with their digestion causing constipation and diarrhea. It can also give them unbalanced emotion and their hormones are all over the place. If anyone is at risk for type 2 diabetes, then stress is no good for their blood sugar because the body sends out more glucose to help fight the stress.
Stress raises one’s blood pressure and can increase one’s chance of a heart attack over time
Stress has been known to lower one’s sex drive over time
Stress can cause zit breakouts as well as prolonged headaches
“So learn to embrace it, manage it, and reduce it.”
Stress can not only negatively impact someone but it can also negatively impact their relationships. People need to make sure they are eating healthy foods and taking care of their bodies. These people also need to make sure they are dealing with their anger, because not dealing with one’s anger will only make stress worse. Reaching out to people and telling them about one’s stress can also help relieve some of one’s stress. Getting enough rest also helps.
It is good to stop and check in on oneself when feeling stress.
Hunger, tiredness, anger, and loneliness can all be causes of stress.
When people identify what is stressing them, they may avoid it in the future.
“Once people can recognize what their triggers and responses are, as well as how each HALT category exacerbates these, they are better suited to be a resource for themselves.”
According to Cosmo.com, there are 11 symptoms caused by stress. Today, people use the term stress casually, but real serious stress can cause physical symptoms. They include the following: 1. Feeling Tired 2. Teeth Grinding 3. Headaches 4. Dizziness 5. Irritable Bowels 6. Loss of Libido 7. Appetite Loss or Gain 8. Hair Loss 9. Getting Sick Easily 10. Increased Heart Rate 11. Dry Mouth. Once these symptoms are identified and one has confirmed they have stress, then they can start to address it.
Fatigue and headache without an obvious cause is often a sign of stress.
Stress can lead to being prone to illnesses, even problems in the bathroom.
Finding oneself easily excited, or suffering from a lack of interest in sex, is common for stressed people.
“As stress increases, this can lead to changes in breathing rate, which in turn can change the CO2 levels in the blood.”
Stress is something that we all feel to an extent, but should look to minimize from our lives as greatly as possible. When minimizing stress out of one’s life, it is imperative these seven habits are not overlooked. We do these things every single day, unaware that we are only causing added stress to our life. Looking for our phones and other lost items and sitting in rush hour traffics are just a few of those added stressors.
The pressures of commuting can cause an incredible amount of stress that never has a chance to dissipate.
Caffeine, especially toward the end of the day, can prevent the body from having a chance to relax and help one decompress.
Turning to alcohol or unneeded food might be a coping mechanism for some, but it’s bad for stress levels.
“According to Anna Whittaker, professor of behavioural medicine at the University of Birmingham, the main causes of stress are caused by major life events”
Heart disease used to be called the silent killer and while that may still be true in one respect, it’s taking a back seat to another, known as stress. Stress can lead to heart disease as well as a slew of other health issues like stroke, anxiety and myriad physical pains and ailments. When stress is causing illness it’s best to repair your health by eliminating the triggers. It’s important to look at the cause of stress in one’s life and set boundaries, but if it’s one’s work, it may well be time to move on.
Stress, such as from a high-pressure job, can cause serious physical problems.
Stress from either real danger, or just normal job or social concerns, tend to be reacted to by the body and brain similarly.
Work to try and determine the source of one’s stress, and use that knowledge to deal with it calmly to reduce physical impacts.
“If stress at work is causing someone real, physical pain, and they feel strongly it will continue despite their best efforts, it might be time to go.”
Bad skin conditions are not only the result of bad genes, they are also the result of stress. The mind and skin have a lot to do with each other. This is because stress releases stress hormones that show up in the skin. Stress can also make the skin age more rapidly. Stress can also result in immune dysfunction and DNA damage all of which causes skim ageing. In conclusion, stress is bad for one’s skin.
When stress impacts the diet, this can easily lead to a number of problems with the skin.
The hormones that are released when the body becomes stressed often cause issues with the skin.
Scratching the skin when stressed can turn into a feedback loop of the scratching creating more stress.
“A number of studies have shown that increased stress levels can greatly exacerbate common skin problems.”
What are some of the ways that people can tell they are stressed and need to re-balance? Are they drained, or feeling tired, perhaps have a terrible headache? Some people get so stressed out they grind their teeth, and that can lead to even more problems. People can become emotional by being irritable or crying a lot. They can get panic attacks, avoid going out, becoming sick, and plain old eating too much trying to find comfort food.
Abnormal fatigue or headaches without some other clear cause are very often a sign of stress.
Being overly emotion, such as being easily angered or saddened, can be an indicator of one’s stress levels.
Significant changes in habits, such as diet, sexual desires, or social participation is also a key factor in stressed individuals.
“Stress for a short period of time isn’t a problem, but if left unchecked it can affect one’s life and one’s wellbeing significantly.”
Gua Sha is a new version of cupping. There are some things that experts want people to know. There are many people wondering what it is exactly. It has recently gained a lot of popularity on the internet. The pictures of the people that have used this show them with severe red marks on their backs. This has left many people wondering if the practice is safe or not. This practice is used in Ancient East medicine.
Gua Sha has recently become more mainstream, and it is a way of relieving skeletal, muscular pain.
It is when a blunt object basically scrapes at the particular area in pain to flush the area with fresh blood to relieve pain.
Some believe it to be risky because of the marks it can leave behind, and people who have serious illnesses such as Parkinson’s, or are on blood thinners shouldn’t have this Gua Sha done.
“The technique – which has been described as a more intense version of cupping – involves scraping the skin with a blunt-edge tool (usually when body oil is applied to reduce the friction).”
According to a recent Australian study, one single injection of stem cells could cure chronic back pain for as much as three years. This breakthrough could curb the opioid epidemic that is killing thousands annually in the US and UK. About half of the study’s subjects reported no back pain for two years after the stem cell injection and others remained pain free for three years. Researchers think the method is so effective because when injected, stem cells reinflate the vertebrae that have become dried and cracked over time.
Stem cells are extracted from donated marrow and then grown in laboratories in huge quantities.
The stem cells injected into a 100 person Melbourne test group reduced or eliminated back pain in about half the test subjects for two years, some for even three years.
President Trump was said to be preparing to declare the opioid crisis an emergency over concerns of the number of deaths related to use of the drug that doctors widely prescribe for pain management.
“A single injection of stem cells could relieve agonising back pain for up to three years and curb the opioid endemic that is spreading in the UK and killing thousands annually in the US, new research suggests.”
The prescription drug epidemic in the United States, driven by chronic back pain, could potentially be reined in with a breakthrough new stem cell treatment.
With about 28 million people in the US suffering from back pain, it is a common health issue and accounts for approximately half of all painkiller prescriptions.
This new stem cell treatment would offer an alternative to prescription painkillers such as oxycodone, hydrocodone or methdaone, the commonly prescribed opioids, which lead to dangerous addictions.
The US is experiencing an opioid epidemic with over 15,000 deadly overdoses in 2015.
There is a study happening in Australia where researchers injecting stem cells into the spine to reverse degenerative disc disease (one of the primary reasons for chronic back pain).
The treatment of using stem cells to reverse degenerative disc disease, doctors would not have to prescribe as many painkillers therefore reducing those dependent on opioids for pain relief.
“In the study, an injection of the cells helped around half of those treated to experience no back pain for two years.”
Testicular cancer is more common in western countries. Lower back pain can be a sign of testicular cancer. When the cancer spreads outside the organ is when a man will start to feel back pain. It’s also best to avoid muscle building supplements because they increase the risk for testicular cancer by 65%. Back pain shows up when the cancer is in an advanced state. Men should not ignore back pain and consider it a symptom of testicular cancer.
Most common signs of testicular cancer are swelling in the organ, redness, and occasional pain in its initial stages.
Lower back pain is one of the tell-tale symptoms of testicular pain.
In conclusion, there were some men that never experienced any severe swelling and pain in the testes but still experienced back pain.
“Around 1 percent of men between ages 15 to 35 can suffer from testicular cancer.”
Massages are all the rage – people can get them in so many places now a days. Ranging from a few minutes for people on the go, to 1.5 hours for people who have time to relax, there are many options to suit one’s health needs and budget. Massage can help with stress, pain, tension, and well being. One should research their massage therapist to make sure their certified/licensed and that they will meet one’s health and budget needs.
Massages aren’t as pricey as they once were. As they can be found in many places, such as malls, airports, etc.
a massage doesn’t have to last a long time to be rejuvenating. it can be as short as 5 min.
If one has certain medical conditions, experts feel that massage may not be beneficial for them.
“It is reported that massages effectively reduce stress, muscle pain and tension and help with these conditions: low back pain, fibromyalgia pain, tension headaches, rheumatoid arthritis pain, neck pain, high blood pressure.”
Comparing the usage of Chiropractic care to the more often prescribed medication relief for individuals with chronic back, and neck pain. The design of the article is to show the higher health benefits that come from utilizing Chiropractic care over other more commonly used forms of pain relief. Throughout the article there are references to studies showing the number of individuals who have favored Chiropractic care to both prescribed medications, and over the counter alternatives for pain relief.
In a recent survey it is clear that most Americans with pain would rather not use any medications to treat themselves.
For those people who are in pain they continue to use medicine even though their is an alternate solution available.
A chiropractor can give people a permanent solution to pain without any harmful side effects that come with the use of medicine.
“Gallup survey makes it clear: pain is a major issue for many people, and overwhelmingly, they would rather try nondrug pain-relief therapies such as chiropractic care versus pain-relieving medications.”
If anyone is feeling the symptoms of neck spasms which include: muscle aches, stiffness, headaches, nerve pain and a reduced range of motion, then they should know that doctors have many treatment options available to help with their pain. It is important to know what the cause of neck spasms is as it can help with the treatment and also help people to avoid getting them in the future. It is possible that people’s neck spasms are caused by simple things that they could easily change such as posture or drinking more water. People should see their doctor so they can make a proper diagnose because waiting too long to take care of this condition could lead to chronic pain.
Neck spasms are generally not caused by a serious health issue
Understanding the symptoms of neck spasms help to determine the cause of the spasms
If degenerative conditions are suspected in a person suffering neck spasms, further testing can determine true cause
“It is worth knowing that if one has experienced neck spasms in the past and then expose the neck to cold and damp weather, there is a chance that the neck spasm will return.”
Back aches can have symptoms such muscle spasms, pain that is worse after sitting, numbness such as sciatica. People can treat pain different ways, depending on the cause and length of pain. Acute pain usually needs anti inflammatory medicine, such as Advil, and physical therapy. It usually goes away in about 6-8 weeks. Sub-acute lower back pain takes longer. People might need an injection for this, an xray, and minimal procedures. Chronic back pain can end up with surgery.
Back pain can be felt in four ways – dull, stinging, spasms and tightness, pain that increases after sitting
Back pain is also described to physicians in terms of onset and duration.
Acute pain is sudden and short, subacute is mechanical in nature and lasts up to three months, chronic pain is severe and does not respond to treatments
“Low back pain may start suddenly, or it could start slowly — possibly coming and going — and gradually get worse over time.”
Lower back pain is the number one contributor to disability in America. Nearly all older adults show signs of disc degeneration. There are surgical and medical treatments for this but the results are not that great and have drawbacks such as addiction to drugs. There has been some advancements in stem cell research that may soon be available to the public. This is not a pain reliever but has the potential to actually fix the problem.
LBP occurs primarily due to aging and mechanical breakdown of tissues
Common medical treatments attempt to address the symptoms of back pain, but not the cause
Biotech companies are seeking to eliminate back pain without surgical treatment by using stem cell technology
“We believe it has the potential to offer pain relief and restored function to millions of patients suffering from the debilitating effects of lower back pain”
Spontaneous Electrical Activity (SEA) and dissipation of a pain mediating chemical found within the body are two of the most noticeable benefits of this new (but really old) pain relief tactic. Used to treat acute muscle pain, practitioners use bamboo to stimulate knotted muscles and given worried patients immediate relief from tennis elbow, tendonitis, fibromyalgia, and a host of other muscle-related ailments. Despite the ominous sounding name, and its perceived similarity to acupuncture, practitioners in the office are answering more and more questions to this remarkable option.
Trigger point dry needling is used to treat severe muscle knotting that has been resistant to other treatment methods. Patients claim tremendous results.
Trigger point dry needling causes spontaneous electrical activity in the muscle and releases Substance P, the pain causing chemical in that builds up in muscle knots
Trigger point dry needling originated in Asia, but is a separate treatment from acupuncture
“Utilizing stainless steel needles, the practitioner of TDN or trigger point dry needling, needles the musculature of the body in order to elicit several physiologic responses.”
Some people have found a cheaper alternative to expensive massages. People have started using different power tools such as a car buffer and modified jigsaw to massage muscles. Downside of this practice is that some experts think it is not as safe as a trained masseuse. Obviously a car buffer cannot feel anomalies in the muscle tissue. Some manufacturers of these tools have agreed that safety is a concern as this was not their intended use. However, to many it is a method they are not giving up soon.
Some trainers and coaches adapt power tools to massage sore and damaged muscles.
Car buffers and filed down jigsaws are among the tools that can be adapted to treat sore and aching muscles.
A representative from the power tool industry says power tools are not meant to be used in this manner, and those who adapt power tools agree that focusing on safety is key.
“If one enjoys a good massage, there’s another do-it-self option that’s hit the market.”
People’s neck pain could be giving them headaches. A recurrent headache can persist for many years. There are many causes behind it. Headaches that are caused by a neck joint disorder are one of the common types of headaches. The neck related headaches are usually only felt on one side of the head. It is always the same side, unlike a migraine, which on on both sides of the head. The symptoms of the different kinds of headaches can be very similar.
Try to cope with headaches that might be giving people some neck pain. Migraines and tension type headaches are fairly common for many people out there.
Come to understand why recurrent headaches can persist with people for years. Talk to a doctor with a specialty in the headaches that people tend to experience.
Neck pain itself may not go away for quite some time. That could give anyone headaches as they try to cope with the pain.
“Recurrent headache can persist for years and there are many causes. Tension-type headache, migraine, and headaches because of a neck joint disorder are three common types.”

Although common solutions and treatments to lymphedema have come to be known to be prescription medications or further invasive treatment, recent reports have emerged that claim this may not be the most beneficial means of treating it. Rather, it has been found that certain massage techniques can do wonders in not only alleviating the discomfort that comes with the ailment, but simultaneously help in reduce the excessive swelling that is known to come with the issues.
Use effective massage techniques to alleviate swelling whenever possible. Lymphedema is a new condition that is being studied from many perspectives by researchers.
Try a few simple massage techniques that can help researchers heal patients. Many have reported great progress when they try the massage techniques explained.
Alleviating swelling will make the site more comfortable and easier to manage for patients. They should prevent inflammation and scarring, which is supported by animal research.
“The T-cell inhibitor tacrolimus has shown an ability to prevent inflammation and scarring of the dermis in animal studies of lymphedema, but human research is needed.”
It turns out that 20 percent of people that have back and neck conditions are in the age group of 16-34. In India, the 16-34 age group make up this statistic. The treatment rate in women is much lower than men. 54 percent of the people that get treatment are men and 46 are women. The most common pain in people is lower back pain and herniated disc pain. Back and spine conditions are quite prevalent today.
Young people can have back and neck problems. The same thing can certainly be said about young athletes.
Complete recoveries can be difficult when one is looking at a long term back or neck problem. Surgery is often not the answer when it comes to a back issue.
Musical therapy can be soothing for people that are dealing with chronic neck pain. Music can help one gain a better perspective on how to deal with the pain.
“Back or neck pain should not be neglected. Early treatment can solve the pain and the root cause of the problem within a short span of time providing complete recovery.”
The Canadian Chiropractic Association found that 90% of Canadians suffer with pain. This 90% is musculoskeletal pain also called MSK. Many Canadians are taking opiod pain medications to manage the pain and many get addicted to opiods. Chiropractic treatments have been found to be very effective at treating MSK pain. Unfortunately not many people are using these treatments usually due to lack of money to pay for treatments. Also many especially men are not familiar with chiropractic treatments. In conclusion many with MSK pain should use chiropractic care either by itself or in addition with other treatments.
Canadians treating pain are not exploring non-pharmacological options to manage pain.
Alternatives like chiropractors exist but Canadians are challenged by financial hurdles and lack of doctor knowledge.
85 percent of Canadians using painkillers with a chiropractor said it reduced their need for the medication.
“Canadians are suffering from daily muscle and joint pain, many turning to potentially harmful painkillers as a first step to treating their discomfort.”
Nagging back pain is important to address whenever patients get a chance. Check in to the Vitamin D count for these patients over time. That makes it simple and straightforward to evaluate nagging back pain as it affects people. Talk to a doctor that specializes in lower back pain itself. They want to help people check the Vitamin D count as it applies to patients. Get a patient recommendation and treatment choice whenever it is offered.
Roughly 83% of patients experiencing back pain are associated with lower levels of Vitamin D.
Most problems associated with back pain or minor issues that tackled at the right time have good odds of curing easily.
Patients with failed spinal fusion were found to have Vitamin D deficiency and responded positive to supplements.
“Low vitamin D levels are widely known to harm bones, leading them to become thin, brittle, soft or misshapen.”
