A recent study shows that Yoga and Physical Therapy are having positive outcomes for patients who suffer from chronic lower-back pain. Boston University conducted a year long study and found that Yoga and Physical Therapy were a better alternative to prescription pain medicine. Yoga may also be a cheaper alternative for those patients who cannot afford physical therapy. This study hasn’t been researched enough with low-income, racial and socio-economic classes as well as those who have no health insurance. But, the study does show that the participants who attended Yoga and Physical Therapy the most times per week had less pain.
Key Takeaways:
- Yoga may be a better way to go to alleviate back pain, especially in lower income individuals who can not pay for Physical Therapy.
- Participating in an active program is better than just receiving information about what to do to help the lower back.
- Yoga and Physical Therapy, when continued, both are good for lower back pain and can reduce pain substantially.
“The year-long study, conducted at Boston University and published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, found that a structured yoga program may be an effective alternative treatment for low-back pain.”
