Pain is something that gets in the way of normal life. After getting test after test done the doctors recommended that the author ignore the pain and not think about it. The doctors believed that the pain he was feeling was simply a matter of perception. The author was skeptical at first but read a study showing that people can become sensitive to pain after certain injuries. This sensitivity can last a long time after the injury has healed. Sometimes pain is merely an interpretation by the brain.
