In a recent study, 27 teachers were examined across Florida who reported symptoms of depression due to teaching. Teachers that reported a higher frequency in depression symptoms had classrooms that were of lesser quality, resulting in lower performance gains from students, particularly in math. The study suggests that when a teacher is depressed, it makes it harder for the students to learn, which is why they get lower points. However when the children were placed in higher quality classrooms, their learning performance gained.
