The Pros & Cons of a Retractable Ottoman

Traditional ottoman
Traditional ottoman

One of the drawbacks of massage chairs, in general, is that they don’t look like recliners much at all. They are designed to be therapeutic devices and, with that, comes a styling that does not hide the fact that a chair is truly a therapeutic device! Some companies, like Human Touch, have gone to great design and engineering lengths to create chairs that look like recliners first, that have massage chair functions, second. Massage Chair and/or Recliner

HT-9500
HT-9500
HT-9500
HT-9500

More and more folks are asking about a massage chair that doesn’t look like a massage chair, but can double as a regular recliner. I think that as more shoppers come into the marketplace, there will be more of a relative demand for that type of massage chair. Aesthetics are important to people and making a massage chair fit in with existing decorum can be quite a challenge.

There is a trade-off when a massage chair chooses aesthetics over feature-set. Obviously, you can’t have a full-feature massage chair, with all the bells and whistles, and still have a chair that doesn’t resemble a massage chair at all. So, the trade off is aesthetics for features. The manufacturers are getting more and more clever in their ability to hide blatant massage chair features, but for a full service feature-set, you will most likely have to compromise on looks.

I thought that today I might discuss some massage chair options that would provide therapeutic benefit while at the same time providing some looks that don’t so blatantly scream “therapeutic massage chair” and can soothe the savage beast of your home or business decorator.  Continue reading “Massage Chair and/or Recliner”

Mail Bag – Inada Sogno Timer; Compact Chair; Intense Massage

emailEmail Question #1

Hi there. Is there any way to get around the built-in 15 minute timer on the Inada Sogno?

My Response #1

Thanks for your email. The sessions can last from 15-20 minutes in length depending on the body scan findings, but other than that you can’t adjust the session timer. The good thing with the Sogno, though, is when the program stops the chair will not come back up to the parked position but stay where you had it reclined. You just need to push the program button again and it will start up with you in the very same position. Continue reading “Mail Bag – Inada Sogno Timer; Compact Chair; Intense Massage”

Some Additional Insights on the ZeroG 4.0

A little over a year ago, I wrote a review of the ZeroG 4.0 massage chair from Human Touch’s new Immersion Seating line. We had just received the chair in our showroom and my review was based on the information gleaned over that short period of time. Now that I’ve had the chair for this long, I have a few thoughts and insights to share about it which may help you to decide if this chair is right for you. Human Touch Wins More ADEX Awards!

Adex award
Adex award

Each year the Design Journal conducts its annual Awards for Design Excellence competition, which recognizes superior  product designs of home furnishings internationally. Human Touch has won these awards before and this year they won 6 of the prestigious awards.

In the  massage chair industry, Human Touch is known for creating massage chairs that aesthetically look like regular chairs and recliners but have integrated massage function into the design. Most other massage chairs look exactly like…massage chairs. With the superior aesthetic design comes a  limitation in massage function in some instances (most notably the lack of airbag functionality), but the overall look is fabulous and makes it possible to integrate your Human Touch chair into almost any decorum. As long as I have been in this business it has always been so.  Continue reading “Human Touch Wins More ADEX Awards!”

Some more great questions from massage chair shoppers…and my responses:

QUESTION #1 – “Which chair is best for us?”
Good day…I’ve been reviewing your site for the last couple of weeks and have read many of the reviews and Dr. Weider’s articles. The problem, so many chairs, so many brands, so many features. I currently have 2 massage chairs: Fuji OX-575 and a Elite Optima. I have spend over $5000 for these chairs and I am not overly impressed. The Fuji has limited features and I don’t think it’s made anymore; the Elite is a little better, but sometimes it hurts me more than make me feel better. I need help in finding a chair I would be happy with. Going to your showroom in UT is not an option, so what is the best way to do so on-line? Some data: My wife and I are 62 years old; height 5’6″ (wife is 5’3″); weight 164 (wife 123); we particularly like upper shoulder/neck massage and middle of back (end of spine). Firmness should be adjustable since I like my massage a little harder than what the wife likes. Any recommendations to narrow down the search. In addition to giving a good massage, I am looking for reliability, maintainability, and future support in a chair. Thank you. Mail Bag – Which Chair Has All Of These Features?

Hi, Dr. Weidner

Here in NY there is a dearth of information about massage chairs, and almost no place to go and see and try out the various chairs, so I rely on your information.
I believe we are about ready to purchase a chair but I need your input on what kind. I know you maintain that Japanese made chairs are the best, so I think we do want a Japanese made chair. However we are not prepared to spend what an Inada costs, so we need something reasonably priced.

Besides price, quality, and reliability, here are things that (we think) are important to us:
massage by rollers as well as airbags
large number of airbags
zero gravity
arms, shoulders, legs, feet (and maybe head?) massaging as well as the trunk
a fair amount of programs and intensity settings
stretching??
a great warranty & service plan

Here are things that we don’t care about:
heat
music compatibility or lights or any fancy effects

We’ve been interested in a chair for several years so we don’t want to make a mistake when we finally buy one, which is why we need your guidance & service. If you don’t sell what we are looking for, then we would appreciate your recommendation and referral.
If the chair you suggest is due to go on sale for the next holiday, kindly let us know and we’ll wait it out a bit longer.
Thanks very much for your time – Gail Continue reading “Mail Bag – Which Chair Has All Of These Features?”

Mail Bag! Inada Sogno for 6’6″ Customer? Chair for $2500 Budget?

I get so many wonderful emails from massage chair shoppers each week. I try to save those that bring something new to the knowledge base and then post them, and my answers, to this blog. A Chair for a 4’10” Petite Woman?

I often have calls and inquiries about which chairs would be best suited for tall folks, but once in a while I get an email like this one asking for chair suggestions for someone quite short.

Hi Dr Weidner, I found your site while researching for a massage chair for my mom. Your website and reviews are truly great, the best I could find on google. My mom is very petite, only 4’10” tall. She has lower back pain close to the spine. I really want to get her a massage chair to alleviate her pains. I’m wondering which models would fit her better? I’ve seen some good reviews about osaki models, would osaki 7200h fit her size? I also saw a human touch model in costco, that chair looks pretty small but doesn’t have many fancy functionalities that Osaki does. Could you please give some suggestions on which brand/model would work better for her case? I’d really appreciate it. Thanks, Liang Continue reading “A Chair for a 4’10” Petite Woman?”

Massage Chairs, Duck Dynasty, and More…!

Here is the latest news and notes of the massage chair industry…

1. Inada and Human Touch are both offering their extended 5 year warranties free through Father’s Day. Inada is offering it on all of their models and Human Touch is offering it on their ZeroG 4.0 model. You must order your chair before Father’s Day to qualify for the free warranty upgrade. HT-7450 vs. ZeroG 4.0

ZeroG 4.0

A customer of mine asked me to compare the HT-7450 massage chair to the new ZeroG 4.0, both from Human Touch. Here is the email exchange, including a bullet point comparison of the two chairs, both of which I happen to have in my showroom.

Dear Dr. Weidner

I spoke with you a couple months back about the Inada series chairs but I cannot afford one at this time. I’m debating between your HT-7450 and Zero G 4.0 chair. The price is fairly similar for both models and I’m not sure which one I should purchase. I’ve read the technical specs of each, but they are of limited assistance since I cannot sit in the chairs and try them out. Can you give me the pros and cons of each?

Thanks much for your help, I appreciate it!

The ZeroG 4.0 Review!

We’ve had the ZeroG 4.0 in our showroom for a couple of months now and thought I’d share a few thoughts about the chair with you now that I am a little more familiar with it.

I have really come to like this chair. It is not a bells and whistles type chair, in other words it is not full of airbags in various and sundry places like a lot of the other chinese-made chairs have. It is all about rollers and paddles and aesthetics, which I will get into in a moment.

Here are some of my impressions: Continue reading “The ZeroG 4.0 Review!”

A Good Massage Chair For A Dentist?

Inada Sogno

Here is an email I recently received from a dentist who is complaining of upper back, neck, and shoulder pain. He wants to know what chairs might work for him. This information could apply to anyone who suffers from these symptoms…

I am a dentist in Colorado and I have been looking into a massage chair due to some work related back, neck and shoulder pain. The Inada really looks to be the rolls royce of chairs but I want to know if any of the other chairs can do the same things. 8K is alot of money but if there truly is that much of a difference I would like to know. If you think the Osaka or Infinity will help me out in similar fashion I would like your opinion. Thanks. Ken Continue reading “A Good Massage Chair For A Dentist?”

What To Consider For A Chair In A Commercial Setting?

Some people want to get a massage chair or two (or more) for a commercial setting, i.e. a dentist office, a spa, or a chiropractic office. I have plenty of calls for situations like this. The typical questions involve what chair or chairs would be optimal for that type of a setting and what factors should be considered when making that decision. I answered one such question in an email from a fellow named George who is looking for some chairs for a dental office and thought I’d share my response with you here. News and Notes – 01/28/13

Here are some things of interest in the massage chair world…

ZeroG 4.0

1. We have the ZeroG 4.0 and the Panasonic MA70 in our showroom now. These are two chairs I’ve wanted to have in the showroom for a long time and now we have made the room and budget for them. Both great chairs. I will write a brief prelim review of both chairs in the weeks to come. Videos will also be coming soon for both models.

2. We added the 6 Cozzia massage chairs to our website. I still don’t have the details but the images and pricing is up. The Cozzia line is another Chinese-made line with a very low price point. It serves a niche in the industry not well served by other lines…most of their chairs are under $2000 making massage chairs very affordable for pretty much anyone. With PayPal’s “Bill Me Later” financing program along with our GE Capital financing, almost anyone can get a massage chair in their home or business.

I don’t have a Cozzia chair in my showroom yet, but hopefully will have one soon to write about and make videos about. I will be meeting with Cozzia VP, Greg Hunsucker, on Wednesday at the Las Vegas Furniture Market. I will be interviewing him about the chairs and the company. I am looking forward to becoming more familiar with this brand and learning more about how they came into existence. Continue reading “News and Notes – 01/28/13”

New Immersion Seating From Human Touch – My First Impressions

Last year (2012), Human Touch came out with their new Immersion Seating line of massage chairs. When I first saw them I was impressed with their outward appearance. Human Touch has always been true to the idea of creating chairs that didn’t look like massage chairs, but a piece of furniture that could fit in any room and with any decorum.

ZeroG 4.0

Well, they didn’t deviate from that MO with the new Immersion chairs. They have a contemporary look but not with the overt massage chair features that turn so many people off with traditional massage chairs.

The came out with three models, the lower-priced WholeBody 2.0, the mid-range ZeroG 2.0, and the top of the line ZeroG 4.0. You can check out our massage chair comparison chart to see the specific differences between the chairs, but I will focus a bit of my discussion today on the two ZeroG models.

I flew down to Southern California last month to visit Human Touch, one of my objectives being to try out the ZeroG 4.0 for the first time. I was not disappointed! Here are some of my first impressions: Continue reading “New Immersion Seating From Human Touch – My First Impressions”

My Trip to Human Touch Headquarters and Inada’s Warehouse!

I went to Southern California last week to visit the Human Touch headquarters in Long  Beach, California (11/28/12) and Inada’s warehouse in Ontario, California (11/29/12) where Inada has all their inventory and from where their chairs are shipped.

Domenic

But, before I went to Human Touch, I had breakfast with my Southern California delivery guy, Domenic. He has been delivering and setting up chairs in Southern California for me for years but this was the first time we’d actually met in person. It was great to visit with him at Denny’s in Long Beach (Lumberjack Slam…mmmmmm!).

After breakfast, I drove promptly over to Human Touch on Walnut Avenue and was greeted by a welcome sign and by Michael Hamm, Director of Commercial Accounts. Michael was so kind and warm towards me and my visit. He accompanied me the whole morning as they had set up a tour for me throughout the offices. It was so wonderfully enlightening to see how things worked there and to meet the brains behind the product that we know as Human Touch massage chairs. Post-Black Friday/Cyber Monday Stock Status!

Well, it was a very busy weekend in the massage chair industry, as it is in most retail businesses. I thought a stock update would be helpful for you this morning so you know what is available as of today:

1. Human Touch – HT-9500 (espresso color) is back ordered until the first week of December; ZeroG 4.0 (espresso color) is back ordered until late December; the ZeroG 4.0 in black is in stock but under heavy inventory pressure and will be restocked in late December. It could be out of stock long before then.

2. Inada – the red Inada Sogno is back ordered until later this week; there is about 1 week of inventory left of the Inada Sogno in creme and the black leather Sogno. So, if you want those colors order NOW. All other models and colors are shipping without delay.

3. Infinite Therapeutics – stock is good on all chair models and colors for the time being. The new IT-8100 has not arrived yet for the first shipments, although that model is available for purchase. It should be here this week.

4. Osaki – The brown and ivory OS-7075R’s are back-ordered until mid-December; the black OS-7075R is back-ordered until December 6; the OS-3000 in black and brown is out of stock, but there is no date for a new shipment; all OS-1000 colors are out of stock until the end of the first week of December;  every other model is in good stock.

5. Panasonic – all available models are in stock, with some inventory pressure.

6. Omega – all chairs are in stock.

Considering that we just got through the busiest shopping weekend of the year, stock is not too bad. But, having said that, I will also say that it will change with each succeeding day as we march toward the Christmas cut-off. I feel pretty secure telling you that if you have your orders in by Monday, December 17th, there is a fabulous chance that your chair will get to you by the 24th. Of course, if you order white glove delivery or if you live in a remote place that may not be the case. But, call to be sure if you are concerned at all.

Massage Chair News and Updates!

The Latest & Greatest Massage Chair News!

I hope you are enjoying this blog. I put an awful lot of time and attention into it, primarily for your benefit. It is my desire that massage chairs are in every home and business, but also I want every massage chair shopper to have the most information at their fingertips so that the decision to get a massage chair is supported by data and experience.

If you enjoy these massage chair updates, I would encourage you to subscribe to my YouTube channel. Every two weeks I put out a 10 minute or so video where I discuss in greater detail what is going on in the massage chair industry and in our store. We get a lot of views from folks just like you who want to know the latest and greatest. I will be putting out another one this Monday. Here is the channel address: http://www.youtube.com/massagechairrelief/

So, here is the latest I have for you:

1. The Sanyo 8700 massage chair has been discontinued. We learned of that earlier this week and I have already had that model removed from our site. Sanyo is going through some changes with their massage chair line…and it is something that doesn’t really surprise me. Since the merging of Panasonic and Sanyo a couple of years ago, I have been expecting some changes to the massage chair lines.

2. In the last Massage Chair Industry Update video, I mention that all the Panasonic massage chairs are now being manufactured in China. Even the Panasonic 30007 and ma70, which were previously manufactured in Japan, are now being made in China, too. I received a call from my Panasonic rep this week to tell me that although the Panasonic 30007 massage chair is now being created in China, the existing stock, of which there is plenty of chairs, is still all Japanese-made.

Panasonic 30007 Massage Chair
Panasonic 30007 Massage Chair

So, if you want a Japanese-made chair at a very, very good price, get a Panasonic 30007 massage chair before the current stock is all gone. When that happens, the 30007 will be a Chinese-made chair.

3. Human ‘Touch has a new line of massage chairs, called the Immersion chairs. In a nutshell, these are zero gravity chairs in a very nice looking chair design. Human Touch is notorious for making very nice, aesthetically pleasing massage chairs. These are no different. We should have these chairs up soon on the site. The models they are offering are:

a.) ZeroG 2.0 – this chair will be available next month and retails for $2499. It will come in black and espresso colors.

b.) ZeroG 4.0 – this chair will be available in the fall of 2012. It will retail for $3299 and comes in the following colors: black, espresso, and ivory.

c.) WholeBody 2.0 – this massage chair is currently available and retails for $1799. It comes in a black PU/Sofsuede combo upholstery.

I should have these chairs up on the website within a week or so.

4. We completed filming our assembly video for the new Osaki 7000 massage chair. This is a very popular massage chair so far but is a bit of a “bear” for assembly. This video will help with that. I should have it posted to our YouTube channel early next week, if not by the end of this weekend.

"I've got a good deal on a Sogno!"

5. Inada is back ordered on the following models: Dark brown Sogno (until April 16), chocolate Sogno (April 30), black leather Sogno (April 16).

(By the way, here is a little secret! Call me at 801-651-2026 if you want a really good deal on a 2 month old perfect creme Inada  Sogno.)

Well, that should just about do it for today. Stay tuned for my Massage Chair Industry Update video this Monday.

Massage Chair Industry Update 02/27/12 – 03/11/12

Massage Chair Industry Update Video

I recorded another massage chair industry update earlier this week and thought I’d share it here on our blog. I covered some pretty interesting stuff, from Panasonic’s massage chair manufacturing being moved completely to China to the possibility of the Sanyo massage chair line being discontinued.

I also go over some back order updates, particularly with regards to the Inada Sogno and the Osaki 7000, currently two of our most popular massage chairs.

I also mention that we have a 1 month old Inada  Sogno with a full 5 year head-to-toe in-home warranty for sale for only $6999. If you are interested in this chair, please give me a call at 801-651-2026 and I’ll get you hooked up with it right away. Pristine condition, hardly used. A client purchased it but his wife didn’t like it much. So, I have it back in my showroom waiting for a nice home to massage folks in.

ZeroG 2.0 massage chair
ZeroG 2.0 massage chair

I also discuss briefly the new Infinite Therapeutic massage chair line that we will be carrying here in the very near future. They have a couple of models that you will find interesting. One is all leather and has an inversion feature. The other is an under-$2k chair that is chinese-made with a nice set of features.

Human Touch came out with a new Immersion line of massage chairs. I talk about them a little bit. We will be carrying them on our site once new images of the products are out. I have included a photo here of one of the new models.

Here is the video for your enjoyment and information:

I hope you enjoyed this video and gleaned something from it.
