Neck pain is usually caused by three main conditions, none of which are serious. Pain can be a result of anything from sleeping in an awkward position to stress, and it is common for symptoms to subside within a few days.
Sleeping in an awkward position can cause Acute Torticollis which can cause the muscles in the neck to stiffen on one side and can cause pain lasting from 24 hours to up to a week.
Neck pain can also be attributed to a type of arthritis called Cervical Spondylosis , which can cause the nerves to become trapped and can cause pain in the neck and loss of feeling in the limbs and extremities, it is most often found in older people.
Whiplash is another common cause of neck pain and is due to sudden, violent movement in the neck.
