Back in December, I wrote an article discussing the logistics backlog at the Port of Long Beach. You can read that article here, if you so desire:

Well, this morning we received a satellite image of the Port of Long Beach showing graphically how backed up it really is. The green dots represent the GPS tracking of incoming ships with container loads of product from China. If you look closely, you can see the line-up of the ships that are already in the port. The rest of them are still floating off-shore in the Pacific Ocean, patiently waiting to get into the port.

This week, you may have also heard about the ship blocking the Suez Canal in Egypt. Though I'm sure it is not affecting massage chair shipments to the USA, it is still affecting logistics and commerce, as each hour that the ship is stuck, $400 million of trade is being held up. When it rains, it pours! We can't blame Covid for this one, but it is yet another hiccup in the logistics chain. Below is a satellite image of the stuck freightliner.

It is amazing to me 1.) how much we take our normal day-to-day logistics for granted, 2.) how easily it can all be disrupted and affect so many, if not all, of our lives, and 3.) how an event can irrationally affect the psyche of the consumer. Remember the toilet paper frenzy when Covid first shut things down here in the USA last March? I couldn't believe how hard it was to get toilet paper! And Covid doesn't even affect gastro-intestinal system!
