Panasonic MA73Alan: Hi, I’m Dr. Alan Weidner from ‘Massage-Chair-Relief.com’ and today we’re going to talk about the Panasonic MA73, and a feature that this chair has that a lot of people are looking for in a massage chair. A common question I get from people is ‘Are there any chairs that look like normal recliners, or can work, can double as a normal recliner?’ So, A. it doesn’t look like a super funky looking massage chair, and B. if I just want to sit in it, as a regular chair, and watch TV, without the rollers on, or without the massage chair working, can I sit in it, and use it as a regular recliner? Well, Panasonic has answered that, not only with the MA70, which I’ve done a video about this in the past, but now with the new Panasonic MA73, it does this same thing, and let me show you those points that’ll allow you to use this chair as a regular recliner. First of all, you’ll notice that the armrests are not, they’re not overtly, obviously armrests, the armrests are arm massaging mechanisms. You can raise the armrests, slide your arms inside – and I’ll show you that by sitting in it – raise the armrests, and just slide your arms inside the armrests like that, that’s how you use it as a regular massage chair. You can bring the armrests down, and just use it as a regular recliner, with regular armrests, very convenient.

Alan: Some of the other chairs, they’ve got slots that you put your arms in, or other things that you got to put your arms in, with larger armrests, on the side, chairs like the iRobotics here, from Luraco, or like the Inada DreamWave, or like the Infinity 8500, or the Osaki Dreamer. There’s a lot of chairs that have that, but this one makes it easy, you just got lower armrests, you can put your arms on top of there if you’re not using it as a regular massage chair. Another thing that’s kind of cool about this chair, is you can – you’ve got this neck pillow here that you can use as a regular pillow, but you can also flop the big back pad, up and over the back of the chair – or from the back of the chair, and flop it over the front. Now, what’s the big deal about this back pad? You’ll notice there’s lumbar support here, and there’s pillow support in the mid back, and there’s pillow support in the neck. So, this will – one of the greatest beefs about sitting in a massage chair, without using it as a massage chair, is that you’ve got this huge cavity down here, and there’s no support for the lumbar spine – and a lot of people need support for their low back, they’ve got low back pain, and when you sit in a chair, you want good lumbar support. Well, you can’t get that in a massage chair, very few chairs have any kind of mechanism to give you that support. The only other chair that comes to my mind is the Human Touch HT-9500, which has a separate pillow, that you can take and stick down in your low back, when you’re not using it as a regular massage chair. Well, this chair has this flap over pillow, that’s zipped up at the top, and I just always keep it flipped back, but I bring it up and over when we just want to show a customer how they can use it as a regular chair. So, I sit back on this chair, and now, it feels like a regular recliner, I’ve got support in my lumbar spine, I can feel it, I can feel my lumbar spine supported, I don’t feel like I’m caving in like this, and I’ve got a mid back support, and now I’ve also got the neck support.

Alan: If you combine this pad with the pillow that I showed you before underneath, now I’ve got a good cervical support, and of course, I can recline the chair, and put it in any position I want, but now I’ve got a very comfortable seating situation for my back, and a little bit more ergonomically correct, with the lumbar support, and the thoracic, and cervical support, which is mid back, and neck. Now, the last thing about this chair that makes it kind of cool, as far as a regular recliner, is the ottoman. You see this little arrow here, on this little lever? You lift that lever up, and you can rotate the ottoman under. So, now, you’ve got a chair that looks like a regular recliner, and the calf wells, and foot wells are hidden, because isn’t it really the calf-and-foot wells that make these chairs look so funky as massage chairs, and if you want to hide those, you can do it with the Panasonic, very nice feature. And then of course, when you’re done, or you want to use it a massage chair, you just lift that lever, rotate the ottoman back under, and presto, you’ve got foot-and-calf massage airbags again. So, those are the features of the Panasonic MA73 that you can use as a regular recliner, and not just as a massage chair. This is a big selling point for the Panasonic, the only other chairs that have some kind of – that make these like, aesthetically appealing looking chairs, and make them look like regular recliners – are the Human Touch chairs, like the 7120, or the 7450, or the Bali, or the ZeroG chairs.

Alan: And also the Osaki Intelligent is a chair that folds out – has a fold-out ottoman, has armrests that are hidden inside – or arm airbag mechanisms that are hidden inside the armrests, and that’s pretty much it. Most of the other chairs look like massage chairs. So, these are – this is a really nice feature about the Panasonic MA73 – very clever design, and very clever engineering.
