Alan: Hi, I’m Dr. Alan Weidner from ‘Massage-Chair-Relief.com‘ and today we’re going to talk about the hip, or seat, airbag inflation mechanism of the Osaki OS-7000 massage chair. Airbags in the seat in the past on most massage chairs have either been nonexistent or fairly rudimentary, and nowadays you’re seeing a more sophisticated airbag setup on the seat. You’re finding airbags that inflate together and, you know, alternately, and it’s a very, very effective feature to have because it works the glutes, it works the piriformis muscle to some degree, and it gets rotation and motion in to the hip and pelvis, which is a very tough area to move when you’re sitting on a massage chair, not moving anything else. So, today we’re going to show you how this works, it’s quite simple.

Alan: You open up the lid, or the cover, of the remote, you – I’m going to take this off ‘Pause’ because we’ve got it on hold – and you just push the ‘Hip’ button, and then you will begin to see the airbags inflate here on the hip, and you can see they’re inflating on both sides. Now, you’re going to be sitting on this, so the weight of the body will not allow it to, you know, inflate exactly the way it is like this, but you’re getting the idea. There’s an inflation here that kind of, goes up the center of your buttock. You’ve got the airbags on the side, and then once you’re – I don’t know if we’re going to have the time here to see it – but the other thing that you’re going to see is that, right now they’re inflating concurrently. But what can happen is they will begin – OK, now we see that – now you see that it’s kind of inflating alternately. So, this side’s up, now this side’s coming up, then this side retracts a bit and deflates, now this one’s inflating, and this one deflates. What’s cool about this – it looks very, very simple, it doesn’t look like doing much – but when you’re sitting on here as a body, your hip, your pelvis and hip are being rotated from side to side, and that is a wonderful feature to have.

Alan: I mean, most chairs have rollers that go up and down your back, and they just push your back forward and back, but now we’re getting some rotation motion in the hips and in the pelvis, which also affects the low back. So, this is a really neat feature, I really like that, and most chairs are coming around to that kind of a technology nowadays, but the seat feature is fantastic. And some people that have sciatica will benefit from this, some people that have glute tenderness will benefit from this, some people that have hamstring-insertion-point pain and tenderness may benefit from this as well. So, it’s a pretty cool feature, very simple, but it’s a good use of airbags for the low back.
