OS-3D Pro Dreamer vs. OS-3D Pro Cyber (REVISITED)

Cyber & Dreamer

Cyber & Dreamer

I recently wrote a 2-part comparative review of the Osaki OS-3D Pro Cyber and OS-3D Pro Dreamer, which I consider to be “sister chairs.” In that review, it appears that I give the Cyber a slight nod over the Dreamer. However, we are selling more Dreamer’s than we are Cyber’s, to this point…especially to folks who are visiting our showroom.

A customer recently called me to ask me why I thought that the Dreamer is outselling the Cyber, even though the Cyber is a less expensive chair. Great question. Based on my experience with both chairs in my showroom, along with feedback from owners of these chairs, here are the primary reasons that the Dreamer is outselling the Cyber:

1. Warranty
The OS-3D Pro Dreamer is the only Osaki chair that comes with a 2 year parts and labor warranty, with 2 more years of parts only, as the standard warranty. The Cyber, as with all of the other Osaki chairs, comes with the more typical 1 year parts and labor warranty with a second year of parts only. Warranty on a massage chair is a big deal…so the better the warranty, the more affinity buyers have for the chair.

2. Dreamer fits shorter and taller folks better
The OS-3D Pro Cyber lists the minimum height recommendation as 5’5″ and the max. at 6’4″. Shorter folks (below 5’5″) tend to feel that the chair doesn’t fit them all that well. The waist airbags are the biggest culprits for this. When you sit in the chair the waist airbags inflate against each side of your lumber spine (low back). The problem with the Cyber is that for short folks, when the waist airbags inflate, they hit the back of the arms while the arms are being massaged by their own airbags. It feels a little uncomfortable.

cyber shoulder airbags

Cyber Shoulder Airbags

Also, with a shorter torso, the shoulder airbags tend to slide off the top of the shoulders and clip the bottom of the face and jaw. You can see how the lady in the picture to the left, who is only 5’0″ tall, has the shoulder airbags approximating her ears instead of her shoulders. We’ve seen this in other massage chairs as well…so nothing new. But, it is a nuisance for the shorter user. I will mention, however, that we had a review posted on the website yesterday by one of our Cyber customers, who’s wife is only 5’0″ tall. He mentions in his review that the chair fits her just fine. So, it may not be as big as an issue as I have made it out to be.

Some folks who are torso-long and legs-short may not find this shoulder and/or waist airbag thing such a big issue. For example, I am about 5’9″ (I used to be 5’10” I might add!!), but have shorter legs and a longer torso. I have friends of the same relative height who have belly buttons close to their chin but legs that won’t quit. So, although we are the same height, we might both fit differently in a massage chair.

cyber dome

Cyber height restriction

Regarding the maximum height, the Cyber fits someone 6’4″, while the Dreamer fits someone 6’5″. You can’t fake it on either one, because of the hard dome that covers the top of the chair. The picture to the left is of a fellow who is 6’4″ tall and there is not enough room between the top of his head and the dome for anyone taller to fit in there. Some chairs may say they fit someone who is 6’4″, like the Inada Sogno, but the chair has no physical cap to the chair so someone who is 6’8″ can sit in it and still get a decent massage, except for maybe the neck. However, with these two chairs, the hard dome restricts height quite blatantly.

3. Shoulder Airbag Inflation Intensity
The shoulder airbags of the Cyber also cause some grief for some customers when they fully inflate. They are smaller than the Dreamer’s shoulder airbags (from top to bottom) and inflate to the front and, for some, to the top of the shoulders. The Dreamer’s airbags inflate to the outside of the shoulders.

The shoulder airbags of the Cyber, when inflated, can feel very intense and quite uncomfortable, especially for a shorter, broader-chested person.

4. Broad Chest/Shoulders
Both chairs have a hard stop shoulder housing that will restrict a broad-chested person, particularly for males. However, the housing of the Cyber is more restrictive than that of the Dreamer. The distance between the left and right housing on the Cyber is narrower than the Dreamer. This can prove to be a bit uncomfortable for a person with broad shoulders/chest. Combine that with the intense shoulder airbag inflation I discussed in point #3, and you have a pretty tight situation for someone like Arnold Schwarzenegger.

5. Stretch program
The stretch of the Cyber is different…just different. Most chair, including the Dreamer, have a stretch program that includes a series of chair back inclines and reclines coupled with an ottoman that moves up and down. The Cyber kinda does that too, but it’s focus is on the airbags grabbing the arms when the chair back reclines. It feels more like the arms are getting pulled out longer rather than the back getting worked on. It’s hard to describe, but it does feel very different from the typical stretch programs of other massage chairs. It may be just the stretch program for you, but for most folks the stretch program of the Dreamer is preferred.

That’s about all I can think of right now. If I think of anything else later, I’ll update you. But, this should give you a pretty good idea why the Dreamer is more popular than the Cyber at Massage  Chair  Relief.
